  1. We have a topic for talking about it here, if you're interested.
  2. I'm still wondering what Phaedrus' long-term plans are. Once he's done tracking down and murdering the Reckoners, does he intend to carve out a fiefdom for himself? Will he continue assassinating other High Epics, but on the side of Evil this time? Also, David claims to be one of the very last Reckoners--has Phaedrus killed all of the others already? (I doubt we've seen the last of the Mizzy/Megan conflict, but I hope it doesn't take up much of the next book.)
  3. I adore that system of necromancy, Joe. Do you intend to write a story about this world? If so, I'd definitely read it. If you're looking for a more culturally appropriate name, the Corporeal Undead category on Wikipedia could potentially be useful. (I'm particularly fond of the ro-lang, the Tibetan form of zombies.) That sounds fascinating. Especially the twist on the superstition--is that still a part of the story?
  4. Ah. Like I said, I'll see what I can do. Sorry.
  5. I'll try. Like I said, I'm really not feeling right today. Is there a particular "due by" rush I need to be concerned with, or is it just the average example of me holding everybody up?
  6. So a free excerpt from Calamity came out today, showing us a rough draft of what may be the first couple of pages in the book. What did you guys think?
  7. I did use the kandra and the Parshendi as examples. Though to nitpick a bit--Mistborn trilogy spoilers below-- The Parshendi are totally aliens, though. Humanoid but still way more alien than anything on Star Trek. I'd like to see races like the Parshendi, but in space.
  8. The part that really got me was the prohibition against sharing the file. That was what allowed me to hop aboard this emotional roller coaster: Initial panic at not having subscribed to the newsletter >Hope when I realize there's still time to subscribe >Frustration and sadness when the captcha fails >Immense gratitude and relief when friend offers to share the excerpt >Crushing disappointment and surging anger when senseless rules prohibit you friend from acting on kindness. Ugh. This is all getting very First World Problems-y, so I'll try to just let it go now. It was just an unnecessary frustration added to an already crappy day. I'll try to get a Backtrack post up soon. I would have been very tempted to downvote you for this a few hours ago, just so you know.
  9. I'm trying to think of a completely spoiler-free way of saying I didn't actually predict anything, I just quoted an obscure WoB. And, uh... sorry for kind of losing my cool above. I'm feeling pretty crappy today, in part because of insomnia and the sweltering heat I'm suffering in right now, so the fear of being left behind during another one of these limited releases unlocked a bit of rage. I was actually going to come back and hide the post, but then Comatose replied to it so it would have looked kind of weird... so, anyway, sorry.
  10. * grumbles about the limited-edition Epic profiles in the back of Mitosis I never had access to * I love Brandon Sanderson, but I flat-out despise his limited release policies. It might garner a bit of publicity in some avenues, but it alienates the countless fans he has that never get a chance to access the material. We can't even count on our friends to supply us with second-hand information because he puts lockdowns on the new content. Ugh. I respect his wishes--grudgingly--but I strongly disagree with them, and I think they ultimately do more harm than good. Thanks for offering to share the excerpt, Twi. You're a good friend, regardless of the red tape that ties your hands.
  11. It's resolved. My mom managed to get it and forwarded it to me, and I managed to get the captcha working when using another computer. So I'm subscribed now. Thanks for the help. It still would have been a lot simpler if those pointless non-sharing rules weren't in place.
  12. This really sucks, considering it's his software that's broken. I won't lie--I'm actually pretty ticked off about this.
  13. I'm going to subscribe as soon as I can, so it's not like he'd lose a subscriber. And my mother who's already signed up for the newsletter didn't even receive her copy. What I'm saying is that my conscience would not twinge if I were to receive that excerpt in the meanwhile as I struggle with the buggy captcha software.
  14. Blaze said that the newsletter as a whole is meant to be kept exclusive to those who subscribe--but then, I CAN'T subscribe without contacting Brandon directly.
  15. Whenever I try to sign up, the captcha fails. Did you get to see the Calamity segment?
  16. ...Apparently a segment of Calamity chapter 1 was released as part of Brandon's newsletter. The newsletter that I'm not subscribed to. I'll... I'll be in my bunk.
  17. I walk away, and pretend I never heard that sentence.
  18. I like to think the Elements of Harmony would self-activate to wipe Nighthound off the map. He'd be best served sticking to terrorizing the Diamond Dog kingdoms.
  19. There was life before the Shattering, right? So there could be alien races that can trace their origins to pre-Shardic times.
  20. Holy sparkplugs, I didn't even think of that. I don't know if Iconoplast would be willing to work with Lightwards, but it'd be an interesting (not to mention terrifying) alliance. Questions removed. If we keep this up, "What Happened in Australia" might actually happen.
  21. Exactly. He's the kind of character who'd bend the overreaching RP-arc around himself. Which isn't at all a bad thing--I think a campaign with him at its center would be awesome--but it does mean we'll have a hard time incorporating him into The Dalles, much less Portland. As for Dallesport: am I the only one freaking out about the fact that we're legitimately considering an RP thread that's not set in Oregon?
  22. I'm going to be disappointed if the space trilogy doesn't include at least one honest-to-goodness alien race. BrandSand would be great at those if the kandra, spren, and Parshendi are anything to go by.
  23. I agree. Iconoclast would arguably be the most powerful Epic in Portland, or at least in the upper tier. And his modus operandi ensures that he'd utterly annihilate all current plot lines. Posted the FUNTIMES list on the Events board, by the way. Thanks for helping me put it together!
  24. It's a good thing I never visit the wiki without burning copper.
