  1. My idea was that Squires being able to use Stormlight was the "strength" part of the Resonance. Numbers was fairly self-explanatory, but what else could stronger squires imply? Just so y'all get where I was going with it
  2. 1. A question I have never considered and don't have an answer for. Good job on that 2. Leras forced the power of Ruin to manifest as Atium on its own, while Leras didn't decide to use his power to make much Lerasium. 3. For the same reason Lerasium can be burned by everybody but Atium can't: God Metals don't work in the same ways as everything else. 4. Preservation set up his own power to auto-counter anything Ruin tried to do, and letting the power go was symbolically opening his cell. Using the power was kind of like throwing away the key for a while. Brandon has said that if nobody touched the power at all, Ruin would gain greater influence, but not be free, so I'm not 100% sure of my answer. 5. Used as in "take up the power" like Vin/TLR did? We don't know if Leras did something to allow them to do that or if it is naturally like that. The Pool in Elantris hasn't been taken up by anybody as far as we know, so... If you mean "Used" in another way please clarify. 6. The Power returns to the Shard after it is burned for both Metals. 7. Ruin would have to absorb it himself. As for how it benefitted him, the power should return to him after being burnt, but Leras diverted that power back to the Pits, so by other people burning it, they denied him a big chunk of his essence, his power, until it regrew. He wasn't "letting it grow," Leras forcibly made Atium grow by separating that chunk of Ruin's power from him. He could've killed off everyone on Scadrial at the end of HoA, but he'd still be at half strength for the next 300 yrs till the Atium regrew so he can reconnect with his power. This explanation really makes me think about how cruel Ruin's punishment actually was. He got split into two parts, his mind was locked away in a prison that countered everything he did, his body was forcibly turned into Atium, and he could only try to escape once every 1,000 years.
  3. I believe there was a WoB that Bondsmiths historically didn't have Shardblades, but I'm at a loss to find it at the moment
  4. Here. (This is a very specific portion of a very large text-laden post, so fair warning if you click the link) Also, it's on the Coppermind page for the Unmade, so you should have seen it (Although it's not sourced and hardly mentioned on Odium's page...)
  5. No worries, just felt odd having to source your post on page 1(while listening to the video in the background), rather than a proper WoB.
  6. Per the Coppermind Page for AonDor: So I would say yes to Linchpin Aon, and more than likely via certain conditions. (Someone mentioned Raoden setting activation modifiers ages ago and that became the basis for my Q2 of prior post) People seem to believe that the Aon Ashe plates inscribed into Elantris already fit the bill for this, and given the fact that the city seemed to regain it's glow once Raoden added the Chasm line... Additionally, per the Coppermind Page again: "to specify certain traits, like how long a column of fire from an Aon Ehe will last.." and given the fact that we know they used that specific Aon to make "lamps that would continue to burn no matter what," I would also say yes to this line of thought. I will accept that we should still ask for confirmation, but I see no reason why you couldn't just specify a very long duration Essentially what my Aon Nae Magnifying Glass and Aon Edo Shield are indirectly asking, but props for bluntness This was brought up to me from the Warsaw Interview about my Q1. Source, with bold added (can't find a transcript, but there's a YT video on page 6) I would say it's within the realm of possibility, since you can make a programming language from it. Not an answer, but I discarded asking about an Aon Daa "missile bay" b/c I thought it was too out there, and then you go and do this
  7. So.. is there actually a transcript for the video Oversleep posted on Page 6? Most of the links I saw in this thread were specifically Krakow, and not Warsaw. Edit: I watched the video, but sourcing WoB's is easier with a transcript
  8. AonDor Questions Part 2: Because I got involved in something.. again and have even more questions. Do Aons absolutely require the physical touch of an Elantrian to activate, in every circumstance, with no exceptions? Can modifiers be set to change what activates the effect of an Aon? (assume Aons are inscribed onto metal plates) If yes, what sort of things can/can't be used to activate an Aon? Specific Examples: heat, light, a code-phrase, moving the plate in a specific pattern Assuming any of those work, can we get a general idea of how complex that would be to pull off? Assuming any of those work, could those be done by a non-Elantrian? (code-phrase, I'm looking at you..) Can you teleport a moving object with Aon Tia? Would the explosive energy of a bomb count as "object" enough to work? Could you teleport another Aon with Aon Tia? For example, an Aon Daa projectile that is being launched towards something? What effect would that have on the Aon? Would it instantly weaken now that it is away from Elantris or would it slowly diminish? If Raoden had tried to teleport a vastly longer distance away from Teod, would he still have traveled the.. 20 feet that he did or would he have gone further? Does the power weakening away from Elantris follow any sort of mathematical equation? If Aon Nae were used to replace the glass of a magnifying glass, would an Elantrian still be needed to shift the Aon around or would moving the object suffice? Can Aons that move, like the Aon Daa projectile, be given speed modifiers affecting how fast they travel? Could Aon Edo be repurposed as a personal shield, like past era warriors would carry? How heavy would it be in comparison? Would an energy barrier like Aon Edo prevent something from passing through it from both sides? IE: not like Droideka shields in Star Wars Aons with Surge names in their meanings have similar powers: Tia - Transportation, Shao - Transformation, Ashe - Illumination. Is this hinting the effects of the other two? Are - Cohesion, Ata - Smoothness(Slicking comparison?) Is there an Aon in the Elantrian arsenal that could replicate Spanreeds? (Not counting Seons here) Per Coppermind: You can specify how long the fire from Aon Ehe will last, and you can modify the power levels of Aon effects. Can you effectively turn Aon Ashe into a flash grenade by specifying high intensity, low duration light?
  9. We have actually: Shardblades. Combine this with the WoB that Shardblades appear to have to be metal....
  10. Heralds don't get squires. Which screwed over Jezrien, since he'd have the Windrunner Resonance of numerous, powerful squires. I also don't think the other Orders had Stormlight-powered Squires, but that's my opinion/head-canon.
  11. Answers: 1. Hoid's goal is his own business (No WoBs that I remember) 2. Splintered Shards are mostly Cognitive, so I can see characters who go there eventually figuring out how to reverse it. (I have absolutely no idea how they would unsplinter a Shard, but oh well) 3. The WoB Iron Eyes linked shows that Splintering is a small scale Shattering, so I can see a large scale un-shattering happen in the future. Points of Contention: 1. The Beyond is not the Spiritual Realm. The Spiritual Realm is where Investiture and living Shards reside, the Beyond is the point of no return afterlife. 2. Non-Shard Individuals can't physically go to the Spiritual Realm as far as we know. It's... Not what you would expect, and the character who got a glimpse into it during Mistborn SH nearly burnt up in the process.
  12. If only I had that kind of talent. I'm just another random Shardgoer who enjoys his books and remembers obscure details too well sometimes
  13. Brandon has said that if you spiked out Mile's F-Gold, he would still have his A-Gold if he survived. It stands to reason that you could spike out that A-Gold as well. Oh wait. You're saying it like A-Powers are in a separate area of the Spiritweb from F-Powers, and taking one A-Power from a Mistborn would break the A-Powers area too much to spike out another one? I.. could see that. Have we asked if a Mistborn would still have their other powers if they got one spiked out and lived? Because that answer could become central to this discussion. Even ask the question twice, to clarify if there's any difference between using an Atium spike and a Non-Atium Spike.
  14. As for a Shard of Creation, it's unlikely. Adonalsium's Intent was "to create life" and we have WoB that all of the Shards have a secondary Intent to create. That said, other Godly Attributes are still a good starting point.
  15. Pagerunner's WoB says that they might have stolen enough Identity to use the second person's Metalminds though..
  16. I imagine that just like Allomancy, they have to be actively storing/tapping to be detected, and Feruchemy uses much less Investiture than Allomancy does. Vin could "hear" the Mist Spirit because of the sheer amount of power, so the sheer lack of power should make the bronze pulses very quiet by comparison. I'll bring up Marsh and his resistance against Ruin as support for the Determination idea. His high mental fortitude is one of the reasons why Ruin gave him so many spikes to begin with, to give himself more control. Can we actually "store ability to use a power in F-Nicrosil" outside of the MAG? If not, people will debate the canonocity of that statement (I don't care, I just can't find anything saying you can do that) Brandon has said that there's "not much" you can do with compounding Aluminum, and I personally think you can't really do it at all. But until I check the actual wording of the WoB, it's in the air. Anyways, I'd probably use A-Zinc and F-Tin. I'm fascinated with the potential "other senses" that could be stored and practical applications of said storage. If I end up in a tight spot, I can riot fear and/or complacency as necessary.
  17. If need be the question could be rewritten. For this example I'll use the Survivor's Spearhead: If each "banded bit of metal" was turned into a H-Spike before the Survivor put them all together, and then crafted it into the shape of a spike... Would this method actually work and would it consider itself as one spike or many? (And throw in "Can a bind point accept more than one spike at once?" if need be) Then we could resume my post with the "Could such a spike grant multiple powers at once/at all?" question. We know Atium can steal all of the powers, so I feel like it takes them all at once but only grants one specific to the bind point it is placed in. This makes me think that stealing multiple powers at once would work, assuming the banded spike will function.
  18. Well, Identity is a Spiritual Attribute yes? And the Spiritual Realm seems to be full of connections. Is it too much to assume that your Identity, the "who you are" trait, is comprised entirely of connections? Your interactions with people and events can fundamentally change who you are as a person in real life, so I can see your past connections to people and events shaping your Identity in the Cosmere. And an H-Spike steals a bit of your soul, a bit of "who you are", when it steals your power, and grafts it onto someone else. Disclaimer: This is personal head-canon, and should not be taken as absolute fact at this time. As for Metalminds, they consider themselves as "Belonging to You." By grafting that spike in, I may be considered "you" enough to use them, but you are still considered "you" enough to compound them.
  19. Dang, there goes that theory. Guess I'm just thinking of Stormlight too much since I'm waiting on November lol While it is more than likely that the gems originated on Scadrial in a mine somewhere, that doesn't mean that gems aren't what is being traded across worlds. It's the crystal structure that lets them hold Stormlight, not the planet of origin. I don't really have a reason for why they would trade gems to Roshar, but its possible.
  20. I think you have cleverly avoided the "Boon/Bane Game" thread and as such you don't have preconceptions built subconsciously around things in there.
  21. Alright, here's my new and improved wording. (which is nearly a different question at this point) When did the Heralds start going insane in relation to breaking the Oathpact and Honor's death? Before Oathpact Break: Was it a result of the recurring torture they endured? Soon After Oathpact Break: Was it caused in some way by them abandoning the Pact? Long after Pact, but before Honor Died: What caused them to start going insane? After Honor's Death: Was it caused in some way by his death? Given that they could draw Investiture directly from Honor in the past, could they sense his death in any way through that connection? Along with a selection of Hemalurgy and Feruchemy questions that I haven't asked before. Hemalurgy: Can a spike be made of multiple metals in different "bands" like the Survivor's Spearhead? Would such a spike be able to steal multiple powers at once in the different metals? Could such a spike grant multiple powers based on what bind point you place it in? Provided you found the right bind point, could that spike grant multiple powers at once? Feruchemy: The sense of sight can be considered as two senses: Rods(Brightness) and Cones(Color). Once Scadrial's scientific & biological understanding reaches that point, could a skilled Feruchemist store their sense of color on its own? If so, could a Compounder replicate the perfect color recognition granted by the Third Heightening? How does tapping Hearing actually work/differ from the boosted hearing granted by A-Tin? Could a Ferring/Compounder replicate the perfect pitch granted by the Second Heightening? Despite it being very weak, humans do have magnetoreception(detecting magnetic fields). Could a skilled Feruchemist store this sense once they know it exists, and what effects would tapping that sense have? Assuming you can store your pain sense (Nociception), would tapping make you more susceptible to feeling pain or would you actually feel pain? (Fairly sure we know the answer, but just to be sure) Can you store "how to breathe" in a Coppermind or are unconscious actions like that protected from forgetting how to do them? Putting Feruchemical Powers in RPG terms, Zinc & Copper would increase Wis/Int, Pewter would increase Str, etc.. What powers would increase your Charisma stat? Duralumin, Chromium, a combo, some other powers? (This is me trying to indirectly understand how they might work)
  22. You can teleport items/people with you, but I don't think they can just "accio" the Honorblade to them the way you are thinking. They should have to go and get it, and then they could teleport back with it. Congrats on 200, now just gotta hit the big 1K like I did
  23. We know for a fact that the Windrunner Resonance is "Strength and Number of Squires" and I believe Brandon confirmed that Lightweaver's "enhanced mnemonic abilities" was their Resonance. We don't know the Resonances for the other Orders, but we hardly know anything about the other Orders either. Regarding your edit: The thing is, we do know that the Heralds get the exact same Resonance as their KR Order. And as the main similarity between them is they have the same powers, a Spike-made Surgebinder should also get the same Resonance. As for Resonances themselves: Brandon describes them as "things that do not add up from simple the "you get this power plus this power," there is something else going on." 2 Years later, he says that "they have kind of effects on each other, like a reverberation. I wouldn’t call it expressly a third power, I’d call it interactions." Both of these responses are in regards to the KR and their Surge interactions, so consider these as you wish.
  24. Here No Savanthood confirmation, but..
  25. Ah. I thought you took "Allomantically viable" to be a term specifically for Allomancy. My bad for misunderstanding what you originally meant. Also, semi-relevant WoB's to the original subject: Here and Here Neither Nightblood or Shardblades could be used as Hemalurgic Spikes because they are already "full" of Investiture. Burning Nightblood(assuming you can) would be like burning someone's Metalmind. Taken together, they imply that you might not be able to access the power they contain when you burn them. You would still use the Allomantic ability the metal grants, but only enough of the metal to make a sword, without the extra power within. His Metalmind comparison combined with them being "full" implies that you might not be able to store in them with Feruchemy because there is no space to put the attribute you store.
