  1. Not all have an direct paired opposite, though there are several that can be considered opposites for most cases, and the personalities (of the vessels) has an impact. I personally think there is a certain amount of polarity in how the 16 shards fell out (in a theory based on the Allomantic table), which is why "several can be considered opposites" but there's nothing like confirmation for it.
  2. @Invocation Dammit, why you gots'ta rain on my parade with your facts? So, actually Splintering the shard itself is beyond him, but how do we feel about him being able to Kill the Vessel? Is there enough ambivalence in the second WOB to allow for that?
  3. Superpower of Choice?
  4. Im not sure if this is even in the cards given the existing Number themes for Roshar vs Braize/Odium, but it would be interesting to me if this were us witnessing the birth of the Tenth Unmade.
  5. It's really all in the title: Does the Everstorm have a Spren equivalent of the Stormfather, and if not will it develop one eventually? What sparked the question is the Voice in the Everstorm that Venli heard, which shoo'd away the Fused soul and preserved her, letting her bond a lesser spren to get Envoyform. The Fused and corrupted spren assumed she was preserved by Odium, which is a reasonable explanation for the "paternal" voice, though it makes me wonder how much he noticed about Timbre, and what his plans for her (them?) are.

"Holy Crap" Indeed, now THAT is some amazing work!
  7. I think you'd have to actually hit the Stormfather with Nightblood to be a threat to him, and his physical aspect is the whole bloody storm. though I'd be worried that Dalinar wielding Nightblood while bonded might start to suck both of them down when he ran out of stormlight and went to devour Dalinar's soul, given that the Nahel Bond is a symbiotic merging of Spiritwebs. Same general issue with a Shard, I dont think he'd be Unable to eat and/or hold the Shard so much as you'd be unable to pin one down long enough for him to finish the meal. I do think he'd have far less trouble Eating the Nightwatcher from a practical standpoint, and she's more or less equal to the Stormfather in power. It's worth noting that apparently the danger of Nightblood eating a whole planet was an initial design concern, which makes me tend to expect great and terrible things from him. I fully expect him to play the role of Godkiller before all is said and done.
  8. It's very similar, though it's described more as a bond based on Love rather than Oaths and/or obligation. I suspect that since they do not have the more formalized process of speaking Ideals to strengthen the bond in stages they will not merge souls to quite the extent that Radiants and Spren do. It's possibly closer in degree to the Honorblade bond that specifically is less efficient because it's a lighter/shallower bond, which (like Seons) can be far more easily passed from person to person. Also the seon Bond itself doesnt actually grant either part any specific powers, unlike Radiant spren that rely on it to manifest in the Physical Realm as sentient creatures, and grant Surges in return.
  9. According to my father that's because you are leaving tiny scratches in the surface ("so dammit boy stop drawing in the dust on the car window!"). Seriously though, I could see how it would work after the dust were blown away, but likely not if another line were scribed across it, at least based on the the chasm-line issue.
  10. As others have said, it depends on what kind of leader and what they are leading: Dalinar is shaping up to be the quintessential War-time King, but I think he'd agree that he's not the guy for peace time politics, though he's who Id want facing down the Desolation. Kaladin is the right kind of leader on the Battlefield but is equally unsuited for council chamber politics, and isnt ready to lead nations (though at the end of the series he very well could be). Ditto on the flip-side for Jasnah, she's ready to lead a faction of the coalition and great with the poltical side, but I wouldnt yet want her having the final word on the fate of the world. Lightsong would be horrified by the idea of anyone following him anywhere, which makes him a great religions leader (basically leads by accidental example) and Id love to see him resurrected on Scadrial as a prophet of the Path. But he'd be terrible as a traditional leader of a nation, he doesnt have the focus and/or drive, and worst case would devolve into Elhokar (well meaning, but prone to missing key things). Kelsier is a hard No for me, at least until we know details of what he was up to after Era1. He was in many ways closer to a necessary monster than a good, long-term leader. Although he led a Crew with a specific goal quite well, he was unabashedly narrow in his thinking, and a bit of a psychopath (just because they make successful CEO's doesnt mean I actually want them in charge). It's been a really long time since I read Elantris, so Im going to abstain from comment on Raoden. He was good at giving people Purpose and direction, which counts for a lot. Other: I think Vasher (Warbreaker and Peacegiver) deserves to be on the list, honestly. And Mr.T should probably make the list to represent the pragmatists, though I wouldnt personally vote for him. I think Susebron has a pretty good start, but he's reeeaaaallly young in almost every sense of the word.
  11. Whereas I think he could take one of those as well...
  12. What chapters are those pages in? I work from the e-book, so page numbers change with my font size settings. In general, I dont think that he'd have wanted to be in such prominent view of any shards, nor to actually become one. I also dont think he'd want to have become a Bondsmith as bonding any of the three unique spren would likely make worldhopping significantly harder (on the basis that they are going to be far more Invested and connected to Roshar than the average Cryptic). That being said, Lift was apparently able to (mostly) hide from Odium while in one of the visions, Im curious if her wonkiness is in any way similar to Hoid's method for hiding from Shards.
  13. Im not talking about Resonances when I say they operate differently, Im talking about how the Stormfather specifically told Dalinar that his Surge would work differently than for the Stoneward in his vision. It's not going to be different in every case (Windrunner and Skybreakers certainly seem to use Gravitation the same) but there are differences between various Orders' expressions of individual surges.
  14. Excellent point, Id forgotten that mistborn bit. I still do wonder what version of each Surge it provides, given that different Orders manifest them in qualitatively different ways.
  15. I could buy that, nice theory. We know that Hemalurgic spikes never completely loose their charge, but also that there is enough noticeable loss of power in the first few instants of making one that they liked to hammer them directly through both the donor/victim and the recipient in the same stroke. That would fit the curve.
  16. As @CrazyRioter said, there's a scene with Demid and Venli that confirms the forms are all lesser spren. The Coppermind says "all ten" specifically but that is based on a OB epigraph that says "Yelig-nar had great powers, perhaps the powers of all Surges compounded in one. He could transform any Voidbringer into an extremely dangerous enemy. Curiously, three legends I found mention swallowing a gemstone to engage this process." so it could be referring to the nine Fused surges rather than the ten Radiant surges, or for that matter the ten Voidbinding Surges, all of which seem to operate differently. Given that those epigraphs are from Hessi's Mythica, though, I tend to think she would have been referring to the far more well-known and understood Radiant surges. But even then it is all In-World speculation, rather than a WOB. I tend to lean the other direction, that it would be more interesting for the "upgrade" to take somebody that was clearly no threat at all and make them a surprise Big-Bad. By that criteria alone I'd actually put Dabbid fairly high on the list, come to think of it.
  17. I just meant that it took Kaladin for him to survive his incarceration under Sadeas, I wasnt trying to imply he was Radiant himself back then, sorry. Fair point, and good catch with the WoK quote.
  18. Good question, Im curious what came of him too, especailly given how badly things went for Amaram's forces in Theylan Field. As a member of his personal guard there's a good chance he was present, but he was also in charge of HQ security, so he might have been left behind and/or guarding Ialai at the time. As far as why he didnt seek out Kaladin, I can see all kinds of reasons ranging from him simply not remembering one of many random recruits that he'd trained over the years and so not making the connection, on up to him remembering precisely who Kaladin was (branded coward that may or may not have been betrayed by their liege) and him not wanting to seek out such an awkward encounter.
  19. We dont know all the details (because Rock is hiding them from Bridge four for his own reasons) but when his wife asked about two of the others (Tifi and Sinaku'a) Rock said they where dead because "they raised weapons in vengeance." The implication is that Rock is the only member of the entourage to have survived, and it took a literal (radiant) miracle for that to happen.
  20. Probably depends on the nature of the process. If it's like a Listener Form it might be reversible, and I think that's likely since it appears to act as a Gemheart. I tend to think Amaram was being more actively manipulated and/or accelerated by Odium directly, he seemed to be taking command of a lot of things during that battle. I'd go with that. I tend to consider Yelig-Nar as the Ultimate Form of Power (with the Gem acting as a supplemental gemheart) and the Forms (even forms of Power) are specifically provided by the "lesser" spren rather than the fully-sapient types. As far as who might get him, I dont think it will need to be a Fighter like Amaram. We're talking about a person who gets ALL surges, which would imply that Anything Radiants can do s/he can do. That would theoretically include the non-combat things like Elsecalling, Truthwatching (whatever that is) and what Im pretty sure are damnation scary spiritual things that a Bondsmith could do. Not to mention the potential for all kinds of unique resonances. The other question I have is which Version of the surges they'd get? Even setting aside the potential Inverted Surges of Voidbinding, Bondsmiths and Stonewards use Tension differently, so I wonder what manifest differences might come. If I had to guess on a new bearer purely based on narrative potential, I'd look to Mrall: he has the ability/Authority to put Mr.T in a metaphoric (maybe literal) box, a fact that I fully expect will be exploited at some point. He's a linchpin...
  21. Proof that Highspren are not stupid Seriously, if he drains the Investiture of the wielder to the point of killing them, I have to assume that same process would extend to a Living Investiture Symbiote bonded to a radiant's spiritweb. Lift might be able to work up a bit more of a buffer if she started pounding bacon-cheeseburgers for every meal, but that's about it.
  22. I definitely think he had bonded a spren, he even mentioned to Nightblood that once upon a time he heard a single voice like his. It could easily be the same spren, though Id also be pleased with him becoming an example of a person that went through large enough personal changes that he attracted a new type to fit a different Order.
  23. Can I say Fullborn? Because Id really like to be Fullborn...of the 5th heightening? The increased perception of the Heightenings are intensely attractive to me, the 5th gives you a nice immortality without the catches involved in Atium Compounding, and I suspect that Compounding Fortune would get you most of the Cosmic Awareness of the accomplished Worldhoppers. I wouldnt want to be Returned because of the need for a constant Investiture diet, wouldnt want to be location-locked by anything Selish, and I'd hesitant to commit to any of the Ideals without knowing more details.
  24. In all fairness, Szeth is specifically called out as being unusual, and per the normal (and very regimented) process described by Ki, a skybreaker would only bond their own spren at the 3rd Ideal (as we've been seeing with Bridge four, for that matter), while at the 2nd they are squires to an existing Skybreaker. Ki said that Nale had thought Szeth could skip straight to the 3rd Ideal (something they did not proceed with because Nale was gone and they didnt want to alter the process without his authority), so I suspect that was because Szeth had attracted the attention of a Highspren on his own. That was possibly what had brought him to Nale's attention in the first place. As a comparison, Teft had been interacting with his own spren prior to actually saying the Words. I tend to think that will be the normal order of things, as there'd have to be a spren present to "make the offer", so to speak.
  25. Lopen and Odium, do we really want Divine Wrath to become that incomprehensibly erratic? Jasnah and Ambition could be really Dangerous. Tonk Fah and Ruin, because he'd just Kill Everything....
