There was a WoB a bit ago as an answer to a question about Jasnah's sexuality. (Minor Demoux spoilers on the click-through.) More clarification on Jasnah here, though it's not a direct quote.

Boom. That was fast.

Interesting. I would have made it four people, since Macbeth wouldn't have done anything without his wife. A soldier is unaware that he is fighting while training with a man who should be dead.

Random Stuff VIII: The Admin Special
Curiosity replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
This is how I would do it, though I haven't used an online pic for a while, so take it with a pinch of salt. Find your image. Right-click and choose "Copy Image Adress". Paste in the box and crop to your desire.- 1963 replies

I am a big fan of the Rithmatist, not as much the Reckoners (so much gun talk, and I called one of the major twists of the first book halfway through it). However, compared to a lot of other typical YA books, they have good characters and consistent worldbuilding. Alcatraz is not typical Brandon Sanderson. But it's so much fun. Fourth-wall breaks, snarky commentary about the nature of books, and (a few) really bad jokes. What do you expect from a book about a cult of evil librarians who rule the world? (Yes, the magic is very much Sanderson, but I like that.) Edit: Forgot Legion. It's a different kind of story. Think PI with science fiction, and you're halfway there. The character humor here is great, but there's too many questions about the main character's condition left unanswered for me to be very satisfied with these stories yet. I'm waiting for the third one to come out eventually, and then I'll be able to form a better opinion. There's other stuff, which is pretty good, but these are the few that come to mind that I would recommend first.

Looking for Help Developing a Magic System
Curiosity replied to Calmseer's topic in Creator's Corner
Not exactly magic, but Leviathan gives a pretty interesting take on this in an alternate WWI. I'd recommend it. Will comment more if time allows. -
Thanks for the extremely thorough report!

Currently making my way through Foundation and enjoying it. Each novel convinces me that Asimov never really left short stories behind. I like the serialized nature of the novels, though. I would like to know what people's opinion of L. E. Modesitt Jr.'s works (content level, where one would start, etc.). The lastest Writing Excuses episode is fantastically interesting because of him and I'd like to check him out.

What would you want to be?
Curiosity replied to The_Dark_Fungi's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Hmmm... Oculator. Glasses already look cool (even if there is an Inverse-Coolness principle). I'll hold judgement on the Surgebinders until we see all of the Surges in action. (But I still really want a Pattern...) -
That would be Bangladesh. After that many hints, it's difficult not to guess it. Delightful, take it away.

I know that it's been a few years and we're dealing with the ever flexible youth, but where are the Luddites? The wizards and witches mistrustful of webs, USB drives, and Cells of Galvanus? How are the Professors reacting? How in the world does the Ministry enforce the Statute of Secrecy with web anonymity? What is happening to the library and the restricted books on "Magik Most Evile"? Are there charms that interact with computers? A debugging charm, perhaps? When does Albus get to come? Why didn't anyone notice the Boy who lived sending off his kids? Is Teddy still there? Would the Room of Requirement turn into a room with walls full of electric plugs? Do Memory charms work on computers? "Rats, I accidentally downloaded a virus. Obliviate!" What kinds of spam do people get? Transfiguration is going to be pretty tricky for the Muggle pretender, right? Wait, how did she even learn about Hogwarts? Has the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets been turned into a theme park attraction or a hazing technique yet? Does geolocation even work in Hogwarts? How does the Marauder's Map handle that, anyways? Professor McGonagall, first day of class: "Accio cell phones!" Edit: Wait, can you use the Confundus charm to hack stuff? There must be some magical firewalls we can work up, right?

These are my favorite games to play with my brothers. We're halfway (?) through the fourth one right now, though everyone being off at school makes it difficult.

That could have been really cool. I think that this specific thread has been the best part of the show. It is honestly the only thing that makes me decided to watch. *hears something happens with Captain Cold this week* "Eh, I guess I'll watch another episode." The techno-babble there was slightly frustrating. DNA is nice and all, but you need a lot more information to perfectly recreate someone's hand.

Which one do you find more crunchy and delicious: Introductory Calculus or Introductory Linear Algebra? (I'm still trying to decide for myself...)

You can now view new colors, but cannot see any of the original colors that you were previously able to see. This is not harmful, and therefore not negative. I wish to have all of the powers of the genie without having any of the responsibilities, restrictions, or problems that come along with being the genie.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! It's just something I've been toying with, wanted to see what people thought would be most cool and if there were other ways to make variations. It had occurred to me that I could put all of the ideas together, but it sounded sort of messy. But I like the way you strung them together, Dream Eternal. Now it's time to work on character and specific conflict...

Ok, I need a cool conflict for this idea. I'm very open to changes to the idea, but I feel like there are a thousand different directions that I could go from here. A country's top secret military intelligence branch has opened a hole in our universe and can observe other universes very similar to ours. They have figured out how to "nudge" these worlds and observe the effects so they can finally make sense of chaotic systems, like weather and global economies. Rigorous, repeatable experiments can finally be enacted without messing up our world so we can enact reasonable and effective policy to better ours. Twenty-five golden years of using these hundreds of secret "guinea pig worlds" has solved climate change, provided vigorous economic growth, and shut down international conflict with minimal casualties. The nation now leads the world and the party in power holds unprecedented respect and power. But...
