  1. I agree that the Tranquiline Halls were probably something other than Braize, but Vorin mythology also says that the Stormfather is Jezrien and that the Heralds lead a battle for the Tranquiline Halls. It can't be taken as a good source of information.
  2. 1. I think it's more likely that Shardplate is by order. Shardplate is formed by the bonding of a lesser spren. For Windrunner Plate, a windspren would be bonded. Same with the other orders, but with the lesser versions of their spren. The Bondsmiths would not have their own Plate, because they presumably bond only godspren. 2. Possible, but then Plate would scream. Which leads into 3. The reason Blades scream is because the spren is partially through an involuntary transformation and is in incredible pain. It's similar to the Shaod during most of Elantris. Protecting and killing are most likely not related.
  3. It's a Cognitive thing. Szeth knows Shardblade wounds can't be healed, so he can't heal them. Kaladin knows that Stormlight can heal a lot of things, so it can heal his Shardblade wounds.
  4. The word "hound" in that context could just as easily be "throg" or "karkakka". You know what an ax is, but what is a throg?
  5. That's a lot of erosion on the east, though.
  6. The mountains were presumably created by whatever made the weird stuff with the shape. Incidentally, I looked over a dragon curve again, and Roshar would only look like it if part of the curve was removed.
  7. That still doesn't limit the number, of course, and in fact implies that there were more. I agree. I wouldn't describe them as fabrials, but I agree with the essence of it. Since the spren would never have been alive in the first place, they wouldn't scream. And since the spren infused in the armor wouldn't be fully bonded, they would probably drain Stormlight in order to keep the effects of Shardplate. This probably works through a similar or the same mechanism as the Honorblades, since they're both outside sources of Shardic power. I suspect that dead Shardblades would do the same if Radiants could hold them without the screams. I also agree about Bondsmiths doing it. The name is perfect for that sort of thing. Both the smithing of the armor and the bonding of the spren. Edit: Found the WoB about Radiants wearing Shardplate. He's referring to the modern people, not the people in the visions.
  8. I think that Odium will be the Big Bad, but it'll turn out that we were missing some important piece of information about the imminent threat. The Everstorm will probably be significantly less important than we think. Sure, it'll cause massive destruction, but remember Dalinar's last vision in WoK? Even an Everstorm couldn't cause the sort of destruction that Honor feared would come to pass.
  9. That scene seems more like it would support my theory. If it's an outgrowing of Stormlight, shouldn't it disappear once the Radiants kill their spren? Whereas if it's armor with spren in it, it would still exist but would lose some abilities.
  10. Not really. With fabrials, AFAIK, the gems are used as holders for Stormlight. With Shardplate, the gems probably serve a similar function to the gems on Shardblades. They form a partial Nahel bond with the wearer, allowing for the Plate to adapt to the wielder.
  11. 10 is the holy number of Honor, or something like that. Kind of like 16 and Preservation. The tens and the symmetry are probably related to the influences of Honor.
  12. Or is the Desolation the trigger for Taln leaving Damnation?
  13. Maybe it involves the fusing of a non-Nahel spren with a suit of armor? The spren would then create the unique shape of each set of Plate, similar to how Nahel spren form unique shapes of Blades. Since the Plate is mainly a suit of armor, a Physical object, it can still take damage from Physical objects. But it can regrow, because its shape is a Cognitive aspect powered by the spren. Regrowth of Plate is therefore similar to Stormlight healing.
  14. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/7183-theory-heralds-are-expatriate-nalthis-returned-warbreaker-wor-spoilers/ Maybe that's what happened to all the past God Kings! They discovered time travel and went to Roshar!
  15. Interesting. I don't have it, but as far as I can tell it's set before the advent of Harmony. So apparently the genericising (yes, that's a word now) of Investiture holds true between Shards. On the other hand, it seems somewhat likely to me that that sort of thing might have been simplified for the sake of gameplay. Particularly when it manages to overwrite the Shardic association of the Investiture and makes it part of Preservation.
  16. So Feruchemical nicrosil deshapes the pot, basically?
  17. Each order would have a different interpretation of the First Ideal. Windrunners are based on protection, so they must protect, even if they think things would be better if they didn't. Skybreakers are justice, so they must serve justice even if they think things would be better if they didn't. We don't know about the oaths of the Dustbringers, but presumably they have something similar.
  18. Huh. I didn't know that. What's the difference between Investiture that can be used to fuel Allomantic steel and an Allomantic steel store? I was assuming that the Investiture, when stored, remained Investiture, and that Compounding something draws it from the power of that Shard.
  19. It's an extension of the First Ideal. Journey before destination. If you kill people/let people die because you think the world would be better without them, you're putting the destination before the journey.
  20. Yup. But you wouldn't have to only do it during highstorms. You'd need a little Stormlight to begin with, but by Compounding it you could drain increasingly more. It would be difficult to do the swallowing, but by Soulcasting a massive block of nicrosil to act as a main storage, and then Soulcasting a huge amount of nicrosil pellets to which you'd transfer the Stormlight for compounding, you could probably Compound huge amounts of Stormlight quite quickly. Is there some sort of Misting/Ferring which can steal the contents of metalminds? I vaguely remember some mention of that in some topic, but I can't remember which one it was. If I'm not misremembering something about this, you could have a bunch of Nicrosil Twinborn putting Honor into a nicrosilmind, which the other person could then tap at then end in order to become Honor. With other compounding you'd only be able to drain Harmony/Preservation. Nicrosil compounding allows any Shard to be drained.
  21. Spiral galaxies are basically giant drains, though. Drains that lead into black holes.
