Re: Jim Parsons as Pattern I'm curious; did you actually want him to voice Pattern, or were you casting Sheldon Cooper as Pattern? I understand the "I don't get humanity" kind of a vibe that gives, but I would probably be a little more open-minded as to who would be in the role. Honestly, I'm not sure who would do a good job, but I've always imagined Pattern's voice as a cross between Mac automated speech and pseudo-Dalek buzzing. Intonation would probably be variable between natural and odd, since he's a spren. Has anyone considered Clancy Brown for Dalinar? I think he's got the general look right. Perhaps I've only seen him in military roles, but I think he might be able to pull it off.

Brandon Sanderson: "Shadows of Self" | Talks at Google

Did he say that they were aiming for a November release of Oathbringer? That's a month earlier than I last heard. -
There happens to be an encyclopedic record of this here.

I have roommates who are chemical engineer majors. I sat by them working through what I think was group theory for a P-chem class. I wanted to learn what in the world that was, but I had biology and math of my own to do. But I learned a beautiful proof for integrating e^(-x^2) over all real numbers. And they told me never to try in high school. Hah. (Yes, I'm aware that there is no antiderivative in closed form involving only elementary functions. But this proof is beautiful.) I'll post it later if I have time.

Most Overrated and Most Underrated Sanderson Story
Curiosity replied to Moash's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Completely agreed. On this site, it is easy to see that there is a core of people that LOVE the Reckoners, which is not a problem. However, just in terms of advocating a balanced view, The Rithmatist is my favorite of the non-Cosmere novels, followed closely by the ridiculous adventures of Alcatraz. Rutabaga. The Cosmere gets the most hype, closely followed by the Reckoners. Honestly, I'm not sure about Shadows of Self yet. I understand the story and appreciate it, but I suppose I was expecting something with a little more world-changing consequences, not simply the struggles of one man as the city burned. (This is my current gut feeling, not actually what I intellectually assent to as having happened during the story.) I may appreciate the end of this trilogy more than the beginning, in contrast with Era 1. (See Blaze's note above.) -
Pattern Pumpkin! Though, now that I say that, I realize that it's probably pretty tricky.

Ok, I think that Obliteration is more marginally more interesting right now that Nightblood. Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I just want to see what happens in the next books in the series before deciding. This one is trickily close.
