I got all but 2, and I haven't even seen most of those movies.

So...nsa May Be At It Again!
Kobold King replied to Surgebound Rainspren's topic in General Discussion
I have nothing to hide from the NSA. It's not like my hours looking at automatic rifles, ski masks, Kevlar body armor, and tourist maps of the White House are SUSPICIOUS or anything. -
This gonna be good. This is pretty much my default reaction when I see any question at a signing or AMA that's been asked a hundred times already.

I pity those of us who don't have little siblings and never learned the art of psychological manipulation.

"...Backtrack?" "Yes, Emperor Lightwards?" "...Why did you put a red 'X' and a frowning face over Mount Hood on every map of Oregon in the building?" "Because it's so scary it needs an 'X,' and it makes me frown."

Statistically, most members of the RP could trounce me in a fight. Reader is most definitely deserving of his pantsing. Also, pretty soon I'd like to bring Backtrack back into the clinic's waiting room. His panic attack at seeing all these new Epics, Reader included, should be pretty satisfying in its own way.

I'm moderately scrawny, but to be entirely truthful and strictly non-boasting, I can noticeably flex my biceps. (It's all the mulch buckets I carry. ) I still have to figure out exactly what that reaction will be. This is the man who lectured Autumn on her consumption of pumpkin donuts, after all. It wouldn't to do let this scene pass without an Epic overreaction.

First Winter. Then you. Now mail-mi. More and more I'm feeling like the wimpiest wimp on the block. "This is not a happy place!" --Arsenal, all the time.

I would definitely upvote those stories, if you're inclined to share them. I'll consider it. I live out in a small Texas town, though, and I've never seen classes available anywhere.

How is it that you can impress me with your skill and knowledge every time we have a conversation? I've never taken martial arts classes, so this is all completely new stuff to me. If you got the chance to do so, would you start taking Shudokan classes again with the goal of acquiring a black belt? I'll teach myself self-discipline... tomorrow, maybe.

So, forgive my ignorance... but I am correct in stating that a brown belt in Shudokan does, in fact, make TwiLyght a badchull? Or "If you don't live up to it, you should remove your own vital organs." It makes sense that Ninjitsu would be a more offensive style. Have you ever used Shudokan for legitimate self-defense, if you don't mind me asking? (Also, if you're at all interested in medieval Japan, you should check out the historical fiction novels The Samurai's Tale and The Boy and the Samurai, both by Erik Christian Haugaard. They're fascinating looks at the Sengoku Period of Japan, and as works of literature it's hard not to tear up from reading them at some point or another. The Boy and the Samurai is one of the first novels I ever read, and I love it just as much now as I did when I was a little koboldling. )

I've never been sure what to think about the ninja vs samurai debate. I mean, it's true that ninjas were assassins, but they were also one of the only communities in feudal Japan to have a halfway democratic society. It's also true that the samurai upheld a strict code of honor, but code of honor permitted for the random decapitation of peasants for looking at you the wrong way. There were a lot of shades of grey in medieval Japan, is what I'm saying. I know this because I once read it in a book. Out of curiosity, how far along in training does a brown belt indicate? Is it closer to the rookie or master end of the belt spectrum?

Didn't that martial art originate with ninjas? They were paid assassins, after all.

TwiLyght is, essentially, a samurai. I don't know why this surprises me. (What kind of martial art is it? One that emphasizes fists, feet, a combination of the two...?)

I'll just assume you could take me in a fight. I don't want to be that goon from the movies that always gets his butt kicked out of arrogance just to show how badchull the weak-looking protagonist is. Also, guys. Did you know that there's a PMV for "Party X Party"?

Fair points. I'd love to see someone like Jack London put Dex-Starr's story in writing, though; The Call of the Wild and White Fang are both amazing pieces of literature centered entirely around dogs. London proved that some of the most beautiful pieces of literature in the history of fiction can center entirely around animals. ...But I suppose we're off topic, aren't we?

Well. That would be a twist. My one quibble is, why would Backtrack be necessary? Surely there are photographs of Koschei available somewhere... right?
