Why is Elendel Basin too cold for Southerners?
nervousnerd replied to DeadFencer's topic in Mistborn
Plus I thought the Lord Ruler wanted to keep them genetically pure as a back up if his changes of the northerners did not work. Wouldn't he not want them to have to change and adapt much? I had also assumed that Sazed used them as a basis of what to change in the survivors of the ash (to return them to normal from their skaa and nobel bloodlines) and therefore the southerners and northerners should have been genetically similar after the Final Ascension. -

I don't recall Rashek making them able to survive higher temperatures. He made them able to survive the ash and the poor sustenance from newly created plants. When Vin entered the Well of Ascension she says "a magnificent sphere upon which life could exist only in a small little area at the poles." All people on Scadrial live at the poles and apparently the ocean boiled at the equator. I assumed the south was tilted further from the sun and therefore received some protection from the temperatures without the need for ashmounts. -
Made me think of burning gold. You could see what you could have been if you made different choices. The shadow of what you could have been.

I have no problems with any of the links. -
And until we actually hear the story from his point of view it is impossible to say for sure. I can see why you believe that but I am not able to bring myself to agree. Perhaps I am the eternal optimist. That particular action may be the confirmation that he doesn't care who he hurts to achieve his goals but so far it seems like an outlier. That is why I think he knew Shai would get out alive.
-
Hmm, I suppose that means it could be used to allow access to most or all forms of magic (possibly acing to preserve that aspect of Adonalsium because all magic systems are actually related). On another note, I wonder if Harmonium is just an alloy of Atium and Lerasium or if it is completely its own metal.

And she has every right to hate him for that but did he know the good that she would end up doing? Yes, she could have been executed but I can't see him actually believing that would happen and letting it just to get the Scepter. He isn't omnipotent but he really seems to know what he is doing and the consequences of it.
-
Yeah. He either lies enough that nobody believes him when he tells the truth or vice versa. My problem with Hoid is that he is the only character who we have seen since the beginning. We haven't seen a lot of who he really is but we have seen a lot of what he has done. I'm not sure if I would like it to find out that he is not someone we should have been rooting for this whole time. He may say that he would let worlds burn in order to see his goals complete but his actions thus far have not shown this to be true. He has done things that may have seemed wrong on occasion but never really to the detriment of other people. I think the reason most people were surprised by his Secret Histories appearance is because this is the first time he appeared malicious physically (umm technically cognitively though) instread of verbally.

A question that I had is: why would you use an alloy of Lerasium if it only works to create a misting instead of creating a mistborn? Is there an advantage somehow, like does it allow you to use less of the Lerasium and therefore use one bead on multiple people?

Okay, I admit it; the Thrill confuses me.
nervousnerd replied to Quiver's topic in Stormlight Archive
That makes sense too I suppose seeing as the KR exist to oppose Odium and the Thrill is of Odium. -

Dalinar during the battles against the Parshendi loses the Thrill and begins to feel nauseous. Was that because he used a shardblade (screaming spren)? I've also read some posts that this is because it goes against his nature as a Bondsmith. Some other questions about this: Did the Knights Radiant in his visions give any indication that they get the Thrill? Does Kaladin get the Thrill? If so does he also experience this nausea? Could becoming a Radiant stop you from getting the Thrill? -
[Bands Spoilers] Will Wax's Sister Start Helping Him?
nervousnerd replied to mattig89ch's topic in Mistborn
Yeah but if "civilization here [is] too dangerous" then not needing "the Set to have its full hierarchy" could mean different things. It is possible that the members are all from Scadrial and that the civilization the Immortal is speaking of is Elendel and its neighbors. If they are not from Scadrial then it may mean not needing any on planet members anymore because they plan to destroy it. We don't know how big the Set is or who controls them. Which of these is true will determine what the other members decide to do. -
Correct me if I am wrong but the Mistborn sci-fi series is set to be released before The Liar of Partinel. How do you think it will affect our understanding of Hoid to have him as a main character in Mistborn Era 4 before his origin story (in Liar or Dragonsteel)? Will he have to explain himself (to either us or the other characters)? Will we be able to understand his motives any better? Will he be as confusing as ever?

I didn't know there were any done already besides the original Mistborn trilogy and Elantris. Can't wait until the Wax and Wayne ones are finished. -
[Bands Spoilers] Will Wax's Sister Start Helping Him?
nervousnerd replied to mattig89ch's topic in Mistborn
I wonder what the Set think happened to Suit. If they figure it out, I'm sure they'll rethink who they are working for but otherwise they have been offered enough to keep them helping. Wax will never trust his sister but I'm not sure what will happen between them with the world apparently on the line. -
Yeah he is definitely a savant in my opinion. His steel bubble ability is likely the result of this (or if not then his ability to exempt certain objects from it is). The only difference is that steel seems to have no real side effects for savants (that we have seen). I don't think savants have to continually used their metal at all times to remain a savant, they just have to have flared it often enough to cause some sort of change in their body.
-
Perhaps I am confused then. But Duralumin and Chromium have always seemed odd to me compared to the other feruchemical powers. All of other power sets affect something you possess that you can store to affect your own mind or body at a later time. Those two on the other hand seem to affect how people or the environment react to you. Maybe once we learn more about them I'll understand better.

I mentioned this in another thread but really want to confirm it. Am I the only one who thinks Wayne's rough's nickname is Kid Wayne? It hasn't really been mentioned here from my searches. Upon their first meeting MeLaan says "I had no idea that Kid Wayne was so talented with beer-mat sculptures." (Capitalization and all). And she called Wax his nickname instead of his actual name. It also makes sense because he was only a kid when he first started following Wax around and they were making a name for themselves. What do you think?
-
I really don't see Elend having an unknown child. Also, if there were a kid of his it would be a well known fact (What with Douglas taking the name Venture}. Zane on the other hand could have had a kid because he was with Amaranta (Not sure for how long) and possibly others. Also unlikely though because Straff would probably have noticed Amaranta having a baby.
-
Maybe but that was a direct quote with capitalization and all.
-
I think it was Kid Wayne. Not sure if it was mentioned before that.

Yeah. I was rereading and that is what made me think about this. Wax says "Coinshots like himself were relatively rare" but what is rare in a population of 5 million (in the city)? Perhaps the police and cab companies using coinshots as scouts is a more recent thing but there are at least a few hundred or maybe even one thousand going around all of the time (any hard statistics around to confirm population figures?). Metalborn seem to be valued in the post-Catacendre world for actual jobs that use their skills instead of just soldiers and assassins. Also, Vin said she made the trip from Fellise to Luthadel twice as fast as a man on horse. That might not be as fast as a car is capable of going but cars mean traffic. To me, coinshots could be as useful as the telephone. This to me says that putting cheap scrap metal under the main thoroughfares at least would be valuable for speed and limiting property damage. At the best it could be a primitive form of email.
-
So, remind me if I missed it but do coinshots in Elendel mainly use lamp posts and the such for moving around? That doesn't seem like the best idea for a city that uses them as messengers and scouts (Train tracks do not seem to cross the city but go around it). Are there so few that they don't worry about that? Why is it that there are no major spikeways like Vin and Kelsier used to move back and forth to Fellise? Wouldn't it be faster to have a couple of those?
-
I assumed Dawnshot referred to him being a quick shot. Dawn being first of the day. The nicknames make sense because history repeats. Seems all of Kelsiers Crew got cool nicknames after the Final Ascension. Anyone else of distinction ends up with one.
-
I'm not sure. I suppose it is possible with it being not connected to any one person. In my mind though, a feruchemical ability only afffects the one who is storing or using it up though. This could certainly work to make Allik more trusting towards the others but not the other way around. The others trusting him may have mainly been because the enemy of my enemy ...
