This is why I do things like name a flash drive "Coppermind" as a form of wish-fulfillment. Also, I'm not sure whether I'd prefer to be right originally or not... I'd already rearranged how I think Nicrosil works. As an additional point in Nicrosil's favor, there's no reason that it would burn itself away, so it would probably last at least as long as something like Pewter or Steel in a fight.

Ah... That's actually pretty cool, and more useful than I had thought. I'm not sure if you're entirely right about the results of Dunkum's scenario, though. I think that unless Eva was actually Pushing on something, she'd use up the Steel quickly to no effect (but she'll see the lines briefly) while she moves very quickly.

To OP: when I brought up the ability of Nicrobursts to strategically affect the metals of allomancers and compounders for combat purposes, I assumed it worked the same way as Duralumin, so the person would have to be burning the metal. Also, Duralumin seems to take about a second to burn away a small amount of metal, but it's possible (and I'm shooting from the hip here) that Duralumin actually tends to cause more volatility in its effect on metal use because it affects itself as well. Anyway, it would take a second or so at least for Nicrosil to burn away someone's metal reserves, but they wouldn't have a choice once it started*. As for Chromium, Aluminum seems to be instantaneous (though is likely just incredibly quick) and I agree that it would probably affect all her metals in her stomach, but I don't know about the earrings. To Dunkum: If I remember correctly from a bit of AoL from Miles' perspective, the metals feel like different reserves. Also, I remember reading somewhere (and I'm not meticulous enough to go find it unless you ask me to) that once a piece of metal is a metalmind, it is charged Feruchemically and can only be used for Compounding. I don't recall whether Vin is able to burn that bit of metal Sazed gave her at one point, though (Allomantically, that is; the point of the scene is that she couldn't access it Feruchemically). So, assuming that Nicrosil works as I think it does (Duralumin on someone else), JF would cause Eva to have a huge boost in her speed for a short amount of time but would not cause a steelpush.

Well, likely a Glutton (assuming you mean a Bendalloy twinborn) would only compound in order to store immediately back into a metalmind, and they'd likely have a main metalmind (i.e. a bracer) which would never be ingested and secondary metalminds (i.e. rings) which would be filled with some of the nutrition from the bracer and ingested to compound back into the main metalmind. Now, a DUMB Glutton may have issues...

Storing weight doesn't actually increase your spiritual connection to the ground (as remarked upon by Wax in AoL), so you'd need an alternate way to deorbit. Otherwise, though... Reentry may be possible. After all, Miles can survive some crazy things in AoL just by tapping health (which was compounded, but if you have a ridiculous amount of stored health, it's not much different*) and there were accounts in Mistborn of TLR walking out of a burning inn and regrowing his body from what was basically a skeleton. So it may be possible with just health, breath, and wakefulness. Also, you needn't bother with the strength at the end if you adjust your trajectory by moving while falling and gliding in to a nice stop (while mostly weightless). Of course, you also have to consider just how long this process would take while constantly tapping/filling various metalminds to exorbitant degrees. It may not even be possible without being a Fullborn (Mistborn & Feruchemist) and compounding. But yeah. Cool ideas. *I think.

I had picked Brass/Zinc, but Kobold's terrifying time-journalist idea made me change my vote.

It was close for me between Soulburst and Deader (see previous post for some reasoning behind the latter), but I chose Soulburst, mostly because strategically causing enemy Mistings to use up all their metals in an ultra-burst could be incredibly helpful. Even if it's not possible to do it at range, you can cause a Coinshot to use up all their Steel before they can actually push anything (after all, they have to burn steel to see the lines). The effects become even more Fun (in the Dwarf Fortress sense and otherwise) when you use it on other Compounders. Imagine managing to affect a Swift with this while they're tapping- you now have an opponent WAY over there who can no longer move quickly at a whim and also might have run into something while they couldn't control their speed. Also, (I think) once a Soulburst gets going with an Investituremind, they don't really need any more Nicrosil if they're careful with it, so it's incredibly low cost. So, yeah. Soulburst.

I'm not certain (without anyone really providing links or anything to their sources) which way Duralumin works, but if it works mutually, as Voidus said, that makes it far more likely that it would be useful mostly to people who have very pure intentions or to people who lack a conscience. The former would make friends all over the place if they chose to and the latter would have no issues cheating or killing a friend. Of course, the thing about Feruchemy is that while it's technically end-neutral, it does allow the Feruchemist (or Ferring) to store indefinitely whereas tapping requires having stored previously, so overall Duralumin would be more useful to someone who is rather an outcast and enjoys/needs to be unobtrusive. Also, Redsword, don't double- (or triple-, in this case) post. It confuses threads.

You must be a Pulser, 'cause time seems to fly when you're around.

Well, you wouldn't do it at a temperature to melt the metal... You'd do it at a temperature to melt ice. I just meant the general ability to melt things by increasing your body heat.
-
I'm not sure we really know how it works until it's used more, right? Though stuff like that would be really good for melting ice off of windshields in the winter.

Not sure how much this classifies as post necro'ing, but this is a good one: P1: "If you're a misting, you must be a Rioter." P2: "Why's that?" P1: "You sure inflame MY emotions." *cue appreciation from P2*

Who needs reverse lashings when you can do this? -
An observation about Vin's earring, which I don't see as a direct obstacle to this theory (though there are other obstacles I agree with): when a Twinborn has unstored metal and stored metal in their stomach, they sense these reserves differently, as if they were different metals. Likely, if hemalurgic spikes can be burned by any allomancer (the two WOB's referenced by Outis on the first page are conflicting, here's the link: http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt=%27hemalurgy%27 ) the spike would be sensed as a separate reserve in the same way. It's possible that Hemalurgically-charged metal is incredibly difficult to sense, but I'm not sure about that one. It seems like a stretch in order to justify an allomancer being able to burn any metal that's piercing their body, but there's no evidence that Inquisitors sense their spikes as allomantic reserves, either. Regardless, I thought that this observation might be helpful.

I have to go for Skimmer. Being able to change my weight would be really awesome, and I just can't see myself turning that down for any other feruchemical ability. There are lots of aspects of physics that I could mess with by changing my weight, even without a complementary allomantic power (like Allomantic steel or Allomantic iron). Climbing things would be a lot easier (when storing), and I could make myself less likely to slip on flattish surfaces by becoming heavier. Also, I could essentially provide infinite energy, which could be nice. Second place goes to Archivist. I have a bad memory (but apparently not bad enough for this to be first place), and it would be nice to remember things more clearly.

Store Feruchemical zinc for years, then compound it while sitting in a doctor's office waiting room in order to do a crossword puzzle. Embed a corpse (robbed from a recent grave, of course) with bits of metal and somehow preserve it, then use Allomantic steel and Allomantic iron to "bring it back to life." Use Feruchemical iron to increase and decrease the speed of a merry-go-'round while on it without pushing. Actually, that sounds kind of fun. Oh, well. Awaken bagpipes with ANY command. Awaken a wheel with the command "Roll upward." (Would this work? How much can Awakened sense their surroundings, and what happens when an Awakened is physically unable to accomplish its goal?) Edit: That's wonderful. It would almost be like having a Smedry talent.- 978 replies

Along the same line of thinking, could you steal the gift of an Aviar using Hemalurgy? Also... I see what you did there.
-
I want to see this WoB, because that sounds amazing and terrifying.
-
Unless intent is actually an important part of Hemalurgy.

While I accept and appreciate that you're trying to be helpful and precise here, this thread is just for fun, as opposed to tending toward any semblance of accuracy in terms of doability. I mean, I could be wrong, so I'd need word from OP to be sure, but that's what it seems like to me.

But you could physically cement the symbolic lasting Connection between them!

Ooh! Hemalurgic wedding ceremony with little Feruchemical duralumin spikes! "And do you, Farentin, take Karalla to be your lawfully wedded wife?" "I do." "Oh, good." *Thunk* *Thunk* "Now, after you stop bleeding, you may kiss." (Yes, I just made up names. I refuse to subject any current characters to this.)

Oh, no. I meant what I said. I suppose one of us will be disappointed, no matter what happens, then. Unless, of course, Mr. Sanderson makes some magic (figuratively) on either side, which I figure is likely.

Aw... Bummer. Forgot about that quote. I feel like I need to re-read WoK and WoR to cement things in my mind. Hm... Other marriages... Well, the obvious one that's left from Scadrial is Wax and Marasi.

Plot twist: Hoid and Cultivation are in love, but can't be together because she's A FREAKING SHARD. (Actually, not TOTALLY impossible...) Also, this:
