Did Stealheart Know His Weakness?
Kobold King replied to High prince of geeks's topic in The Reckoners
I don't have any intelligent remarks to add just yet, but I just want to say the typo in the title is cracking me up as I imagine Steelheart as a handsome heartthrob who "steals the hearts" of all Newcago's women. -
I too am Pi-ically impaired. After 3.14159265 I'm completely stumped, and I only know those digits because of the catchy chant my brother came up with when he was trying to memorize it. But in the spirit of things, here's a Pi pie.

Re-reading the epilogue to Firefight this morning reminded me that while it was an important mystery to the book, fairly few fans have lent their brains to debating who really killed Sam the Reckoner in Babilar. Even by the last paragraph of the novel Mizzy is convinced that it was Megan--but was it? What do you think?

I haven't named a lot of characters, but I do name a lot of alien races. My best method yet is simply pulling words from foreign languages and tweaking them slightly to make them sound cooler. For instance, I've got a race of blue millipedes called the "Skordyr," which I got from the Icelandic word for "insect." I've also got a race with facial features reminiscent of a perpetual grin, and so I called them "Risu," derived from a Latin word meaning "smile." I don't know if that helps, but it's all I have to offer.

I gave Iconoclast a terror-upvote back when he was on the "If you were an Epic" thread, and now I give him another. He's definitely awesome, though. Here are a few questions I have about him: Does he have a limit to the number of ghouls he can control at once? Is there any way for a ghoul to be returned to normal once turned? How much destruction has he wreaked before entering The Dalles? Is it likely that the lorists working for The Dalles City Guard would have heard of him before now?

It took me too long to find PM's, so I started deleting the ones that only have a couple of posts.

Is he online long enough to view/respond to messages? If so, we should try contacting him first. In other news, the wonderful Little Wilson has agreed to ask Reckonerverse questions next time she's at a signing. We need to put together a list of high-priority questions. Any suggestions?

Hello, Sharders. Kobold King here for a special awareness message. In the spirit of keeping things brief, I'll get straight to the point. The experience of meeting an author as cherished as Brandon Sanderson must be a phenomenal one--I can only suppose so, as I, like so many other devoted Sanderfans, have never managed to attend a convention. Let me assure you that this post is ultimately one of envy; we envy those of you who attend conventions, and even more those who make a regular habit of attending conventions and asking multitudes of questions about their favorite novels. A source of mild frustration for many of us, however, is that a great many of the questions these most dedicated of Sanderfans ask are of interest only to the most Realmatics-knowledgeable esotericists of the fanbase. These questions, while brilliantly devised and always elliciting fascinating responses, are not exactly equally intriguing to all members of the fanbase. Some of them seem to the laymen the equivalent of "How many Seons can dance on the head of a pin?" Nowadays we have Cosmere WoBs stacked upon Cosmere WoBs. We know more about the three Realms, forms of Investiture, Splinters of Shards, and Cognitive Shadows than any of the Five Scholars could dream of. And we're constantly assured by our beloved author that there's still more information where that came from! Yes, the scholarly inclined Sanderfan has a wealth of knowledge to draw upon for theories and speculation comparable to the treasure of the God King of Hallandren. Yet on the other end of the spectrum, let's look at another of Brandon's marvelous worlds: that of his Reckoners books. Less popular than the Cosmere novels and written for young adults, Steelheart and its sequel Firefight introduce a post-apocalyptic world in which supervillains have taken over the planet. Unlike the Cosmere, which is an epic-length saga that we've barely gotten halfway through so far, the Reckoners trilogy is two-thirds complete, yet is still infinitely more mysterious as a setting than Roshar and Scadrial have ever been. As a member of the semi-official Reckoners RPG down the forum from here, I can personally attest to the gaps in our knowledge of this extraordinary setting. We know so little of the rules of magic that many of us are morbidly certain that every character we've made thus far is doomed to be deemed impossible by the final novel; we know so little of the setting's politics that we dare not stray three steps from our setting state for fear of the great unknown regions that dominate the world. I would never dream of asking a devoted Cosmere fan not to delve into the secrets that fill his heart with joy. I would never dream of asking any of you to sacrifice something so precious for the sake of our curiosity or for our RP. But I wish to humbly beseech everyone who may attend a signing to keep us in mind. Even as single answer to a Reckonerverse question could shine a brilliant light through the obscurity that still dominates much of the setting, and the smallest setting detail that's revealed will be cherished and appreciated more than you can know. So if you're attending a signing with a list of Cosmere questions a mile long, would you be so kind as to remember the less-fortunate fans who beg at your feet for boons? If you're at your fifth signing and armed with a multitude of questions about Cognitive Shadows or Allomantic time bubbles, would you be so generous as to put one of them aside long enough to ask how much of California the Epic Snowfall governs, or what the ratio between Epics and normal humans looks like in the Fractured States of America? On behalf of Reckoners fans everywhere, I thank you for taking the time to read this message. As a final piece of incentive, let me assure you that I'll make it my personal mission to incite abundant upvotes for anyone who returns victorious from a signing with a Reckonerverse setting question answered.

I'm glad the operation went well. Though for the record, if anyone can't figure out any questions to ask about the Reckonerverse, you can always come to us for suggestions. Practically anything he tells us about the Epic despots we haven't seen yet is useful, especially if we can get info about the tyrants on the West Coast.

So either we allow them or we don't. I vote we keep them, as technically those Epics do age. They're just "de-aged" as part of their power profiles every so often. This isn't a Reckonerverse question, but the Bandersnatch did answer somebody who asked whether something his character had done magic-wise in a Mistborn RPG was valid: Can we use that to justify our canon-defying stunts in this RP?

Welcome to the RP, Blackhoof. I'm the deputy GM for The Dalles, but it's primarily a title I use to make myself look important in front of newcomers. Can't wait to hear about your characters! Concerning what's on everyone's minds--the AMA--does the affirmation that all Epics age mean that I need to tweak Lightwards a bit? The way I have it worked out now, he ages normally but is "reset" into a middle-aged body every time he resurrects.

Even among Christians like myself, there's debate concerning whether Christ was omniscient while in human form. He had a human brain, after all, so your question, to me at least, wouldn't prove anything even if He told you "I have no idea who you are." Back on topic. I'd contact Captain James Cook and would tell him that it's super-ultra-important to the future of the British Empire that he name Australia after me. Assuming he's a reasonable man, he'll realize I'm from the future and will name it anything I like to keep the British Empire intact. Meanwhile, I'll be giggling over my atlases labeled with the continent of "Jaredonia."

Only if you mean Cosmere questions. We have enough Cosmere WoBs to fill books of their own, but we still practically nothing of the Reckonerverse or the world of the Rithmatist outside of what we've seen in the novels.

That comment fills me with hope. Thanks. I saw that, but not before I'd already posted my question. He RAFOed the other guy, so I guess I don't have much chance of getting that one answered--but with any luck, I might get a detail or two about Night's Sorrow, and maybe a couple of Epic names we haven't heard before.

Agh! In a desperate attempt to distract myself from that fact that it's been nearly twenty minutes since the last AMA reply, here's a picture of Miror B, the only antagonist from the Pokemon games to have his own disco-themed theme music.

If he doesn't get to the question about Epics on the West Coast at least, I'll be tempted to lead a separatist movement advocating that we rebel against canon and create our own Epics for California and Washington. What's your username there? Winter Cloud or Pir2h?
