Yeah, Pewter Steel for Speed that's backed by supernatural strength to game the velocity/momentum math, or else Pewter/Iron to game the Mass/weight calculations to let you leverage that strength to it's fullest and beyond.
-
There's a WOB that implies Pewter is a lot more versatile than they currently realize, that it's activating an investiture fueled Mind-Over-Matter state that might allow bigger, more Retuned-like changes to their physical form. If true and not otherwise limited in some unknown ways, that's likely to be the most versatile (almost certainly the best for an earth-bound Allomancer with no other powers out in the world, if that's the hypothetical scenario here). But if that's true then it could also imply that the other Allomantic metals are equally broad and unexplored. Perhaps Tin and/or Bronze can open more exotic senses with the proper Intent?

Both of those are an issue because it's technically an external object which arent generally subject to feruchemistry augmentation. Sooo... Supersonic spit? Seriously though, that is more or less the reason I dont think there will be a sensation of additional drag when you throw using feruchemcial superspeed. Feruchemy seems to draw a sharp distinction at the Internal vs External Boundary, and in the other comparable cases that come to mind the Feruchemist experiences things more or less normally while their interaction to the outside world gets modified, almost like a skin-level field effect. So for the same reason that tapping weight lets you crush what you are standing one without needing or granting any actual magical durability to their bones, I think the ferring will feel as if they just threw the object normally, they'll burn normal calories and gain normal exercise benefits, and both their arm and the ball will simply interact with the outside world on a 2x multi as they cross that Internal/External boundary line. Whether in-world science proves there's a literal field effect like I describe or if feruchemcial superspeed somehow also increases strength proportionally as a 2ndary subconscious effect or something else entirely with realmic hoodoo, I think the subjective experience for the Ferring is going to be normal-feeling interaction with carried and thrown objects, just in 2x bullet-time. Otherwise there'd probably be a much more prominent sense of swimming through mud just running at high speeds with of your clothing all pulling against you, and you would literally run the risk of bursting out of your own cloths like the Kool-aid man if you tapped too much. That didnt happen with the Bands and I cant really think of another metal that could have prevented it if it were a real danger. Granted defining that Internal/External line is a whole other conversation thanks to the whole Touch vs Eaten Vs Bind Point Inserted scale already being a rabbit-hole discussion present in the metallic arts.

Yes, it's a supernatural effect. It's not associated with any specific magic system, it's more of a supernatural symptom of severe trauma in a universe with the Three Realms.

I understand that, and it's definitely better than a Mistemist or similar, but I think we have an opportunity for a semantic course correction, unless it appeared already in era2 like @IcedOutPenguin said.
-
Hmm, I wonder: If the culture deeply believed that the Emotional Center was a different organ, like a more literal belief in the Emotions of the Heart, or the old Humors of the Liver era of "science", would you need aluminum torso covering to get the same protection?

Can we talk about our "Fullborn" term for a minute, if that one's still just a Fan thing? We might want to consider a new term, because one of the few known traits is that they cannot actually be Born. Is FullForged too clunky? Alloyed, maybe?

Husked-one fused weaponry / Cosmere Wolverine
Quantus replied to Hoid Slayer's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hard to say for sure, but since the Husked ones leave the husk of their former body behind, I think normal piercings and swallowed objects, etc would stay behind. [Msitborn stuff]- 4 replies

Ooooh, fun! Ok, so patches of natural Investiture that bubble up and that warp the Spiritweb over extended and/or repeated exposure. That's definitely doable, in several different ways. You could call it a Snapping equivalent that just takes exposure, or you could have some initial effect that's only accessed while in the Stains and repeated exposure/use of those would cause a sort of aggressive Savantism effects. That initial effect could be something in their control like a normal Power, or something a bit more wild like Prophetic Visions (realmically like Gold or other spiritual effects) or uncontrolled Time-slipping (Rip-Van-Winkle style). At one extreme, make it extremely powerful but completely random, where one time and person might get Spiritual Healing with no down-sides while the next person gets a Tail and the next looses their sense of hearing, with no apparent pattern or repetition. Or make it more Balanced with a Boon/Curse sort of pairing. That sort of framework lets you do just about anything within the general power levels of an internally sourced magic like Feruchemy. For more overt blasty effects you might need to have something provide a nominally external source of Investiture. The Stains themselves could be it, a sort of bog-like diffused shardpool so their actual fog is the Investiture, allowing for things like scientific concentration into mana-potions. Or it could be purely internally fueled so the Boon's improvement gets balanced by the Curse side's impairment. Or take the Luhel Bond route where there's some specific material (it doesnt have to be water or metal) that you consume and convert to provide Investiture for the Stained Powers.

Sorry, I may not be understanding your question? Storing and Filling are the same thing. F-Nicrosil as we currently understand it (which is only medallions and may be different for an actual Ferring) stores the Ability to use a type of Investiture as a Discrete thing the same way Copper stores a Memory, it's a whole thing that goes into and out of storage instead of a bulk commodity sort of thing you accumulate a quantity of. At least per a WOB that was specifically in the context of Medallions. But yes, one popular theory is that a twinborn Ferring storing an allomantic ability for a day would let them operate that allomancy at double-strength for a day, as if they had a Spike to multiply its Power level as we saw during era1. But we dont know and wont until Era3, he apparently has plans for a Nicrosil ferring character and is saving all information for in-story reveals. As to the last question, it probably will depend on whether you can only store the a whole thing (like Copper) or if you can natively store and multiple your strength in a given Power (more like Tin) where separate metalminds are needed for separate variants.

More Id be concerns with a potential for the accumulated trauma of a repeating cycle of pain, damage, and (hopefully) healing. I dont think the feruchemical side of things are going to be an issue from an end-neutral, etc way, but I think the living nature of the Spren and the more Intent sensitive nature of rosharan magics. They might cause direct harm to the spren from the cycles, or the bond might not recover without an actual Change of your mind/Intent such that you cant heal the Damage so long as you meant to do it and fully intend to do it again.

There's two questions, what can the Bond Do and what can a Ferring Tap. An aluminum Ferring can only do things in short bursts without some Compounding Hack*, and they'd have to deal with lowering the Bond while Storing. The Deadeye Bond itself is another question. If we assume Adolin has increased the Bond he had with Maya from the gem, etc and didnt forge something entirely new, that's probably out best example of what the bond can do on a scale. Tapping should make it easier to Summon in a shorter timeframe, hold it solid to throw, and if sustained well enough it might reawaken the deadeye spren like Maya. We havent seen her shapeshift that I recall but I wouldnt put it past them. But Feruchemcially Storing the Bond could be damaging to the deadeye spren itself along the same lines of a Radiant regressing on their Oaths, so there might be serious consequences without compounding. *I dont know you can, but I also dont know you Cant do something as simple as tuning-fork transfer Stormlight into a Metalmind to re/over-charge a pre-tuned Metalmind, or some such. Stormlight doesnt go into metal without a feruchemist but it already interacts with it in fabrials so it might be half-way there.

What are the boundaries of the soul?
Quantus replied to Lord Ruler Sylphrena's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There's also the Sleepers as an example. Hordlings are bred so they have an advantage in sharing Identity, but while they can sometimes separate from the horde, I dont think we've seen anything non-native to it just be absorbed. They can interbreed with things to make new types of Hordlings, but I assume there's a generation before they become one with the Horde. -
Shardblades and that critical 10 heartbeats
Quantus replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just to clarify, shattering the gem would prevent them from resummoning it after the throw, but you dont risk actually loosing it. He specifically removed the mechanics that would have made shattering the Gem a means of breaking the Bond and taking the weapon. It's required for the bond to form to a deadeye blade, but if shattering it wont break the bond then it's pretty likely you only need to to establish the bond and can summon it freely after that, even if the gem were destroyed. -
Shardblades and that critical 10 heartbeats
Quantus replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I mean, cocaine... Technically, if you can change the shape then it means it's a Radiant Blade, so the heartbeats limitation isnt really a factor anymore, and if it's a deadeye blade it's going to be a sword. But for the sake of argument, either way my answer is some version of a Bow. If I m a radiant and can change it's shape, Id use a Shard arrow and a mundane but massive spring-steel bow with my plate. If, on the other end of the spectrum it's a group of complete normies with a randomly shaped shardblade but no training or Plate or anything, I'd make a size-appropriate Ballista in more of a Siege-weapon scenario. Strap a short spear with oversized fletching on it to the back of the blade to make it fly more like a dart, launch, resummon, repeat while the rest of your crew re-cranks the ballista itself. -
Logically, there are several possibilities They couldnt see it coming the same way Odium cant see Renarin coming, some Power (Dawnshard or otherwise) obscured everyone's ability to foresee the events They Saw it coming but failed to stop it through hubris or inattention or some personality failing. Or through no failing and the Godkillers as a team were just that clever They wanted to stop it but decided the consequences of Overt divine resistance would be worse, catastrophic consequences of breaking fundamental rules of Reality or some such. They didnt want it to happen but saw Far Enough, all the way to the end of the whole Cosmere Saga (era 4 ending, etc) and decided the eventual outcome of the Shattering would be the Better End. They just Wanted to Stop being the Big A of the Cosmere, so they allowed it to happen. They then went to the Beyond They then retired to some corner of the cosmere as a former-god Sliver, absent the Power.

Depends on the shade of hazel, it can tip either way. For comparison, he considers his own hazel to be on the Dark-eyed side of the line.

It's possible that the Terkin is it's own evolved Investiture effect, but it's also possible that they just naturally metabolize and concentrate one of the relevant metals (silver or aluminum, etc). The in-world test would be to attempt to smelt some elemental metal from the dissolved carapace or oils, etc.

What magics in the cosmere would appear as lightning?
Quantus replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Stormform explicitly does it so there should be a Surge approach for it, and I think it's an application of Division to create the charge separation involved (and why SkyBreakers are breaking the Sky). AonDor can do it, and any other Dor magic that lends itself to overt Energy attacks (maybe ChayShan or Dahkor bone-works). Awakening Cannot do it, since you cant use awakening for energies (per WOB you cant use Awakening Commands to make something warmer). Metallic Arts cant do Lightning directly right now, but Steel and Iron can probably drive more complex electric generators eventually. I wouldnt be surprised to learn that there's a Lightning Aether, but we dont know of one right now. -
This is what I was anticipated, a large-scale change with a lot of horrible mutated mistakes before you get it right (akin to genetic splicing, if a little easier thanks to the spiritual level adaptations). But if Spikes can steal things like Gemhearts they should be capable of transferring physical traits so long as you have a natural donor. I'd think Sho-Dal extra limbs would be viable too. Or let a Sleeper handle the preliminary breeding modifications and then spike it out of a hordling.
-
Cut out the middle step and Spike the Sense out of them directly to implant in a Human. It'll likely have some weird side effects and it'll probably take a bloody lot of bloody experimentation to work out the details, but it should be viable within the known function of the system.
-
To that point, it sounds like it'll also depend on the physical nature/Essence of the object in question. Soulcasting also relies on the self-identity of the object, and by all accounts each Essence has a very different sense of Self and typical path to changing it's Mind about itself. Soulcasting represent a more dramatic change than simple physical changes (be they creation or destruction), but it's fundamentally the same process for the beads.

For what it's worth, I assume it's the same timeframe that limits a Bondsmith's ability to use Adhesion to repair broken objects.
