As far as transferring the warped bits of a spiritweb, we have examples of the Era2 Koloss and Royal Locks, both of which I think are confirmed to be reasonable targets of Hemalurgy (as is just about anything you can be born with). Also, for what it's worth, a quirk of Hemalurgy is that you never get Infections from the spikes, so there's some sort of insulation going on to protect you against mundane dangers.

That's not what I mean. Im not talking just about instances where Conversation of Mass is being violated (which absolutely happens in most magic systems). Im talking about creating an entirely original entity/object/person in the Physical Realm, with all the various bits (the Spiritweb, the Cognitive Bead, etc) being new and original. Soulcasting and forgery both can take something that exists and reconfigure it to something else, and various Healing processes can restore physical damage based on the existing Spiritual template, but the only example of truly New Things being created that I can think of are when the Shards (or Adonalsium) made planets. Though admittedly there's enough Diversity on Roshar that I wonder what exactly Cultivation has been up to historically.

hemalurgy Can Hemalurgy be Used in Other Worlds and on Anyone?
Quantus replied to IGetLIFTed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
They act like a realmic Gravity Well that crushes the three Realms together, facilitating the travel. Though there are smaller, non-shardic versions: Elsecallers are creating tiny ones, and there are theories that the Shades on Threnody are something similar. And then there's the Oathgates, that are weird in a few ways. -
The main one Im hoping to see is a true Conjuring, something that lets you create Matter whole from Investiture. What Id consider the closest things are Forgery and Soulcasting, and both are about modifying something that already exists in the Physical Realm, or maybe Shardblades where there's an existing Cognitive Entity that gets pulled into the Physical Realm via the Bond. But we know Wholly Original Creation has to be possible (technically) because it was used for Scadrial, so the real question is whether it's possible for Non-Shardic entities. Im hoping that it will prove possible in the sane way creating a Perpendicularity doesnt apparently require massive amounts of Shardic power, and can be done on a smaller scale (ie Elsecallers).

theory [OB] Adolin and Shallan will not last
Quantus replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
All I meant by "mundane neurochemcial thing" is that it is non-magical and is a type of depression experienced in the real world, as opposed to something with Investiture or Realmic effects involved the way Balat's issues or Szeth's Voices are. I also wasnt trying to say a Lightweaver would just "fix" him, just that they might help him find a better balance, or at least be on-hand to help shake him out of it when his struggles start to peak, the way Tien and Shallan both have, and which is implied to be a common sort of trait/role of Lightweavers in general. EDIT: I missed your post on the page break. That was it exactly, thanks. The WOB said it was chemical rather than magic, and that was the only meaning intended with my use of "mundane". I also agree with your assessment that Kaladin will likely never be fully "fixed" or cured or what-have-you of his depression, and I suspect Kaladin has mostly come to that same conclusion based on his conversation with Teft about how becoming Radiant isnt going ot magically make the depression or addiction go away. -
Fair point, Id forgotten about Vin's mother entirely. Still, I dont think Ruin could communicate with anyone who was Snapped into being a Misting or Mistborn, so I dont think being cracked enough to be a Radiant is broken enough to let the shard influence them, I think there's a higher threshold. My impression regarding Sadeas's men was that it had a lot to do with the fact that they'd all been heavily exposed to the Thrill, but that's could be a similar thing, especially since becoming Radiant seemed to prevent the Thrill
-
Talking about this one? I think I see what you are getting at, though I think it's going to be a little more specific than that. There's a finite number of working Bindpoints, even when you take the options from being a Mistborn and using an Atium spike out of the equation, so you'd still have to hit one of them correctly, and I suspect not all of them are going to be compatible with Aluminum. Still, I agree that Aluminum is indeed a very dangerous thing in the Cosmere. The real question I have is what the limitations of "Any Power" are...does that include non-Scadrial Powers? Could it kill a Returned? An Elantrian? Destroy a Radiant's Bond?
-
Certainly possible, though in the case of Ruin it was specifically from the damage left by a hemalurgic spike (and only while the spike was implanted) whereas the Soul-cracks used by spren in the Nahel bond are the roshar equivalent to the cracks from Snapping, which werent enough to let Ruin in.

What WOB are you referring to? There are several that specifically say that the placement is critical, and that knowing the points is a lot of the difficulty.

There's a WOB that some of the issues haunting House Davar were "magically enhanced", are there any theories as to what that might be? I had a couple ideas come to mind, but Im curious what the prevailing theory is: Dark equivalent of the "Spiritual Sustenance" ability/role of Lightweavers, as seen with how both Shallan and Tien were able to help Kaladin shake out of his depression episodes. Perhaps Shallan being in such a dark place literally rubbed off on her brothers, not relenting until she started consciously trying to shake them out of their respective funks. The Black Fisher was nearby. It doesnt really fit with the effects of Ashertmarn, but does a bit more with the rattle about the fisher that said "Let me no longer hurt! Let me no longer weep! Dai-gonarthis! The Black Fisher holds my sorrow and consumes it!" Makes me think the Black Fisher will have emotional effects specifically relating to Sorrows and/or the lessening of them, possibly at the cost of blood sacrifice. Thoughts?

theory [OB] Adolin and Shallan will not last
Quantus replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
Personally, I dont think Kaladin is really on the table anymore (even if 2/3 of Shallan are apparently still interested as of the end of OB). My interpretation of his talk with Syl at the end of OB is him realizing that his feelings toward her were the result of her having the same strange Emotional Support effect on him that Tien did when they were younger. He had been fascinated by her ability to bear similarly deep scars as him without falling into the depression Dark Place that has haunted him since he was younger and enjoyed being near another Lightweaver like Tien that had the uncanny ability to shake him out of it. That leaves me with the expectation that they will continue to get close (as I expect all of our leading Radiants to do) but that any actual Love that develops will be more along the lines of a Sibling sort of relationship, which could be very healthy for both of them from a mental stability perspective. That being said, since his Depression is a mundane Non-Magical neurochemcial thing, and two separate Lightweavers have been shown to help balance him (with a mention of how Lightweavers historically provided "spiritual sustenance" to the other Orders), absent a world with a proper understanding of neurochemistry and pharmaceuticals I certainly hope he ends up with a Lightweaver for his own sake. Shallan already has one Squire and will likely collect more, so maybe he'll have some social luck there... -
hemalurgy Can Hemalurgy be Used in Other Worlds and on Anyone?
Quantus replied to IGetLIFTed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The functions of Hemalurgy are Cosmere-wide, and unlike many other forms of investiture do not require specific Connections to a given planet and/or shard. It can be used to steal just about anything that is part of the Victim's Spiritweb, including things like the Nahel Bond of a Radiant, a Returned's Divine Breath (but not normal breaths), an Elantrian's upgrade, etc. There is even a WOB implying that it could be used directly on a Spren, though you'd have to spike their 'real' body in the Cognitive Realm. The biggest limitation is that Intent is Key to the process, you have to know the correct bind Points and actually Intend to create a Spike, you cannot accidentally do it while just trying to stab somebody. -
Haha, nice! My older brother introduced me to it, but he'd only seen the VHS box set his roommate had, and so was entirely unaware of the back half of the series. I recorded the final episodes for him when Toonami ran a marathon and blew his mind. Then bought him the movie for christmas

All Unsealed Medallions involve Connection in their creation at the very least (per the WOB I linked), and I strongly suspect that it's at least partly a Connection effect during use that is allowing the person to Connect to Preservation enough to power Allomancy without having the more permanent Connection that Lerasium provides.

I tend to agree with @Pathfinder that her actual uses wouldnt have taken a whole lot of training, especially given the various examples of unconscious Allomancy throughout. The other side of it is that (best we can tell, because they are capital "W" Weird) the function of the Bands (and medallions in general, which we also dont fully understand) rely on Feruchemcial Connection, and if Connecting to a location can grant you such traditionally Learned skills like a Language, I would not be surprised if they also granted a certain level of instinctual understanding, enough for basic use if not the complex things. And that's setting aside the possibility of a Fortune effect, which at least in the case of Atium is known to expand your mental capabilities enough to use it.

Known heralds and their locations

Ah, ok cool. It says "Care" on the Coppermind's herald page, but "Careful" on the Essences page, and it looks like that matches the Ars Arcanum entry in WoK -
Bah, You're right, I missed the x10 factor and calculating on the one lashing. They'd be more reasonable than I was giving them credit for. The general point I was focused on is that Rosharan Gravity itself is weaker, which makes Gravitation weaker by association. It may be more complicated than that for two reasons: First is that the Forms of Power seem to have a lot of options that are not readily availible to Radiant surgebinders, with Stormform's weaponization of Lightning being the most obvious so far, so while they may not be a direct equivalency there may be some balance and counter-balance to the arms race. Second is that I fully expect both "sides" of the coming conflict to end up with access to all the different means of Power (Fabrials, Surgebinders, AND singer Forms of Power) before it's all said and done. We already have humans and Singers on both sides, a radiant Singer with a Form of Power, and Surgebinders (even Heralds) siding with Odium, along with an Unmade willing to defect who would herself give access to the corrupted spren needed for the known Forms of Power (meaning she might give Team Honor Access to them). Agreed, purely kinetic weapons are going to be restricted to Artillery bombardment sorts of things and even they would benefit from more active warheads, though non-fabrial explosives might still be possible if they figure out the chemistry (which I get the feeling is not a particular advanced science on Roshar). Active warheads have the more social danger of harming the spren that would presumably need to be imprisoned in them to make it work (at least on the Radiant side, Big-O's forces may not care), but if not that would indeed be the ticket in my book. We havent really seen the full extent of many of the surges, though I expect Division at least lends itself to weaponization pretty well.

Known heralds and their locations

I could get behind that, as the inversion of Loving and Healing, and if she's present but not actually influencing the diagram it wouldnt run afoul of the WOB. Though Battar might also fit as the Inversion of Wisdom and Care, though I suppose a philosophic argument could be made on the difference between Care vs Caring. -
It's not that it's impossible to use gravitation, it's just that I believe it to be an inefficient use of the stormlight compared to the other options available. I agree that if you gave yourself enough time/distance, mass, and/or significantly increased number of lashings you can still do some decent damage (which is what I was referring to with the Orbital ballistics comment) but distance make s aiming very difficult, and both significantly increasing mass or lashings require significantly increased amounts of stormlight. Whereas Soulcasting just plain bypasses so very many physical restraints by convincing the spirit of an object to become something more useful and/or dangerous. It doesnt even have to always obey mass conservation which is presumably why you can soulcast a corpse into much denser materials without shrinking it. In your example I think you're numbers are off in a couple places, the ten lashings get you to 6.86 m/s^2 (since rosharan gravity is 0.7 G's) which gets you a traveled distance of 3.43 meters in 1 second, reaching a velocity of only 6.86 m/s. To hit a target at 50m would take ~3.8 seconds and reach 26.2 m/s discounting any drag effects, which isnt great even by bow standards, let alone firearms. Bows (at least modern compound bows from quick google search) typically hit the 70-90m/s firing velocity range. Side note, here is a great WOB on the feasibility of rosharan Nukes

So, near as I can see we have a WOB that Paliah has appeared as an Ardent in the Palinaeum, we have Mr.T's statement in the novels that he believes that Dova is Battar (and presumably figured it out on a Smart Day), and a currently unidentified theory that Mr.T's maid is Vedel. I dont know about the Vedel thing, but since there is nothing to say that Palaih is actually influencing Mr T rather than simply being present in his nation (in her Namesake location), Id say those two can both be accurate. -
If you mean the rep level, I doubt it as that's a pre-set list for everyone. Dont worry, it will change to something else soon enough. In fact, if I give you a bit of rep now, you should be only one away from Noble-Blooded EDIT: Ah, there you go. Nobility Achieved

No, you're right I was conflating Gamma radiation with the neutron decay that is often involved. In terms of Lightweaver beam weapons I was imagining things more on the order of cutting lasers.

Unintentional? I thought that was impossible, that the Intent was a critical part of the process.

Would Atium Be Able To Predict A Surgebinder?
Quantus replied to luluzulu's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Only if the Fortune effect and/or Surgebinder where also able to perceive the future during the interaction, that's where the interference comes from. It may or may not apply to Fortune via Feruchemy (depending on how that literately manifests). It's supposed to be specifically not part of the traditional Radiant capabilities. So far we only know of one such surgebinder, and I fully believe that is precisely why there is a large swath of Odium's expanded Diagram that it blacked out. -
