From the wiki: http://coppermind.net/wiki/Surgebinding That might be helpful. I'm not one of the major discussers in the SA section of the forums, but I do read through some of those. I guess we're waiting to see what these two surge abilities are like.

When I shared this thread with my husband, his reply was: [in movie announcer voice] "In a world where heroes become villains, one true hero rises like a potato in a minefield..."

Calamity (The Reckoners #3) Takes Place in Atlanta
traceria replied to Argent's topic in The Reckoners
Personally, the only reason that wouldn't work for me and might cause too many opportunities for comparison is the video game Infamous 2 (I can't play games like that because I'm jump-challenged, but I watched my husband play the whole thing), which is set in New Orleans...and the main character is kinda a superhero/epic. -
Alton Brown? Huge fan, but I've only ever seen what I've been lucky enough to stumble upon airing on TV, and now it's never on. Booo....

It's days like this that make me wish for new MLP:FiM episodes.

Firefight talk (SPOILERS!!! do not read before book)
traceria replied to Sirscott13's topic in The Reckoners
My friend and I were talking today about the book, and she mentioned the power of love thing. That got me wondering. It would certainly be cleaner and less subjective if it was just about facing your fear. (Edit to fix typo.) -
The more I think about it, the more I think Calamity was somehow cloaking or masking... or whatever you want to call it... his/its true form from any observers. This could be the case in conjuction with people of Prof's generation keeping mum and/or too large a percentage of humanity (particularly people that would have been old enough to remember details very clearly) dying off at the hands of the Epics. If there are very few eyewitnesses left, and those that are don't share the knowledge, then the general public isn't going to know much about Calamity either except what is rumor. Plus, by this point in time, people are either scavenging around and general distrustful or anyone outside their small circle or are under the thumb of an Epic. The Reckoners were the exception. Maybe he is an Angel?

Firefight talk (SPOILERS!!! do not read before book)
traceria replied to Sirscott13's topic in The Reckoners
I really like that idea (except for the Knowledge being a bad thing theme in the original story). I really want to talk about concupiscence now. Nerd? Maybe. I've managed to read through this whole thread now, though no other Firefight spoiler threads yet, and am wondering: Is the general consensus that facing your fear is what fights off the Case of the Epic Crazies, or is it acting in love despite the fear? (Hope that question makes sense.) -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When you sincerely hope that another 17th Shard member's wife decides to give in and read some Sanderson!! -
Oh, sorry...I totally missed it. I'll delete my post. No worries about credit or anything!

I can totally do that if no one has yet.

Having a Bad Day? Stop here for a Good Rant!
traceria replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
You all should drive in New Jersey sometime... Not only do we get Delaware drivers (often ranked in the top ten of states with the worst drivers) frequently in South Jersey, we're by Philly, which I've also seen in the top ten cities for worst drivers. Not that I don't totally empathize, 'cuz I do. -
This begs the question: What rank/characters would be on a Stormlight Archive themed deck of cards? Obviously, the kings would need to come out. Would the Aces be the Knights Radiant, for example?
-
I really wish this one could work out for me to come. Seriously, though, I will see you all at the next Philly event, whenever that may be! If you really want to make up some advanced-play rules for Szeth v. Szeth, consider using a deck of cards and playing War.

Having a Bad Day? Stop here for a Good Rant!
traceria replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
My rant for the day: I really wish I did not have weird-driver magnetism. My husband tells me that when I'm in the car with him, people do crazy driving things with a much higher frequency than when he's driving by himself. (For the record, he's usually still the one driving when I'm in the car with him.) So today, I'm thanking God that the lane for oncoming traffic was clear, because not only did a driver make a very wide turn on a red light into flowing traffic (i.e. my car) but the guy in the right lane mostly next to me (half of his/her car was overlapping with mine in parallel fashion) decided to merge into my lane without using a turn signal. So, I had two cars nearly simultaneously heading for mine, either heading for the back corner of my car (guy who turned) or the right side of my car (the one merging without a signal). If it had not been for the clear lane where oncoming traffic usually is, I would have likely been hit by two different cars. I had to swerve over the yellow center lines. Nice way to start the day! -

In total agreement with this. *points up* To Twi: Happy 25th! And also, don't put yourself down if you can help it. Your mom irrationally does that too much for yours or anyone's good. You are totally a catch from my impressions of you! To ArthurDent or anyone else despairing of finding a the right significant other: Take the words of maxal and Ashiok to heart. Also, be patient, love yourself and realize that your desired timing isn't always the right timing. I didn't even meet my husband until I was 28 (and I'd never had a serious boyfriend prior) and we married when I was 29 and he 30. Similarly, a friend of mine who I considered a total catch didn't meet and marry her husband until she was 35. Both she and I are glad we waited for the right person to come along. It's totally worth it even if you deal with some struggles beforehand. To Voidus: *hugs* to you. Cancer stinks and doubly so when it takes someone you love. I lost two grandparents and a very close aunt to to it years ago now, and it's always tough. It's tougher when the more you care about them, too. *repeat hugs* -
Wow, those are awesome, kobold! Thanks for sharing your find!

I'm only 100 pages in due to busy evenings this week...cut me some slack.

Okay, you must change your userpic RIGHT NOW, otherwise I will never be able to read a thread you post in ever again. *shudders * (Honestly, it's nothing personal...it's just....the....*gulp *...spider.)

It would be way worse if it meant doing a shot every time. (I say that and the only shots I've ever done (and only two in one evening) are B-52's...because they're yummy. By the way, if you have a flaming B-52, a metal straw for drinking it is highly recommended. Anyone grab one of those after the Great Transfersion?) Edit to add link.

Sorry...I kind of didn't read all the responses above due to lack of time at the moment (maybe later), but I think it's more the fun of discussing who we think would be good in a certain role than actually wanting to see a movie of it. Don't get me wrong, IF someone made a fabulous film version of a Sanderson book, I'd be super excited. That said, the movie threads, to me, are just a way to have fun talking about: What if someone made an awesome movie of [insertbooktitle], who would be part of that dream cast?

Pleasantly stumbled upon The Talos Principle. Definitely for those of us who are more into puzzle and adventure games.
