Neutral ideas for what I want from the next book(s)
Pathfinder replied to Sedside's topic in Stormlight Archive
And you are totally entitled to your opinion. Personally I do not think that is the case as Jasnah and Dalinar respect each other too much and have worked together numerous times in the past without conflict. I do not see them having such an issue going forward, but if you think the conflict could occur, then I wish you luck with your theory. Thing is, Odium does not need Taravangian to be honest with him to know Shallan is a lightweaver. As I said the fused in the cognitive realm saw her do her thing, and a whole lot of fused, and sadeas's men saw her do her thing in the physical realm while Odium was present. The fused even realized what Shallan was doing enough to organize Sadeas's men to gather by a wall, and anytime a figure would approach them, to test it for whether it was real or an illusion. That way they began wearing the illusions down and started to counter them. So based on that alone, how could Odium not know? It literally happened right in front of him, and a large portion of his troops saw proof of it. -
I disagree, but I did ask how you felt on the matter, and I respect your personal views. Thing is do we have a means to make hemalurgy painless? Do we know a physical means of anesthetizing would also numb the feeling of getting your spiritweb torn out? We have never seen the PoV of someone getting something spiked out of them. I do not feel Organ Donation can be considered analogous as you can actually prevent the person from experiencing the horrible and painful procedure, while I do not think the same can be said of hemalurgy. Even if I give you that anesthesia could deaden the feelings of even having your spiritweb torn asunder (which I do not think is the case), when the person ends up in the cognitive realm before transition into the beyond, they are still all torn up and in pain. True they go faster than most people, but that does not change their state of being in the cognitive realm. Do you know of any means that could anesthetize that? Because to the best recollection of book and WoB, there is not. I go back to the last WoB I posted "when you're spiking somebody, you're ripping of the soul, so kind of, there's not enough left to talk. I mean, you're ripping off enough of the soul, so it's a bad thing. It's a very bad thing. So you go "Who killed you?" and it's just somebody who is essentially-- But yes, they would go faster too." I could not see Brandon making a point to say what is left in the cognitive realm is a bad thing, a very bad thing if the person it was done to didn't feel any pain or was not horribly "disfigured" in the cognitive sense. For me, till that issue can be resolved, I cannot consider any form of hemalurgy that causes that ethical. It does not matter if the person signs off on it. We are not talking euthanasia where the person drifts off and doesn't wake up. We are talking about a procedure that to me, no matter how you anesthetize the body, the cognitive self still ends up like someone waking up in a bathtub without a kidney (to use your own example).

So I will tailor my responses in paragraphs to sync up with yours. I am only replying to the portion you directed at me Except Sadeas is not Roshone. As in Sadeas is not a lower light eyes. He is a highprince. And regardless it still validates the Alethi world view. Lirin has enough money and influence that he could challenge Roshone and back it up. Roshone has fallen from grace, and does not have as much clout as he would normally. We can use Roshone regarding how he was in Alethkar. There were silversmiths that got in the way. He arranged it using his influence to get them removed. They lacked the clout or resources to defend themselves or stand up, and so they rotted in jail. Roshone was only punished because of Dalinar, and even then the punishment was lenient because of Roshone's connections. Again, when you have the backing, when you have the clout, what you say goes. Actually unless you can provide a reference in the book, from what I recall the reason they paid the bridgemen what they did, was so they could spend it on whoring and drink to keep them complacent. Same reason for the structure of punishment. Keep the bridgemen beaten down, but not so much that they would completely give up. Convince them that at least running a bridge they might die. If you made living normally even worse, then the bridgemen would end up wanting to die. Even then some do anyway. Actually from what I have read, the legal system mainly applies to the lower half. There are constant border skirmishes between the highprince lands, with no penalty acted upon the highprinces for it. I believe it was Ruthgar (or some other highprince with an R name) that was planning of possibly returning to Kholinar to consolidate his power, which worried Dalinar that he would plot to take over because he was next in line after the Kholins. He was conflicted on whether to let him go back, in an effort to get everyone to return to Kholinar, but at the same time was worried about leaving him unwatched. My point is, there are accepted "laws" that everyone pretends to follow, but if they break, as long as they arrange it where they outmaneuvered their opponent, they "win". The grand tradition of the Alethi thrill of the contest. Frankly based on their legal system, if you had a problem with a highprince, and that highprince had the backing of 7 other highprinces, how are you going to lock him up? Literally, with what army? To clarify, I was not speaking of justice. At no point did I say no justice will stick to Adolin. That is something you all can feel free to debate. My only reason for writing what I did was to provide some context to the legal state of the Alethi. You can feel however you wish about it, and Sadeas's death. Just that was not what my comment was regarding. I am not taking either side. I only stated on the laws. "Justice" regarding Adolin is an entirely different matter that I do not have an opinion on. Now as to how legally the Alethi would have responded had Adolin summoned his blade and killed Sadeas, my question would be at what point in the books did that happen? If it happened in Way of Kings, then the kingdom would have fallen apart as the highprinces took sides and went to war. If it was as of Words of Radiance, again kingdom would have fallen apart as the highprinces took sides, and the Kholins having a weaker army at that time would have lost. If you are talking Oathbringer after the Sadeas princedom lost most of their army, as well as the Alethi lacking for a home except for Urithiru which is under Kholin sovereignty, as well as Jasnah being their queen, then I would say the Kholins win. Ialai lost most of her allies, and her army. She cannot currently field a response. Hopefully that clarified my post. I am not talking about justice at all. edit: if you would refer to page 227 of Way of Kings, this is what Dalinar said "Sadeas. Surely I did not just hear you openly - before the king - call my son usless. Surely you would not say that, as such an insult would demand that I summon my Blade and seek your blood. Shatter the Vengeance Pact. Cause the king's two greatest allies to kill one another. Surely you would not have been that foolish. Surely I misheard." So duels to the death over insults even between highprinces are most definitely accepted.

Thank you! It just ticks off all the check marks to me 1. it would explain why Jasnah freaks out seeing the shadows moving and thinks "not again". It would be because of her hallucinations when she was a child 2. it would explain why Jasnah fears being unable to trust her mind. Seeing hallucinations would make you question your perceptions, and everything you think to be true 3. it would explain why she was locked away in a dark room, and potentially why that was so painful for her. Being in a dark room gives you plenty of "emptiness" to fill with hallucinations. She wouldn't have anything visually that she could measure against to overcome her hallucinations. 4. it would explain ivory being attracted to her 5. it would explain why she is so hard on herself and strict with her emotions So fingers crossed! lol

This is a reply to both Lunamor and CrazyRioter Lol believe me it is a continual source of impatience and pain knowing that we will have to wait roughly at least 12 years before we potentially dig any further in Renarin and Jasnah via flashbacks. Only thing keeping me going is knowing its going to be great!

Potentially maybe? Unfortunately we have not seen that many oaths sworn on screen of the various orders to really compare to find out. As it stands we only know three or four skybreaker, 3 windrunner, 3 edgedancer, 4 lightweaver, and 3 bondsmith oaths. We don't know any of the oaths of the willshapers, the stonewards, the releasers, the elsecallers, and the truthwatchers. Ironically enough the only orders that are side by side that we know some of the oaths of are skybreakers, windrunners and bondsmiths. I think once we start to learn some of the other orders we can begin to have an idea.

No worries. Frankly we have so little to go by, anything presented would be pure conjecture, so I was just throwing out what popped in my head regarding WindsAlight question. I wish you luck with your theory! edit: @CrazyRioter I re-read my earlier post and I realize now where the misundersanding probably came in. Potentially because I mentioned that honorspren were also seen as sailors. In all honestly that was just a coincidence. When I came up with my theory regarding oathbringer and thought to myself about how the reachers were sailors, I recalled that the honorspren were too, so when I typed my theory, for completeness sake I mentioned them as well. It was not connected to your statement regarding you believing oathbringer was an honorspren. Sorry for the confusion!

No worries. Totally fine with you feeling however you wish regarding Sadeas and his death. Like I said in my post, just adding information regarding the legality alone. Was not posting it directing towards anyone. Totally understand and respect your view. I am not personally ringing in on either side.

Ok, and that scene could just as easily be seen as Dalinar being resolute and building relationships with Kaladin and his men. My speculation was just my own two cents on what I think the blade is. Wasn't saying you couldn't think the blade was an honorblade. That is why I was confused by your response. You don't need to defend your theory to me. I wasn't replying to you.

My personal theory, that I am writing more to log that I came up with it so if I end up right I can totally say "ha! called it!" lol is that Jasnah was/is a paranoid schizophrenic. She saw hallucinations, and her family gave her to the ardents to help her. The science of treating those with mental illnesses being archaic at the time, the treatment could result in being far worse than the "disease". That could support Jasnah's suffering and feeling betrayed/hurt by the ones she loves. Realizing she may never get out and end the torture, she begins to focus and use logic to recognize the difference between reality and hallucinations. This leads to her release, and also what begins to draw Ivory to her. I base this reasoning on the story of John Nash Jr. I am not only referring to his movie, but his full biography. He was treated with medication and electroshock therapy that he viewed as torture. He too attempted to manage his paranoid schizophrenia through logic and self control. He had varying degrees of success over the course of his life. This of course this is not a recommendation to avoid medical treatment for schizophrenia in our modern day, and I posit Jasnah's degree of paranoid schizophrenia would be of slightly lesser degree on a spectrum of severity (as in it is not as overwhelming/pronounced as what some cases could be, but also not trivial) which would aid in her gaining control of her perception. Now I also state all of this knowing my entire theory is conjecture. There is very little evidence to draw upon. It is more I took some instances, and used them to piece together what I think is a theory. I just hope I am right!

I have a theory with nothing concrete to back it up that Oathbringer is a Willshaper spren. All the imagery on the blade looks to me water themed. It has a "fish hook" hook on it. It has serrations that resemble waves. The reachers were sailors in the cognitive realm. Now true we do see honorspren manning boats as well, but to me also consider cohesion which is one of the Willshaper's surges. It turns anything hard into soft and claylike to be shaped. The Rosharan landmass is "water" in shadesmar which Willshapers would be able to manipulate like water. Again, all very loose evidence, but that is where my money is going. As to Dalinar helping revive Maya, that is a theory I believe could happen. Though in my version it would be predicated on the stronger connection Adolin has with his blade providing a guild for Dalinar providing an infusion of investiture to heal Maya. Fingers crossed we are right! lol

What you don't want from the next book?
Pathfinder replied to MistboreD's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually as per WoB it is the reverse. Lopen never accepted he was "disabled" and continued to see himself as "whole" is why he still healed after so long without his arm. He even jokes in the book about making rude gestures with his non-existent arm or about strangling the thing that ate it from the inside. -
Neutral ideas for what I want from the next book(s)
Pathfinder replied to Sedside's topic in Stormlight Archive
Elhokar set it up that Dalinar gives up all titles as highprince of the Kholinar princedom. Adolin becomes highprince of it in his stead. Dalinar becomes High King and rules Urithiru with authority over how it, and the war against Odium is run. Elhokar (and now Queen Jasnah by proxy) have complete and final say in regards to governance of the Alethi. Elhokar (and now Jasnah) will listen to and defer to Dalinar in regards to the over all war and work with him, but any rulings specifically regarding the highprinces and alethi citizenship is up to Elhokar (Jasnah). So Dalinar is no longer a highprince leading the Radiants. Jasnah is not a figurehead because she has national autonomy. Basically letting Jasnah focus on the internal politics while Dalinar focuses on the global. The brothers may believe Shallan's story about being an Elsecaller, but the cat is out of the bag regarding Odium. Multiple fused have now seen her using illusions. Among those fused, they organized Sadeas's soldiers in a manner to counter them, so they are aware they are illusions. Renarin was no where near the illusions so it would not be attributed to him. Finally as pointed out Malata works with the diagram, and the diagram now "works" with Odium. She as well as Taravangian have been present at the meetings where Shallan lightweaves maps for Dalinar. So I think it is safe to say Odium knows she is a lightweaver by now. -
Not ringing in on whether Sadeas's death was right or wrong, just adding a little more legal context regarding the Alethi system. I believe we like to think that there is a legal and enforceable system in Alethkar by how Dalinar and the people close to him act, but I believe the actual practice is quite different (and I believe there are in book references and WoB that support this. If requested I will be happy to update my post to provide them though at this moment I do not have the chance). With the Alethi, might makes right. Brandon has said you are only a Highprince if you have enough people backing you and agreeing that you are a Highprince. Basically no one disagrees that you are Highprince because you have the forces to back up your claim and crush any opposing. Dalinar could have, and was well within his rights in the Alethi legal system to have killed Sadeas on multiple occasions "honorably" in the Alethi view of the word. One of the earliest examples is when Sadeas insults Dalinar's children (Adolin and Renarin). Adolin begins to summon his blade, but Dalinar stops him. Dalinar then proceeds to elaborate to Sadeas that surely he would not insult his son for that would impinge on Dalinar's honor and call for him to duel Sadeas right then and there. The only reason that did not happen was two fold, 1. Sadeas thought he would lose to the Blackthorn and so took it back and 2. Dalinar knew if he attacked and killed Sadeas, it would turn the two most powerful houses in the kingdom who were united in service of the king against each other, breaking the kingdom apart. But just because Dalinar did not want to see the kingdom fall apart to infighting does not mean doing so would not have been seen as perfectly normal and acceptable by the Alethi. The same exact situation presented itself again after the Tower. Dalinar could have openly stated what Sadeas actually did, and call for his head and attack. Perfectly acceptable and "legal" to the Alethi. Just Dalinar 1. again did not want the kingdom to fall apart and 2. was outnumbered and knew his forces would lose if it came to a fight right then and there. Finally Brandon's own commentary on the aftermath of the kill is that when you are at a certain level, and your dad decides what is legal, you can get away with certain things. Now could Dalinar have a problem with it because of his personal morals and ethics? Could any of the other characters? Sure, that can totally be up to debate. But "legally" as per the Alethi, as long as Ialai cannot put together a strong enough force to stand up against them, then Sadeas's death is "just how things go". Dalinar could say it went down however he wished, and that would be the accepted story. They could even claim Sadeas started it, and Adolin just put him down, and with no one with the power to dispute it, it would become "accepted" as truth just like The Rift and The Tower. Now whether this will change under Queen Jasnah in an effort to reform the Alethi legal system, I cannot say, but as it stands, to me, in light of the Alethi, this was all par for the course. edit: to add, The Codes are not part of the Alethi legal system. They are ideals to hold to during wartime that although once upon a time might have been enforced, they have no longer. Otherwise all the Highprinces except Dalinar would have been brought up on numerous charges amongst them being 1. being drunk during war time 2. dueling officers during wartime 3. not wearing a uniform 4. not doing any action required of the lower rank (Sadeas not running bridges for instance) 5. abandoning allies (Sadeas at the tower). So just because Dalinar holds to the codes, does not mean they apply to the Alethi legal system overall, and seems like they haven't applied for centuries.

That is why I said in my original post on this thread "Whether or not the in world inhabitants of Scadrial know this, I do not know, but". Breath is a different matter. It is extra. People on Nalthis are naturally more invested than people from other planets, but when they voluntarily give up their breaths, they are slightly less invested than people on other planets. Their health and "quality of life" is reduced, when compared to someone with a breath, but it is far an away a different creature from getting part of who you are violently ripped away. Well that is my question to you. (forgetting our real world religions, or religion on the whole) If you knew that by spiking someone, or being spiked, who you are is horribly and painfully ripped away, can you truly say it is ethical, even if the end result is death? There is a reason for the "cruel and unusual" clause for the death penalty. The guillotine was invented to be more humane than using an ax that could potentially stick in the person's neck, and require a second or third swing. The person is still being killed, so it could be said "well they won't care after that", yet there are moral and ethical questions on how we get the person there. If it was known what hemalurgy does to your spirit web, I could easily see it being filed under hanging, beheading (via ax), and the electric chair. Storms, there are cases when a lethal injection is performed incorrectly by the doses being administered in the wrong amounts or at the wrong times. You could anesthetize the person all you want, it does not change what is done to the person themselves.

Nightblood leaks "corrupted" investiture in the form of black smoke that he ate. Hemalurgy does not exactly have the investiture fully for re-purposing because there is an inherent loss of power just from spiking a person to begin with. Then the longer it is outside the person, or without being surrounded by blood or aluminum it continues to lose potency. So the full investiture is not all there for re-purposing. You are going to get a weaker effect.

So I personally am not taking part in this whatsoever. I am an unbiased third party posting a thread for each party. The purpose of this is to foster discussion. This thread is for those that like Adolin and would like to say why. Those that do not like Adolin need not apply. I understand that there will be those that feel forums are for discussing disparate viewpoints and posting a thread focused on one viewpoint is nothing more than an echo chamber. That is fine, I respect that. However, the purpose of this thread is for those who have a view to share it and feel heard. Not saying I believe they have or have not been heard elsewhere. Merely stating that is the sole purpose of this thread and as per Chaos’s post in another thread, and I quote: “There are so many threads anyone can make! Here are some example topic titles that one could use: Why I don’t like Adolin Why I like Adolin” So I take the head moderator stating it is ok to post a topic as license to post said topic. If you do not like that this thread does not allow opposing opinions, you do not need to lodge your complaint here. Simply do not post. If you do not like Adolin, there is another thread I have posted, that is the same as this word for word. Feel free to post there. Also please do not respond to points made on the other post here. That is passive aggressive. Just state your own views, and discuss your views with others here. I have even taken the time to type both threads out in word, open two windows in the 17th shard, and paste and press the button to post at the same time to be as utterly unbiased to either side as possible. I have listed below some common thoughts on why people like Adolin to get the conversation started. If I have misrepresented your views, feel free to comment correcting me and say why. I am now going out to a nice dinner with my wife to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I have tagged @Chaos so he can be made aware of the existence of both threads. Have fun! 1. There is so much deeper to Adolin as a character 2. He felt conflicted after killing Sadeas 3. Adolin has worked for and appreciated everything in his life 4. Adolin’s narrative should grow 5. and any other view I have missed

We don't have evidence for any of it, which is why I said potentially lol. We know it is possible to fuel other magic systems with other magic systems, but we have no idea how or in what form it takes place. Theoretically you could be right, but also theoretically a few filings of steel can be burned for quite some time and even flared. The power is coming from preservation, not the metal. The metal is only acting as the gateway to that power. So I do not know how or in what manner that would be measured to match the steel itself. To me you would get a lot more bang back for what you spend to make a few tiny filings, but as I said, I got nothing at all to back it up. Just thought it would be a fun idea lol.
-
Elsecaller and steel misting. If the Elsecaller learned the hack of using other magic systems to fuel others (potentially), then he or she would have unlimited.....everything. It goes like so Step 1. soulcast steel filings Step 2. burn steel filings and use that as a hack to fuel more soulcasting and teleporting(potentially) Step 3: soulcast projectiles to push with your steel misting ability, or soulcast enemies/obstacles, or use your armor, or your living blade, or teleportation Step 4: running low on metal to fuel your soulcasting and other abiltiies? soulcast more! Step 5: profit As to who I would give this ability to? Myself

Hmmm. The only thing I really have to add here is Lin put pattern/dagger in a box and put that box in the wall. I think had Lin known about radiant spren and how they work, he would have either had that box be made of aluminum, or would have known that would not have held pattern. So to me that would imply he didn't know. However we do know the Davars have been influenced by Odium/Unmade, so maybe you have a point that odium could have urged him to. Not sure what Odium's goal would be in that case, but interesting to think on. Maybe soulcasting away garbage, and waste to air? Though we have seen them do that with smoke too. Maybe amethyst is worth so much because of other precious metals it can make as well? Not only aluminum? I could see topaz not being as valuable considering it could not create new gemstones for soulcasting. Or to clarify, it could create gemstones, but they wouldn't be able to be used with soulcasting, so no infinite self replicating cheat (WoB confirms that). Found the WoB I was referring to regarding metallurgy. posted below Phantine At the risk of getting too technical, is there anything besides lack of knowledge preventing a soulcaster from turning some rocks into a bunch of plutonium and exploding? I know you've got some rules attached to time bubbles to avoid those going nuclear so I wouldn't be surprised if there was something or another. Brandon Sanderson Well, Soulcasting isn't fission or fusion. It's a spiritual transformation process, not a physical one, and so you don't have to worry about some of these issues. There IS historical precedent of accidentally setting off fission reactions in the cosmere using the magic, but that was a different process. Soulcasting is actually pretty safe. (Well, on a grand scale.) You could end up irradiating yourself, though, which wouldn't be very fun. If you know what you were doing, making plutonium or uranium on Roshar wouldn't be difficult. The problem is more a matter of knowledge, and room for scientific exploration. They're unlikely to make atom bombs for the same reason they haven't made gunpowder. Once they figure out that some substances are important, they can learn to make them with Soulcasting (assuming they have Radiants) but some substances just don't occur naturally--so discovering them in the first place is difficult, and would require more modern scientific process. Phantine Okay, just to clarify here (since I'm not sure how up you are on early nuke designs) A big enough chunk of uranium or plutonium will explode regardless of whether it's in a bomb or not. Early bomb designs just slammed two smaller chunks together so they'd be one big chunk. For plutonium 'big enough' is about 35 pounds in one place - a chunk somewhere between the size of baseball and volleyball. If I understand properly, people can soulcast from the cognitive realm into the physical, which implies once we get into a more modern stormlight setting soulcasters will make nuclear submarines look like small potatoes. Brandon Sanderson Slamming two chunks together so they became one big chunk seems an understatement, from what I remember. I'm under the impression that you had to use a great deal of explosive force to ram them together in order to set off a viable fission reaction. Doesn't it have to be compressed somewhat in order to react with itself? I'll admit, it's been a long time since I've looked at this, but I remember glancing it over, and deciding that you'd need more than just soulcasting to get it to happen. Though it's not outside of reason that a soulcaster could learn to create super-dense plutonium. The problem is one of understanding, however. Just like it's totally possible that we, with our current technology, could figure out some huge breakthrough in science allowing FTL or other incredible discoveries. But we don't have the understanding to pull it off yet. In a modern setting, however, a lot of these complaints go out the window. Let's just say that this isn't the only reason a modern society that can instantly transmute one substance to another is potentially a very interesting place. Phantine You're totally right that everyone currently uses an 'implosion' style compression design. It's a lot more bang for your buck, and you need less radioactive material to work with. They're also a lot safer, because just sitting around they're well below critical mass - without the power-boosting tricks they basically can't go off. The old "nobody uses these anymore" designs were 'Gun-Type'. Very simple - shoot a uranium bullet into the center of a uranium ring (or vice versa). Inefficient as heck (the Hiroshima bomb only fissioned 1.4% of its uranium), but also super simple to put together. Despite being simple to build, gun-types were also super unsafe relative to modern implosion devices (among other worries, dropping a gun-type device into the ocean could potentially set it off because of how neutrons react with water). Also, getting the timing perfect on the fissile 'bullet' was a problem, so practically speaking it could only be done with uranium. After WWII, the only use the US ever had for gun-types was in bunker busters and nuclear artillery (because of course that was a good idea). Darn, that post turned out longer than I expected it to. Anyway, I'm looking forward to see you make something really cool out of a post-scarcity transmutropolis setting (especially since the liespren would be in charge of nuclear treaties), and also my roommate just pointed out all the laying out of nuclear bomb details is pointless if they could just make antimatter instead. D'oh. Brandon Sanderson This is useful information for me, but my gut says that Rosharans couldn't get this working with their current tech level. That said, the REAL issue (as you mentioned in your original question) is knowledge, not feasibility. They'd have to know how to make the right kind of Uranium or Plutonium--and would need to be able to get this across to a soulcaster in a way that works, then THEY would need to get this across to spren. Cross that hurdle, and I suppose it's not at all implausible to imagine Alethi during Dalinar's era with nukes. I suspect the right kind of fabrial could make a trigger device to match ring and bullet at the right time. Depends on how quickly it needs to be going, though.

That could be a really nice moment for the two brothers. Bonding over that -
Adolin - Dancing on the Edge of being an Edgedancer

I have posted it in another thread but I would be happy to post the gist of it here. My theory is actually sorta a combination of a few separate people's theories into one. I think that the bond a shardbearer has with a dead shardblade is a faux bond. I think the Connection you form with the dead blade is what helps the faux bond form. The faux bond then allows you to summon and desummon the dead shardblade. I think Adolin's actions have resulted in the strengthening of his connection to Maya. That is why I think he is getting a little more out of what the bond already can do (summon the blade faster, and hear Maya). I believe it is substantiated that anytime a dead shardblade is summoned, the spren is screaming. I think a radiant touching the blade helps the shardbearer hear what is already there, and Adolin's increased connection allows him to hear Maya clearer, and she begin to recognize him as a person, and not just her wielder. I think this is hinted regarding Dalinar (when fighting a chasm fiend Dalinar feels energy and eagerness from oathbringer, just like when Adolin fights the Thunderclast. When Dalinar finds Oathbringer after Sadeas dies, the stormfather says that oathbringer remembers Dalinar and hates him less than it hates others, to me just like Maya recognizing Adolin). So this leads me to the question of "then why hasn't it been done before?" For me, I think the WoB that I interpret as saying something of Maya was torn out, hints that that needs to be restored before she can be fully revived. I theorize that using the increased connection Adolin has forged with Maya as a scaffolding or blue print, Dalinar can supercharge it with investiture (like he has done with Shallan's illusions, and at the battle of thayla) repairing what was ripped out, and allowing Maya and Adolin to bond in truth. For me, this would solve the concern one sign has that Adolin would not be as strong a part of Maya's revival, while also Adolin not being singularly and overwhelming special which is the concern of the other side. To me, Adolin's hard work would be validated, it would be a unique experience to him, it would potentially be supported by foreshadowing, explain why it is so hard to be done in the past and be a process that could be replicated which could restore the other dead spren and heal the rift between the high spren and the humans, resulting in a huge boon for humanity against Odium. Lol that got longer than I intended. But that is my theory. -
True true. The only other thing I could think of is using soulcasters is expensive (Elhokar uses his control over them to tax his highprinces for instance), and I cannot recall how prevalent or accessible amethysts are. So potentially maybe they would be unable to mass produce armor in that fashion? Though as you said, the ability to deter a shardblade, even momentarily would be a powerful one. At this point I am just throwing thoughts out there to see what sticks. Interesting point about the warhammer. I have to look but I feel like I read in a WoB that Roshar was not very far in metallurgy because of their fabrials. That the question came up due to the lack of guns and combustion engines on Roshar. Either that or I am recalling in error, and Brandon said Scadrial was ahead in their metallurgy because of the interest in allomancy/feruchemy/hemalurgy. I will dig and see if I can find it.
