  1. The only thing good about "Friday" is that it is clearly destined to be parodied into "Pi Day"
  2. Yeah, that's pretty much it. You can't just "give" the house to the bank and expect to get any of your principal back. The bank doesn't actually want your house - they want your payments.
  3. Fleek sounds like a subspecies of leech. Bae just makes me think of Neal/Baelfire on Once Upon A Time.
  4. Eeuuugh. It's probably a combination of both.
  5. There is a thread that tracks them, yes, but I don't remember where it's hiding. I think it's been linked from this thread multiple times, though, so it's in here somewhere. And yes, the dots are based on post count.
  6. They don't degrade while they are in the coppermind, no. They DO degrade when someone takes the memory out and uses it, then puts it back.
  7. They do, but it's not a time function - it's an access function. The more times you access the memory and put it back, the more it degrades. Perhaps a diminishing return on those "minutes of experience" being redone over and over?
  8. I've wondered that myself, up until the point where I realized that I probably don't actually want to know the answer.
  9. Morzathoth has it right - the first few are pretty formulaic, fun little romps. They aren't bad, but aren't hugely amazing. But as you progress into the series, you see Butcher's writing really start to mature, and a lot of the pieces that he sets into place early on start making more sense. By the time you get to 5 or 6, things start getting really good. When you hit the double digits, it's awesome and you can't stand the wait for more.
  10. Come on! There must be more people out there with entertaining anecdotes to tell! Very well, in an attempt to tease out the shy ones, I shall tell another: Once upon a time, I went to Dragon*Con. I don't go anymore because it's gotten too big for me to handle, but it is one of the greatest gathering of nerds in the States. So, on this particular day, I needed to use the restroom. Yeah, I know, but it's a fact of life. So I walked into one of the public restrooms, very preoccupied with how on earth I was going to manage this in full skirts and a corset. (Thank goodness there weren't any hoops involved.) There was a woman leaving as I entered, and I gave her a polite nod and a smile (like you do) as we passed each other. Now, with my brainspace half-taken up by preparing for some difficult mechanics, I was at first only vaguely aware of the recognition circuit that had been tripped. "Huh," I thought. "Wait, she looked familiar; what cosplay was that?" And then the rest of my brain caught up to current events and said, "That wasn't a cosplay, you idiot. That was Felicia Day." And that's how I almost met a famous person.
  11. I do use Chrome for some things. But the shortcut links to my drafts are on Firefox...
  12. Hmm... *runs to an online character counter to check a chapter* Yep! Chapters of Swift as Steel should work without having to be split. Now if I could just get Firefox to stop crashing on Google Docs...
  13. Chalk another one up to shameless self-promotion.
  14. Yeah, it's the names of the actors who play Charles Xavier in the various X-Men films.
  15. Cold Days is the big reveal of stuff. Skin Game is...well...it's a book number divisible by five. Someone's due to show up and play.
  16. Sneaking out and trolling the Muggles? Bwee-hee! You have caught up! And the camera has panned back and now you know just how far in over his head Harry really is! Not offhand. The only thread I know of where anything's hit it is the Featured Members thread. Silverblade kept adding the new profiles to the second post, and it eventually overflowed and he had to move them to make room for more.
  17. Colossus says, "We're taking you to the Professor." Deadpool responds with, "Which one? McAvoy or Stewart? All these alternate timelines get so confusing..." Deadpool has no respect for the fourth wall.
  18. The Sumerians were weird. And...well, maybe the Scadrians are, too. It just seems odd to me, but I'll admit that's an entirely subjective thing on my part. So it might just be me. Of course, they also use the same symbols for both numbers *and* letters, because that's not confusing at all.
  19. I bet your realtor knows what's going on. There's got to be something; the housing market is hot, so there must be something that's putting people off. (Though if I had to hazard a guess, the lack of a central air conditioning system might be the problem.)
  20. So, I just worked out today for the first time in about a year. I've edged up to 180 lbs, and that's just...too much. It's time to start getting serious about getting into shape, and that means exercising and starting to watch what I eat. So I've created an account on MyFitnessPal to track my calorie intake and fitness regimen. My main goal is to get back down to where I was when I got married 5 years ago, which was 155. If I can edge down to 145, all the better, but since I plan on putting on muscle as well as burning off fat, 145 might be a bit too skinny. I dunno. We'll see.
  21. That house really has been on the market for a while. Is the housing market in Tucson just that terrible? Or is there something weird about the place that's putting off buyers?
  22. I actually find it doubtful that Scadrial uses a base 16 numbering system. If you're thinking that they're basing it off of the Allomantic metals, well, remember that in the Final Empire they only had 10 metals on the chart. So if the numbering system was based off of Allomancy, it would've been base 10 anyway. Incidentally, humans tend to use a base 10 numbering system because that's how many fingers we have on our hands. The earliest people learned to count on their hands. There's your useless trivia for the day.
  23. Hey, Firefox? If you could stop crashing while I'm working in Google Docs, that's be great. I'm trying to revise a novel here, mmkay?

Whenever that happens to me, part of me wonders if my computer secretly hates what I'm writing and doesn't want me to finish.

In this case, I think my computer secretly hates Firefox. It crashes on pretty much any and all videos, which is annoying. I don't know why.

  24. Indeed. Stick is not a shiv. Stick is a Stick, and will always be a Stick.
