  1. The screaming is an anomaly. It does not mesh with the chronology as we know it. Here's a quote from the Steelheart prologue: This quote tells us that people did not change into Epics within moments of Calamity's arrival. It seems fairly definitive that a full year took place between the rise of Calamity and the first Epics. My guess is that the screaming was either due to Calamity itself scaring people (people have panicked over far less), or an as-yet unknown element. Another anomaly with the chronology as we know it is Dawnslight. I'm fairly sure there's a reference in Firefight that claims Dawnslight's effects started "just after" Calamity, which would be... kind of astounding, really, since that'd make him one of the earliest verified Epics. I'll try to find quotes to flesh out the exact timeline we're talking about later. It'll take time to synthesize all the information Firefight provided us with.
  2. If we assume 2013 A.D. to be the year Calamity rose, based on the publication year of the original novel, then we can construct the following timeline: 2013: Calamity rises. Firefight prologue takes place. 2014: Roughly a year later, the first Epics begin to manifest powers. Sometime in 2015: Annexation Day. Steelheart seizes control of Chicago, Illinois with the Great Transference. Nightwielder plunges the city into perpetual gloom. Steelheart prologue takes place. Ten years pass 2025: Events of Steelheart and Mitosis take place. I have a big official-looking timeline that we used on the Reckoners RPG, and I've had these specific events worked out for a while now. Here soon I'll be updating it with Firefight dates.
  3. On the other hand, imagining Nighthound with a squeaky voice is doing wonders for my morale. It's... without giving spoilers... Okay, in the spoiler tag I tell you what we learn more about. Not what we learn. What we learn about. In the spoiler tag I tell you which topic of the Reckonerverse is elaborated on in a canonically perilous manner, but I do not divulge any narrative details. Got it? So it's not really spoilery. It's just telling you the basic type of reveal we get. Feel free to either read it or skip it--but know that I divulge nothing of the plot in said spoiler tag. Ready? Here goes.
  4. Remington is Carl; the bitter but essentially good person working through personal tragedy to claim a new life. Russel is Revolution, the naive but kind person who sees good in everyone and wishes to assist others. Uh... Nathan is... Doug, somehow? And Nighthound is Alpha? I believe this metaphor is going the way of the porridge-brick.
  5. I too have finished the book. I've decided I'm going to devote all my time and energy into developing a cryogenic suspension pod. See you guys in Spring 2016. If anyone else is finished and would like to discuss the novel's ramifications for the RP, shoot me a PM.
  6. ...does that make Lightwards an Epic Charles Muntz? Also, Prof would have a heart attack at the number of nice Epics in Oregon. @Mailliw: I don't know of any characters from Houston, but the Trattners came from San Diego.
  7. Well, if and when Sunburst becomes canon, we may be looking at some serious destruction. Or if Electro is given much free rein. Or if Electro and Sunburst fought each other. Whoops... I'll just say I certainly don't mean to come across as taunting in any way. Just... I'm filled with child-like glee at having the sequel to one of my favorite books and am prone to gushing about it.
  8. You know, I've noticed that as a general rule canon Epics are more powerful than RP Epics. A lot of the characters in Oregon have prime invincibilities or mild offensive powers, but nothing as spectacular as Steelheart's invulnerability + wind control + strength + energy blasts. Ironic, considering our main goal is the complete destruction of a state. Thanks. I'm tempted to do Newton and Obliteration as well, but I've already been away from Firefight for three hours and I don't think I can stay away any longer.
  9. I'm of the opinion that Obliteration could curbstomp everyone in Oregon at once, assuming no one set off his weakness. (I don't know what his weakness is at this point.) So you do know already. Welp, here she is:
  10. Measurements of evilness can vary from person to person. Personally I think Nighthound would draw the line at Obliteration's level of [DATA EXPUNGED]. It's technically been publicly available for a while now, if you count the info that got posted on the Coppermind. I don't know if TwiLyght's seen that yet though, so I just thought it'd be nicer to ask first.
  11. Nighthound would call him a crazy slontze before promptly fleeing whatever city he'd stationed himself in. The pic I have tells you what her most noticeable power is. I can post it now or once you've learned what her powers are; it's up to you.
  12. And then Obliteration died. I'll happily recite that along with you. In other news, I ponified Regalia just so I could say I got to it first.
  13. ARgh there's so much I want to say about Obliteration but I've read further than everyone else ARgh... I'm 58% done with the e-book. Which is both good and bad; the good part is that I'm enjoying another awesome installation in the Reckoners trilogy, and the bad part is that every page I read brings me closer to a long and harsh wait for Calamity to be released.
  14. I know. If guarding Brandon Sanderson isn't defending America's resources, I don't know what is. I live in small town Texas, so there are a lot of recruiters and military men in the area. You'll see them in Wal-Mart on weekends a lot; the one I spoke to walked up to me while I was waiting in line at Kroger. And yeah, the military isn't for me either. Unless there's a branch devoted to Brandon Sanderson lore and protection services, in which case I'll sign up in a heartbeat.
  15. I was approached by a military recruiter for the first time today. Unfortunately, becoming Brandon Sanderson's personal escort is "not what the National Guard does," so I had to decline the offer.
  16. Sounds like a good plan. Look on the bright side, though. I'll probably finish the book today or tomorrow, and I might have to go days without posting comments about it. Like how [DATA EXPUNGED] totally reminds me of [REDACTED] and how I think [iNFORMATION WITHHELD]. You'll be able to talk about everything you read right away. We may need a new topic. "Firefight, the Reckoners RPG, and You: Or, Why Everything You've Posted So Far is Completely Wrong." I'm halfway through and I haven't seen anything that's directly contradicted the RP (and I've seen one detail that actually helps with Sam's San Diego backstory a bit.) But I'm still bracing myself for it.
  17. If Nighthound gets taken out by Fade, Lightwards will need a new person of mass destruction on his team. Parity could fill that role with some additional corruption. Her ability to drain colors would also make her a prime secret weapon against Funtimes, as well. I've been spending my day curled up with my e-reader and a copy of Firefight. Allow me to give a brief and utterly non-spoilery remark on the quality of the novel:
  18. They're taking My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic off of Netflix in February. My little sister isn't going to be happy about this. Netflix does have episodes of the pre-FiM pony series available, so she watched some of those today. While she claims to have liked them, I noticed that she spent much of her viewing time asking when Fluttershy was going to make an appearance. Myself? I vomited rainbows, and not in the good way.
  19. Sorry to hear that. See you Saturday, and good luck with your grades! If there's one thing that's certain about the Funtimes/Quota conflict, it's that it'll be anything but fun. For Quota, at least. It'll be a blast for the rest of us.
  20. We don't reply directly to other people's posts on the RP thread, as they tend to interrupt the flow of the narrative. The 17th Shard is blocked on all computers Moral Guardian has access to, solely because of Nighthound. After Quota, Timeport, and Electro began their rampage, he began blocking all sites that referenced Brandon Sanderson, just to be sure.
  21. Funtimes and Moral Guardian: defenders of all that is cute, adorable, and wholesome.
  22. I'm torn between Suki and Camile. I'm probably leaning closer to Suki, though. Those are adorable. I'd like to preemptively ban any Kick the Dog moments involving Sam's pug. Just as a matter of general principle.
  23. If Brandon Sanderson ever uttered that phrase, it would immediately become canon and take effect in the RP. I like all of those names. One thing that should be considered is that the surname "Trattner" will be affixed to whatever name is ultimately chosen. I don't think there's a soul alive that would object to new pug videos being introduced to the internet.
  24. That would be extraordinarily generous of you, but I won't ask you to do that. Partly because I live in Texas and I'm not sure how much that kind of shipping would cost, and partly because it's the experience of meeting my favorite author and having him sign something like that that I crave as much as the signed item itself. But again, thanks for the offer. It would be awesome if you were actually able to do that. Oddly enough that's been a recurring dream of mine lately; meeting Brandon Sanderson and babbling about Doctor Funtimes to him. I fully expect for a full-blown pug-omancer to enter Oregon in the next twenty pages. On that we can most certainly agree. Did you pick out a name yet?
  25. That is a very good point. Maybe stash the print-out inside of the book and then act surprised when it falls out. "Wow, how did that get there? Crazy world, huh? Anyhow, it was on the title page so you have to sign it."
