It's really only exlo if we're about to lynch the last inner circle member, and arguably that's just zugzwang for the Village either way - if they claim, they get NKed so nothing is gained by claiming. Not claiming probably damns them to death, but is the better path to try to negotiate. Of course, on the IKYK layer, this might mean the Elim team just ends up NKing them anyway thinking they're IC trying to pretend not to be IC since theoretically losing a regular Villager is not as directly awful as in a regular game. Either way, we have no way of really knowing how close we are to exlo for that very obvious reason and I'm not ready to begin to contemplate that situation on C1. It's a distraction from the task at hand. ...Anyone interested in more pazaak?

Wow, you only want to know good things? I'm going to hold on to that for the moment. I expect to see it play out eventually but don't feel much is gained from pre-empting it. Probably the opposite in fact.

It would be but I can think of one or two scenarios where it's worthwhile to do so, e.g. Hal. Danex.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Three to four players likely. Here's the thing: killing normal players doesn't directly affect their wincon, but it does help them gain vote supremacy. If it's too easy for Elims to get vote supremacy, then we have a problem because the lynch effectively becomes a secondary kill for them, which is still bad given their wincon. I can see some leeway here but I don't see too much room to be exotic. Similar considerations when I was looking at possible distros for MR61. Other issue is: their wincon means they can win prior to outnumbering, but if we're in a world where they outnumber us, we are in trouble anyway because there is nothing we can do if we can't control the lynch! So I am not really sure the wincon affects it too much. No because if someone is blatantly wrong about it, the Elims get to draw inferences I'm not interested in helping them. Eh. Not sure it really matters either way. I'm not down for lynching Aman or Fifth today.

As the AG is coming: Go Village! You can do this

Be down for that if you are. Just leave gaps for the others to come in if they want to? I mean, let's be real, no reason they can't just be very chaotic in running the group pazaak because of people dropping in and out.

Curious if you want to start another game and just assume it's ambiguous between me/Wiz/Xino until Xino gets back? Pazaak is won in sets of three anyway so I don't think it substantively matters since you've gone bust. I am still writing Pazaak code but the main ambitious part won't be ready for this game, as tempting as it is to spend the first few cycles of the QF fiddling with code I know you mentioned you've got a busy day though so maybe not enough time to pragmatically just do another game before sign-ups end :eyes:

Damn, that Croatia-Morocco slugfest started good and then looked brutal. Feelsbad for Morocco and also feelsbad for Modric since I think this is his last tournament, but by definition, a lot of players will leave unsatisfied...

In short, it's preferable if you run a modification off the base MR or LG format than the BT. Given the recent amount of requests that regard the BT as the format for anything remotely experimental (not really), I've put in a request to have the rule further clarified going forwards.

"You don't need to unplay cards you've never played," said Illvin. "Time was, you ran out of cards in your hand and then folded for want of them." "Some friend," Illvin said. "If that takes you to Starsight, friend." He watched as Hal chose to continue. Made sense, at fifteen. Same for the fellow who'd just joined them. He and the other were standing at nineteen, though he fancied their odds of hitting the fully twenty, more. Game was long though, and with three games to go, Illvin wasn't keen on playing his hand out just yet.

Illvin groaned as he flipped over the six. Not the worst, he supposed, but it felt as though luck had turned fickle. He thought of throwing one of his side deck but hesitated. Best to save the cards for later, if he needed it. Hal. Just passing through. Lots of people did in Starsight each day. Kept him in a job, at any rate. "Nothing much. What brings you back to this slice of paradise?" [OOC: Apologies to impose M'Hael, any chance you can edit the count for me? Formatting is awful on mobile or I'd just c/p my set up now.]

"I'm not minded, either," Illvin replied. The man in the splendid long coat was shuffling his cards, dealing himself in, and some of the others were interested. The more the merrier, Illvin figured. [OOC: Hael and I were discussing pre-game how to run this, I'm using the same side-deck because I haven't yet slept, and I don't want to accidentally power game this the way you can in KOTOR/KOTOR 2.] He drew from his side-deck, fanned the cards out, and did his best to keep his face impassive. ("Face like an open deck," the granny had chortled, which Illvin thought was rather unfair. It wasn't like he played all his cards face-up unless it was pazaak and he had to.) [OOC: For accountability as well, these are my four cards: Half-tempted to mock-up Pazaak card images here, but nevermind >>] His turn. The stranger had drawn a 1. A decent enough start, if slow. Perhaps luck was about to show him some mercy. "So, who are you anyway? I never forget a face, and I feel like I've seen a face like yours around a couple of times," he drawled, and turned over his chosen card. Lucky seven it was. "Your turn." Or perhaps the fellow who wanted to join in was going to go. [OOC: Hael, damnit, the pazaak theme is already playing in my head :joy: ]

I really like and support Croatia and I'd probably be happy no matter which of them wins the third place match, but yeah, my heart is with Morocco this time

Probably the best paper since the parachute RCT back and forth.

This is an important paper that raises important questions; it demands further study.

More minor drop, as @|TJ| and I were looking a little into something said during MR57, about the Village having a tendency to lose when an Elim is exed D1. Thoughts: As @Fifth Scholar pointed out, the Elim 48% win rate is already surprising: normally you'd sort of expect the Elim team to be on the back foot but it's very nearly 50/50 here, even after subtracting the confounding games like MR38 from this. Village win rate is less surprising, given what we already know of Village performance. I'd be very hesitant to take this as anything powerfully causal, but the numbers are still interesting. 100+ games for the green doughnut chart, and 27 games for the red doughnut chart. Also suggestive of how often a Elim gets D1ed in the first place.

Let me edit this. Good time to admit I have forgotten everything of Starsight, hence pazaak.

"We could play group pazaak," Illvin drawled. He knew the feeling, lurking around, looking in. Pazaak was pretty addictive after all. Knew a granny down the block who beat him at it hands down each time, over lunch break. He figured he'd learn her tricks one day. "DPS rules, even." 'Course, that meant making it up as you go along, with a handy amount of table shuffling and carefully curated exclamations, but he wasn't sure everyone needed to know that.
