  1. Some of the sweetest moments of the book concern the young terrorist and his love interest from a war-torn nation arguing about what the best gun for murdering state officials is. That book is intense. Not as intense as The Wizard of Oz, but still pretty hardcore like you said.
  2. Of course, this is the same author who wrote a book about an orphan who joins a gang of domestic terrorists in an attempt to assassinate the governor of Chicago and later New York City, so it's hardly surprising.
  3. I think I know what book you're talking about. Doesn't he end up starting a cult while the girl murders a shepherd?
  4. Yikes. You read some edgy stuff, Twi. You should try Mistborn, by Brandon Sanderson. It's a much more pleasant work of literature.
  5. Clearly he writes AU Foe Yay fics about Vondra/Koschei. Also, I took a quiz on that Brony site, and apparently I am most like Fluttershy with a heavy percentage in the Twilight Sparkle and Applejack range.
  6. Initiating anti-lynching protocol!
  7. Err... yes. Pretty high chance, now that you've mentioned it. I'll try to get that up today.
  8. I've been pecked by chickens, rammed by cows, and bitten by goats. Fortuity has no idea what he's in for.
  9. Does his name start with "N," end with "ighthound," and is it used in a popular "and then _____ died" meme?
  10. . Dang. Agreed, cheers for Edgedancer and his studious stamina:
  11. Hey, your reasonable statement is getting in the way of a perfectly good rift between Sanderfans! ... I don't blame them, and I don't think any of us actually think poorly of anyone who asks Cosmere questions at a Firefight signing. We're just venting since it strikes us as frustrating that there are so many Cosmere WoBs while we have barely any Fractured States worldbuilding to work off of in the RP here.
  12. It's for your own good.
  13. "What does [DATA EXPUNGED] carry in her bandolier? Bullets or spheres?" To know who I'm DATA EXPUNGING, look in the spoiler tag. @Twi: I'm not sure what the timeframe for the last one was. I can go find out, though.
  14. My ideal would be another Q&A like the last one he did, where he logs on and answers three or four questions from everyone who posts within a certain timeframe. (If there are too many people, he might have to limit the questions to one apiece though.) That would give the Cosmere fans the opportunity to ask what's really nagging at them, while giving us a golden window of opportunity to score prime Reckonerverse answers. I would ask Reckoners questions. I do have one Cosmere question, related to my first-ever theory on the forum, but it's still not as important to me as a simple question like "Are there any Epic despots in the western US" would be. Basically, Cosmere WoBs are always fascinating, but there's not much to do with them besides applying them to high-intensity theorizing. We can put every Reckonerverse WoB to some good use here, even if it's just in a passing mention or even a pony comic.
  15. Argh. In a way I get it--if I were at a Rithmatist signing, for instance, I'd have a hard time refraining from bombarding him with Reckonerverse questions. (Because to be bluntly honest, The Rithmatist is my least favorite of his books. Still light years better than anything I could write, and it enthralled me cover to cover, but I didn't find it as incredimazible as his other works.) Still though. We have so few questions, and they could all be answered in a minute. I really wish that someday he'll do another Q&A on the forum.
  16. Agreed. And the comic itself is great! Not one person asked about Night's Sorrow. Not one person.
  17. The Metal's as awesomely horrible as always, by the way.
  18. Being fans of Brandon Sanderson, we suffer a terrible curse even as we enjoy his blessings. The author we adore creates brilliantly, breathtakingly well-designed worlds. We fall in love with his worlds. We wish to explore them to the fullest extent. We wish to see more of them than even his prolific novel-writing can sate. One world that I and many others have fallen in love with is the world of the Reckoners. If you're on this board then you've likely read at least Steelheart; I think we've all gaped in awe at the vividly realized world of heroes and tyrannical supervillains that Sanderson weaved for us. To be honest, my heart fills with sadness whenever I contemplate how we will only be treated to three total novels set in this world. I weep at the thought of how much of the Reckoners' world must by necessity be forever unseen. Darn it, Kobold, I hear you saying, why are you depressing us? Why are you pointing out these sad, sad things! Well my friends, I am saying them because I've been doctoring my melancholy with a vivid fantasy that I'd like to share with you: "The Illustrated Guide to Epics." Great authors like Robert Jordan and George R. R. Martin put out compendiums detailing the histories and landscapes of their worlds. What if Brandon Sanderson created a similar compendium of the Reckonerverse? While his massive workload might very well prohibit this, I can't help but give a wistful sigh at the idea. (And rest assured I'd lay down good money to read it. If you see this, Mr. Ahlstrom, be sure to tell your employer that I said that. ) A few things I'd like to see in such a compendium, if one were ever published: An in-universe point of view; the book could be written in the form of David's notes about various Epics, detailing both his categorization system and the amount of knowledge he was able to accumulate on them. Bonus points if his (in)famous metaphors are brought up at least once--"Obliteration melted San Diego like a scoop of buttery ice cream laid on top of a nuclear reactor while a giant hairdryer blows on it," for instance. A detailed map of the Fractured States, marking the territories of various Epic tyrannies. We know that Steelheart and the Coven at least laid claim to large portions of land; wouldn't it be nice to know the boundaries to their kingdoms, or to learn about the other Epic nations scourging the land? Bountiful information on the many Epics known to David. Definitely more detailed accounts of Epics we've seen in the books, like Steelheart, Nightwielder, or Newton, but I'd also like to see bios of Epics who are either mentioned only in passing or not heard of at all, such as the Snowfall, the Pink Pinkness, or the nameless Epics responsible for the destruction of Oregon. And last but not least, a general overview of how the world in general responded to Epics. Have all the world's countries succumbed to their tyranny? Are there still human strongholds in the world? Those are just a few things I'd like to see in an official guide to the Reckonerverse. Does anyone else have anything they'd really like to see?
  19. Yeah, there's not a lot I wouldn't give for a map of the Fractured States. The Bandersnatch's worldbuilding is incredibly detailed--I'm still convinced that he actually planned out precisely what happened in Oregon before he wrote the reference in Firefight. So I'd love to hear about what despots and factions he envisioned as inhabiting the Fractured States, both because his worldbuilding is awesome and because of how helpful it would be for our RP. Seriously. We need an Illustrated Guide to Epics. I'm tempted to make a topic for it just so fans can gush about what they'd most like details about. (And to potentially draw the attention of a certain man whose name begins with "Peter" and ends with "Ahlstrom." ) Yes, I read that in Antonio Banderas' voice. And yes, I'm still in the throes of imagining the "What Happened in Luthadel" that could have been.
  20. Altermind I can see as a powerful half-skaa Soother or Rioter, who uses a combination of his Allomancy and hallucinogenic drugs to rule a crime den as a vicious illusionist. Quota is obviously the world's slontziest Soother, and Reader is Breeze's evil half-brother. Augh. That question is awesome. You should post it so maybe someone can ask it next signing.
  21. A random thought I just had. If Funtimes were a Mistborn in the Final Empire, would she wear a pink mistcloak covered in glitter? Would Nathan be a skaa that she rescued from a sadistic nobleman?
  22. That's a bug we've known about for a while now. Unfortunately none of us has a better answer than "forum wizards;" reckon someone should shoot Chaos a PM an Alan?
  23. No, it's nothing like that. Really, it's not that big of a deal. To admit an embarrassing truth... I'm a little bit squeamish about spiders, and there's a person with a close-up portrait of a spider's face in all its many-eyed glory as his profile picture. The guy's awesome and I don't want to miss his posts, so I just want to know if I can ignore his avatar while still being able to see his comments and hear his opinions. That's all.
  24. And thus, the Metal's reputation stays as indestructible as his skin. Lightwards, meanwhile, has nothing to shield his reputation from the songs he sings in the shower.
  25. Agreed. I personally doubt very seriously that "Hotlanta" will be the genuine name of the city.
