  1. I see where you're coming from, but I took that as less Im not sure why I started spoiler-tagging this line of conversation, in retrospect. Do we need it?
  2. I still think he's a great foil to Kaladin, as the example of the opposite path. Im actually really curious to see where things go with his new blindness and his apparent connection to the mysterious El, bearing El's former title. Also I think El is , which if true opens a lot of interesting plot paths.
  3. This is kinda where I land I think, too, honestly. The liquid in the shardpools is the most dense and least controlled of all the forms of Investiture. Raw Injection, especially raw physical injection seems too random of an act with too powerful a substance to be safe. But to be honest, I cant decide if it would be better or worse to find a way to inject it directly into the spiritweb, via hemalurgy or a raysium dagger, etc. EDIT: For that purpose, Im pretty sure the best option out there is Lerasium, since it permanently rewrites spiritwebs directly. I have no idea how to go about manipulating the effects wiht any precision though. My best guess at this point is that you'd want to Invest other metals (through Hemalurgy, Feruchemy, or Awakening) and then alloy that charged metal with Lerasium to make the changes directly to the spiritweb.
  4. Except it apparently didn't. The guy Intended to die, but somehow made it through the Dor and safely to Roshar instead. He intended to Die, but I suppose that could be pretty close to "Travel onward" and be the trigger for the worldhop.
  5. The only time we've seen this happen to a living person, they appeared to dissolve but actually Worldhopped and eventually settled in a lighthouse. It might actually be difficult to stall that process and just soak in it.
  6. Harmony's is likely highly volatile compared to the average shardpool, so Im going to guess the average person would be overwhelmed by the conflicting powers and either destroyed or stasis preserved, depending on which side won out.
  7. They were a status symbol for the wealthy elite. Historically wealthy elite do not take kindly to what they view as "imposters" and take their status symbols very seriously. In that sort of social structure, they are critical to maintaining the caste structure.
  8. No real evidence, but if you already had one and spiked the ability in addition, I think it would pool (like allomantic abilities, for example) and give you a bigger and/or denser Gemheart, rather than two. Same as how spiking Senses increases them but does not grow new body parts.
  9. Maybe, probably, it's tenuous, he'd have to think about it:
  10. We learned in RoW that the Surge Fabrials are created by convincing sapient spren to voluntarily manifest physically as crystal and Metal in the shape of the appropriate fabrial, something "Enlightened" and/or Void Spren are generally not willing to do (per Rabonel). While we dont know what the limits and requirements are from a Spren racial standpoint, its implied that they are made from the same nine Radiant spren species (excluding Bondsmiths per WoB), which makes the most likely candidates (if not the only possibilities) to be Highspren and Honorspren. Honorspren as a society have shown themselves a bit split on how to support the war effort, with a fear of the Radiant Bond and Deadeyes being the biggest apparent factor. Maya and The Trial upended all that, but I dont think the Fear in individuals will go away as quickly. Becoming a Surge Fabrial seems a decent middle ground for those that want to support the War effort against Odium but do now want to risk the Radiant Bond.
  11. Yes, but the key there is Consent (as with so many things). There's a difference between being housed in a Gem and Imprisoned in a gem; the former is natural for them, the latter is always a violation of the one that is being held against their will. They had no problem with Fabrials that were spren who Chose to manifest, and their systems use a lot of discrete fabrial systems that presumably used other spren (since those worked without the Sibling). For Spanreeds, I suspect they will find a spren that doesnt mind and/or isnt harmed by the process (fire seems the most compatible), or else find a different mechanism to base them on (Connection, most likely). The other uses like the 4th bridge are "easier" in that we can readily see them being replaced by Gravitation Fabrials. Which are more likely after Adolin's trial, I would think. Agreed. Fabrial development wont stop, it will just need to become more humane. That's happened a lot in real world history with "tools" that are actually domesticated animals.
  12. The sibling isnt against Fabrials (it literally is one) or Spren in Gems on it's own. But in general the process for capturing the spren and then the "processes" (I think the sibling called it torture) that they put the spren through to get their desired effect is arguably inhumaine. In particular the Conjoiner Fabrials that Navani pioneered involve Cutting the very Soul of the spren in two pieces. Per this WOB that is not a pleasant process for a Spren. It's noted in the book that they experimented on a lot of spren types but settled on Firespren because they are the easiest to split. I suspect Fire doesnt mind by nature but many other sorts were more damaged/harmed by the splitting.
  13. We have no idea. The nature, capabilities, and/or limits of his magical abilities are unknown. He can see into the future, but that's about the only confirmed ability. He likely has had lots of Dakhor work done, unless there are downsides he doesnt personally want. He seems entirely willing to have his subjects be his main power. He claims to be the spokesperson of Jaddeth, who was originally a minor Selish god of underground stone before becoming more politically and culturally significant in later generations, but an actual entity may or may not exist. He could be anything from a prophet with only Precience as an ability, on up to the actual Embodiment/host of a Splinter entity named Jaddeth. Pretty much anything in between, including a Selish equivalent of a Bondsmith, are theoretically possible.
  14. It may disconnect them but the nature of Light is innately leaky because of the rosharan storm cycle, and gem storage the same limits. There are at least some groups that have been able to make anti-light for a while but still are working on getting things off world. Now, the most straightforward way to ship investiture off Roshar that we know works would be actual metric tonnes of white sand, but by all appearance it's a very low density storage.
  15. To me "Hive Mind" has connontations of a Single Self distributed over lots of physical bodies, and I dont think Connection alone would suppress the Individuals enough. Bondsmiths are more versatile so who knows what they can do. If they did, it might depend on what sort of Bond they were working with and/or modelling it after. The Squire-Radiant bond, for example, might be a place to start to get that sort of Communal thing going, but that one is distance-limited implying that the Bond is more Cognitive than Spiritual. Radiants get Resonances unique to their order and related to their two surges, and each type tends to gravitate towards specific traits and/or types of people, but I dont think it gets any more individual or diverse than that. So if something is conveyed it might more likely be something on a more generic Human vs Singer level. Maybe being Hived to a Singer would let the group hear the Rhythms, while being Hived to a Human would make lesser spren more responsive to them the way they are to Humans relative to the Singers.
  16. You can Invert the wave-form to make Anti-light, and two people with an emulsifier of Common Purpose can combine them to make the combination Lights. Beyond that we dont know what it would take to turn any "Light" investitures into any off-world Investitures. But we do know that several very knowledgeable characters like Vasher, Hoid, the Ghostbloods and the Heralds all have yet to solve that puzzle, but are actively working on it to varying degrees. I think it's more or less the Holy Grail of Worldhopping, because Light is stupid abundant but so damn hard to move or store, while things like Breaths are waaaay better for commerce and likely way more versatile, but normally limited by having a rare and slow source (ie. sentient births).
  17. It all depends on how you frame it, especially when you are talking about magics that specifically require understanding and Intent. In the case of Cadmium and Bendalloy, I would consider it entirely consistent for them to originally think it stores just "Food" or "Water" as the most basic physical requirement but era3 scientist learn that it's just a Blood Compound interface that can store general Nutrition and hydration but also specific dietary vitamins and minerals, maybe extract poisons, Platelets. etc. And that Bendalloy specifically targets metabolic processes over nutritional stores but the average person only understands the one. If the last one is correct, for example (and also a very bad understanding of biology) maybe one of them would be able to Store the biologic process that is a Tan. But then, as a COMPLETELY different interpretation, I could also see the explanation for Cadmium having nothing at all to do with blood oxygen levels or chemistry and is in fact just a Temporal effect that specifically adjusts the rate at which your body uses up oxygen relative to its energy output. EDIT, and those are just examples off the top of my head, but really all this comes down to me thinking that many of the metals will eventually have their functions defined in more specific and Scientific/Realmic terms than the early industrial societies so far, and once that happens they will com up with a whole lot of weird single uses and combination uses that would have previously been thought impossible.
  18. I was assuming it would be a mundane metal and so need to be one of the 16, but your point about Godmetals and alloys is a good one. Not my preference since Im really looking forward to a scientific complexity of metalic arts gizmo's comparable to Fabrial's
  19. There's some debate on this, and everything has a blanket RAFO until era3 comes out because it will be plot relevant. The Fundamental question is whether it the Metallic Arts can actually Invest a charge of Investiture into Aluminum (for Feruchemy OR Hemalurgy). If it can, that would be the only known mechanism in all the Cosmere that was able to Invest aluminum. In light of that, some wonder (myself included) if Aluminum Metalminds can only Blank Identity by grounding out the Investiture and cannot actually be Tapped to increase Identity because they dont actually Store Investiture. Similarly for hemalurgy the Spike removes Powers but doesn't add anything, so there's a question of whether any Spiritweb Charge is actually captured.
  20. I feel like the main sticking point that's getting people is the fact that breathing is as much about expelling waste carbon as it is obtaining new O2. There is a similar issue with long-term used of Bendalloy, but the WOB below has long made me think the metal is capable of it with the correct Intent, in the same way it can store Nutrients OR Hydration but not both (in the same metalminds). I suspect that once their Science advances enough to understand the chemistry of breathing, they'll be able to similarly conceptualize a Cadmium metalminds to store away CO2 (as Investiture) as well. Im less certain but still pretty sure that they could also store more Pure gasses that way, and currently they just default to the standard Air mixture because they dont know any better. But if that's the case they should indeed be able to store Pure o2, Co2, or even N2, which would actually be a pretty damn efficient way to separate gasses (which by normal mechanical means is pretty tough and inefficient.
  21. Personally, I do think it can Store and release actual gaseous mass, mostly because I expect it to develop into an Ettmetal based life support system for a spaceship. Alternatively it would be kinda funny if a more scientifically advanced Scadrial realized that it is literally just stripping the carbon off the Co2 in the lungs, continuously refreshing it to o2 that way. I also dont think it works at the blood/nutrient level since that seems to be the realm of Bendalloy, which can do both nutrients and hydration.
  22. Sounds like you are aiming squarely for the Hard Magic end of the spectrum. Have you read Sanderson's Laws of Magic? I have ideas but the Why of them would mostly be using those Laws' as they guiding philosophy. https://faq.brandonsanderson.com/knowledge-base/what-are-sandersons-laws-of-magic/
  23. In general, and as far as we know: Yes, if you have the ability to Burn the metal, and the sample you Burn is not blocked by Identity in some way, you should be able to Burn it and get the burst of the Feruchemical Energy. Without the corresponding Feruchemical Ability you would not be able to ReStore that energy into a metalmind for later or for large bursts, so there would be limits. But if the initial metalmind is UnKeyed or Keyed to you (via using hemalurgy or an unSealed Metalmind, etc) I do believe you could Allomantically burn it, flare it, etc. and release Feruchemical effects at allomantic rates until you burned up the Charged sample.
  24. That's a matter of Spren though. They can Bond with anyone they want (even a Yolen Native that is arguably barely human anymore) but some may or may not find traits to be Distasteful, like being a worldhopper or having Spikes, etc. But that will vary from spren to spren, both within and between the different spren races. So far as we know the only actual requirement are the same sort of Spiritual cracks that Snapping provided for mistborn.
  25. I agree with this, there's going to be an element of personal Compatibility from person to person, as a 4th factor. But all individual things being equal I dont think there is going to be any one of the 16 that is innately more or less prone to warping. I generally thing the Intent warping is more or less like savantism and/or Sliver warping which are all about quantities of Investiture, and all the 16 Shards are equal in Power. At most I think there might be one or more that allow for alternative to the Single-Vessel model, btu Im making some assumptions about how Avatar-ism works there.
