  1. I think this theory has merit, Kads. Makromag had some very similar thoughts on Allomantic gold/Allomantic electrum awhile back.
  2. It's not 100% clear. The MAG (Trustworthy and Right ) says skin-to-skin, and that may well be the case, but there is a case to be made (by me, as turns out ) that you could do it through someone's clothing. Thank you for your sacrifice Darnam, but I think we're fine here. Why include Thugs at all if that were the case? Literally anyone would be able to slot into "deal with Coinshots, Lurchers, and X" just as well, or better yet just say "Coinshots and Lurchers" and call it a day, since they're the only ones you need to worry the Aluminum directly changing the actions/options of.
  3. Hoid isn't there, according to Brandon, but I'm with bart in saying that I think Shadesmar still connects just about everywhere with enough life to have people.
  4. Good idea. Done.
  5. "What happens when a Thug is shot with an aluminum bullet, or stabbed with an aluminum knife?"
  6. So I just spent an indecent amount of time hunting this quote down, and thought I'd share it with the forums since I don't recall any discussion of the relevant passage when AoL was released. Source: So the line in AoL about aluminum bullets being useful against Thugs is definitely certainly not an error. Anyone care to discuss the implications of how aluminum might be useful against a Thug? Disrupting their burning? Ignoring the extra toughness pewter gives their bodies?
  7. Sorry then, I suppose I misinterpreted you. I guess I went down the wrong mental trail when you said "Ruin clearly and obviously reads Zane's mind," interpreting it as you attempting to point out an in-text, canonized fact rather than a typo. So far as Zane's perspective being a fever dream, perhaps I failed to be clear in what I meant. I meant that it could be quite possible that Zane unconsciously mutters or mouths words to himself at times at times. Not noticing an unconscious tic is a horse of a different color from simply perceiving the entire world wrong. Aether's explanation is more likely, though, I'll freely admit.
  8. The MAG (ever a trustworthy source) has lerasium alloys overwrite other abilities: So a thug who burned tin-lerasium would lose his pewter-burning.
  9. Right you are! Sorry, I messed up my terminology. For some reason, I thought "tinder box" meant "box you carry around a slowly-burning coal/match in". So, to (very much) clarify, I meant to say that you could start a massive fire from a tiny one and the shades would be cool with it. My mistake again, it seems. I jumped to conclusions when interpreting what you meant. My apologies on both counts.
  10. My impression from the text is that you could use a tinder box to set a building on fire, and they'd be fine. It was the creation of a fundamentally new fire that upset the shades. I think we're better off taking refuge in Realmatics than coming up with pseud-physical explanations.
  11. Darnam, it's settled. Brandon confirmed directly that Ruin doesn't read minds. Now it's down to reconciling any seeming contradictions with that fact. Aether and I have both provided plausible alternatives to Ruin reading Zane's mind. Perhaps other plausible alternatives exist. But in no world will we settle on an answer of the form "Well, I guess Ruin can read minds after all".
  12. Hence "Zane-the-crazy." Unreliable narration is possible.
  13. They could have had that conversation a thousand times, or Zane-the-crazy could have muttered or sub-vocalized it.
  14. Sel. Dalinar will eventually acquire another set of Plate/Blade.
  15. I think most of us have been assuming that he died (very conveniently, I'll admit) of natural causes and TenSoon just took advantage of the opportunity. No, he reads minds because he's a combo of Ruin and Preservation. Historically, Ruin could "write" and Preservation could "read". This was answered about a year ago.
  16. On metal: It's referred to as metal in "Starfalls" and "Eshonai" in WoK. Brandon has said it looks "metallic". He also treated questions about Allomantically affecting it seriously, answering in terms of Investiture rather than Plate just not being metal.
  17. On a phone so no citations at the moment, but just so you know: Plate is metal. Feruchemical charges at likely stored in separate parts of the metal from the Hemalurgic charges, rather than orthogonally overlying them. Objects can and do get "full" of Investiture; Shardblades, for instance, don't have enough capacity left over to be used as spikes.
  18. Considering that that guy had been working for Silence for more than a decade, I'd say not. As to whether Hoid is in there at all: Peter has said that Brandon has said that Hoid doesn't appear, but even Peter's not convinced of that...
  19. Interesting thoughts. There is a slight problem though: Though your system is quite distinct in many important ways, you might be accused of aping Brent Week's Lightbringer series.
  20. UPDATE: Lady was kind enough to get us a RAFO on this question: Source:
  21. @Lady Glad to hear he'll be okay, our thoughts are with you guys. As to the questions: Thank you (well, you're husband, I suppose ) very much for asking my questions. The answer to the AonDor one basically confirms a little theory of mine (so that's nice). As for the Lashing question: Well, I guess getting a RAFO is softened a bit by getting two "good questions" on it. :/ And so the debate rages on! P.S. Was that your husband dressed as Kaladin?
  22. I think you're right here, but can't find the citation at the moment.
  23. No, not likely. Source:
  24. If you really want to be freaked out, check out some of Phantom Monstrosity's work. The man's unreal in how fast and thoroughly he cites stuff. Myself, I have a two-fold system: First, I have an okay memory when it comes to bits and pieces of quotes. This means that I can usually get away with a fairly specific Google. As it turns out, that didn't work this time, but Vortaan was correct in using the word "disturbance", since I recalled that specific word as well, and so I just did a Theoryland search for it. Also, for the quotes I had a really hard time tracking down (like TLR's "old person time") or reference a lot (Cognitive health), I usually make a Bookmark in a folder on my browser. I probably have about a hundred of those, total.
