CAREFULLY label spoilers from the end of the book. A lot of people still haven't read it. Can you edit your post and warn about major spoilers, quickly before anyone clicks that tag?

Maybe we should set a few ground rules about what we're willing to retcon. Minor references that Firefight disproves should probably be edited--someone claiming to have visited Houston recently, for instance, should probably be edited to San Antonio or Dallas. However, I think trying to retcon details with massive narrative weight, like Funtimes taking people along with her or Lightwards engaging in necromancy, would only result in a lot of headaches and frustration. At a certain point we might have to concede that we're in open rebellion against canon, is what I'm saying.

...What have I done? Sunburst would have a greater ability to oppose the Astoria Epics than Obliteration, certainly. (Which is why there's a possibility of her being my What Happened in Astoria character, if I decide to make her canon. ) Don't worry. Pugs ward away evil. It's a scientific fact.

Ray + Upgrade + Much longer in Nighthound's presence = Obliteration-level-explosion. Sunbursts' powers were a little nebulous and open to change, but essentially the ability to absorb energy from the sun and use it either for projecting bolts of fire or transforming herself into sentient energy. The latter ability was attached to a prime invincibility--she'd shift into her energy form whenever exposed to any form of harm. Probably not well. I doubt Koschei would have been happy if a shirtless Obliteration waltzed into The Dalles and set himself a lawnchair. And I can't see Obliteration working for an Epic who could neither oppose him or offer him anything of value. I could see Lightwards descending to Obliteration-levels of insanity after a bunch more deaths.

I like to imagine that was the day Nighthound took an unscheduled and ill-advised trip to Houston. That is perfect. Not only does it fit the character, but I might be listening to that piece a lot of times in the future.

Pity. They'd have been "totes adorbs," as the kids say. Though honestly, Obliteration is the most destructively psychotic character I've seen in the Reckonerverse yet.

First impressions? Someday your grandchildren may want to know how Grandma felt when she first read about their favorite villain from classic literature.

Good point! I have little to say in response, but I will say that you're forgetting the perverse joy some of us take in criticizing movies and complaining about which parts of the books got left out. If they made a Mistborn movie, there could probably be an entire board devoted to people picking it apart, with threads like "What would you have filmed differently" or "Which of your favorite characters did they leave out."

To be fair, it's not so much a "cool kids group" as it is a "obsessive kids who forsake their lives for 24 hours while they rushed through a superhero novel group." Nah, that'd make too much sense. How about, "the destruction of Oregon was actually an enormous insurance scam perpetrated by Vondra's deceased son from beyond the grave?"

PM sent to you and mail-mi. Within the next couple of weeks it's likely that all Oregon participants will have read the book, so hopefully by then we can talk on the Question thread proper. Until then, the PM can sate the yearning of those of us who want to talk about how the book's events tie with the RP. In other news, our WMG page is thriving. It turns out Baxter Game's cat is actually the reincarnated spirit of Koschei the Deathless, Timeport is secretly the Master, and Sam is from the Book of Job.

Granted. You may have an unlimited conversation with my cat, also named Jasnah. She says she'd like to start the conversation with "mrrow." I wish for a plateful of sushi. -
Myself, mail-me, and Voidus definitely. I got the impression Mailliw planned on being finished long before Saturday, and I'm not sure about anyone else.

I'd actually kind of love to see Funtimes and Obliteration in the same room just to see how they'd react to one another. So, TwiLyght: would you think of us opening a Firefight spoiler thread on the Reckoners RPG board? Would that be too much of a temptation? I was just thinking it'd be helpful to have an open forum for discussion as different players finish the novel. If you'd rather we not spoiler-fy the board, we can have an extended PM conversation and invite new people as they finish.

Hmm. We'll call the discontinuities "small-medium," then. I imagined the exact same thing. Though the idea of Funtimes turning his trenchcoat into a pink cape sprinkled with rhinestones is hilarious enough to counteract the nightmare fuel.

It... depends on how you define "small." I think much of Sam's backstory has been entirely negated by canon, unless I can work my way around some of the details established by the novel. I can't get much more specific than that without giving everything away, though. So we'll just soldier on and refrain from completely panicking until you've finished the book. What exactly did you see on the spoiler board?

Nighthound finally met his Nightmare Retardant. A few other details will probably wreak havoc with a few Epic's backstories. Once you've finished the book you can lead us through this troubled time, and tell us whether we should retcon everything or defiantly wallow in our non-canonocity. I loved it! Personally I felt Steelheart was a little better, at least in its organization, but I loved the sequel as well. There were a heck of a lot of WHAM moments. I'm considering re-reading both Reckoners books in a row now.
