  1. I see what you're saying. And honestly this wob might tip it you way, depending on whether you see Dalinar as the super-experienced one like Lan, or the Soldier with a much more Battlefield focus like Kaladin. I still lean towards him being the latter. So I'll change my answer to: 50/50, and it goes to the first one willing to fight dirty.
  2. Oh my yes. If she gained access to bendalloy compounding, she could convert as much Preservation into life light as spiritweb could handle without overloading.
  3. With that as the assignment, there are going to be a ton of salads showing up that day, I think. Id lean into some sort of no-heat dessert. I havent tried any but the icebox banana cheesecake looks pretty good. https://www.thekitchn.com/sweets-without-no-heat-12-noba-122345
  4. Spiritweb Surgery using a combination of Forger, Hemalurgy, and Bondsmith-esk fabrial based Connection manipulation.
  5. Larkin are one of the relatively few things that can suck in any Investiture regardless of the "flavor", like Nightblood. I was going to go into details myself but the Coppermind is pretty concise: Im going to say Negative since most things still have a little cost of transfer inefficiency (which I expect to be critical to preventing world-breaking perpetual motion type issues come the sci-fi era). Also seems like a Ruinous way to go, so it feels thematically right. I dont think we know for sure but if I had to guess I would say Lift probably cannot create more calories with investiture than the Investiture itself would be. Generally the cosmere works on a lot of pseudo-scientific principles and while we dont know the reltivistic conversion to Energy yet, there's very likely to be some version of Conservation of (Invested) Energy involved.
  6. Fair enough. The only two issues there is that she'd need the right Essence on her soulcaster so there'd be that issue too, and also Nale had already used a Larkin on her which would have drained any Soulcaster or sphere she might have along with her Awesome. Alternatively just go full Zombie Mike Tyson on the nearest squire; it's wildly distasteful but it's digestible Meat...
  7. Favorite Movie? Favorite Video Game? Favorite non-Sanderson Book? Also: I have to know, what exact is "Super Nebraska"?
  8. Not easily, but with skill Yes. If Jasnah could target just Shallan's blood then being internal wont innately block it (like with some lower power magics). It would likely prove an inefficient path to the conversion, but it should work. It would cause a really uncomfortable reverse-Burp as the the air shrank to a solid/liquid. Probably a lot easier to just convert something inanimate nearby (like dirt or wood or stone or water) into food, where at least the volume is equivalent.
  9. Nah, that was a thing too, that was asked in part of the WOB: I should clarify, the WOB says she should be able to "Open A Perpendicularity" which might not actually cover Investiture granting. Ishar used the power to transition to Shadesmar that time, but was still surprised that Dalinar could "used Honor's Path". But then, the Stormfather was shocked Ishar could open it (or something) too and was was particularly shocked that he couldnt sense Ishar doing it.
  10. Hmm, good point, though I suppose it can always be an Intent thing where they need to know to try, or some such. I do like the tie in that Inkspren manifest with the same form in both worlds, from a thematic standpoint.
  11. Lift is a special case in that she can only get Lifelight from food but cannot take in Stormlight in from gems at all, so she may not be able to take ambient Investiture in at all. But yes, I do recall an old WOB that said you could charge gems from other perpendicularities, though it was long before we'd gotten into the different types of Light so it might not be that simple. However, per WOB Investiture-in-Gems predates the honor's arrival (maybe the shattering?) so it has a decent chance of being a fairly universal way to store Investiture. Hard to say if it would, for example, hold Mist directly or need it to be converted to some sort of PreservationLight first. Per WOB Bondsmiths could open perpendicularities before, and Navani can theoretically learn how. If true, it could follow that the Nigthtwatcher's Bondsmith might source Lifelight through their's.
  12. Interesting Idea and I agree there's a good chance different Orders will have unique abilities. Personal opinions only: About half of the Orders have an inward/self focus on their Ideals, compared to more outward ones like Windrunners and Edgedancers. I think the outward ones will be the only ones to share their plate like Windrunners. I tend to think Truthwatchers will get the Healing Plate so that Edgedancers get more of an active protection like Windrunners where their Plate can jump to others and channel Abrasion to slick them. There wasnt any hint of Jashan getting advanced spren senses when she was fighting in her plate, and I have to assume there would be a bunch on an active battlefield. Maybe it will focus on the Life Support needs of an Elsecaller in Shadesmar and provide Feruchemical-esk support for air, food/water, and Waste (Something Adolin would appreciate).
  13. I prefer the common form over the in-world faux-british. Im not sure either would qualify as canonical though, in light of this WOB:
  14. I have no idea, but Devil's Advocate statement is that those era1 folks are collectively referred to as the Originators, so Founders might be a different group despite the Words of Founding covering that era. The only other actual option I can think of is that the Founders are the First Generation Kandra, the only ones ever to be born Human.
  15. In a 1-on-1 duel sort of fight, Adolin. He's a dedicated Duelist (it's literally his religion) while Dalinar was and still is more just a terrifying presence on a battle-field (and a good judge of talent).
  16. Broadly the Lore (at it's surface level) can be found at the Coppermind Wiki (link at the top of the page). The Depths are the Arcanum collection of the Word of Brandon (the rest of the Lore from Q&A's and interviews and whatnot). Both will contain significant spoilers to the other Cosmere works, so proceed with extreme caution until you read the rest of the works. In particular Id recommend avoiding anything about Scadrial/Mistborn or Stormlight Archive, as it is pretty easy for them to spoil a few pretty awesome twists and surprise reveals and whatnot. For Elantris and Emeror's Soul, the planet in question is Sel: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Sel
  17. Lightweaver and Willshaper, probably.
  18. He needs to be "close to the Spiritual" to feel sane, but that might be able to happen in several ways. A radiant swearing near him will do it, as will ANY bondsmith swearing one (far rarer). A Shard could certainly just kinda do it, and the Nightwatcher might have enough Spiritual Realm access and/or Spiritweb manipulation to pull it off. Im curious if an actual Shardpool would help? The Bondsmith summoned perpendicularity isnt enough, but the Investiture present in the shardpool liquid in the horneater peaks might be different and/or access a deeper part of the Spiritual realm.
  19. US! Welcome! The basic levels of delving the Mysteries tend to be as follows (with links at the top of the page), but the conversations happen at all levels so dont feel shy and just hop in where-ever you are interested. Maybe check out the forum rules and spoiler policy and wahtnot if you haven't already. The Novels The Coppermind (wiki) The Arcanum (Word of Brandon tidbit collection)
  20. It could block one if invested enough, but just being invested wont make it spiritually Cut the way a shardblade or honorblade does. If it's possible within the Metallic Arts, I think you'd have to make something at least as complex as Medallion tech, and engage Hemalurgic properties somehow, since it's also all about damaging the spiritweb directly.
  21. Yes, it can be overwhelmed, or at least things like thickness can and will be a factor. It operates as something of a field effect.
  22. Yes and sort of. That particular Hoed became the Lighthouse Keeper and did join the Ire once he left the Physical Realm, but the Ire predate the Raod so they are not purely zombie Elantrian that tried to escape their fate like him.
  23. Sorry, Ill try, but explaining Investiture gets pretty deep into how reality works in the cosmere so it gets pretty wild. Allomancy is the easiest and probably needs the least amount of weird realmic Knowledge. Allomancy: You know how in Chemistry they will burn a compound to figure out what it is? Burn something with copper and you get green fire; not a whole lot of reason to it, just that when you shove extra heat energy into copper it vibrates at the "Green" frequency of light (something has to, right?). In the Cosmere, if you shove Preservation's flavor of Investiture/Magic through Copper, you get a Coppercloud effect, and that's just what it does. Ditto all the other mundane metals. Mistings and mistborn are born with a spiritual power conduit to the godling called Preservation (a capital C "Connection"). When they swallow and "Burn" a metal, it opens that power conduit and channels the magic out into the world from Preservation, but the different magical effects are like the different Colors you get when you burn a metal in Chemistry. Feruchemy and Hemalurgy take more cosmic context: So, reality in the Cosmere is weird at a fundamental level. Instead of just Matter and Energy as the "states" of existence (E=MC2 and all that), there's a third thing in the mix called Investiture. There are also three Realms: the Physical Realm that is normal Space/Time with planets and stars linear time and all that, the Cognitive Realm your more classically strange Dreamscape/Spirit World/NeverNever sort of place that has it's own rules and geometry and whatnot, and then there is the Spiritual Realm which is a giant quantum ball of energy, where space and time dont exist and both the actual reality/timeline and all possible alternative realities all coexist (it's like looking out from the inside of a black hole, and you probably have to be on LSD or something to fully comprehend it all). The Spiritual aspect of a person is called the "Spiritweb", and is the magic "soul" that makes you who and what you are. I like Spiritweb better but it's also described as Spiritual DNA sometimes. Feruchemy: For this, ignore the Cognitive realm because it doesnt play any obvious role. Think of the Spiritual realm as a Computer, and the physical reality of the cosmere (the Physical Realm) as the simulation program that the Computer is running. So on a continuous basis, there is a flow of Investiture from the spiritual Realm that is creating and maintaining all of reality, including individual people, and allowing them to be sentient beings (ie. running the program and setting their Stats). Feruchemist will divert some of that natural magic flow that would normally be providing something (health, Strength, Mental capacity, etc) and store it into a Metalmind battery; you operate at reduced capacity for a while and can be better than normal for an equivalent amount of time. "Filling" a metalmind is saving back some of that power for later, and "Tapping" is using that savings, but those terms are really only used for Feruchemy. Side note: Blocking up that natural flow from the Spiritual Realm is what created the Mist fiends in the first place. Hemalurgy: Hemalurgy takes a metal spike, Shoves it through a living person's blood to touch their Spiritweb directly, and then violently rips off some functional chunk of the circuitry. Then, by placing it into a Bind Point on another person, you are wiring that functional piece back in to their spiritweb (whether it knows what to do with it or not). Different Metals are essentially differently shaped Hooks that specialize in ripping different parts of the Spiritweb off. In the computer metaphor that might be virtualization or something? But really I think it's like trying to wire a radio into your laptop using a hammer and a box of paperclips.
  24. I vote "Continue", because if they were made into a Cognitive Shadow it would have had to happen before they moved Beyond, which is what would have broken the Bond (I think). They would need their Body to return to (like Szeth) or a replacement (like Kelsier maybe) or there becomes a separate problem with them not providing the Spren with a link to the Physical realm. But that might just prevent them from manifesting in the Phyical realm safely without actually severing the Bond.
