  1. Notice: On semi-hiatus until after WoR's release for spoiler-avoidance reasons.

  2. Sorry for that, Peng. Full disclosure, all: A fair amount of the strategy behind the general "use Peng as a hub of absolute trust" was my idea. Peng got in touch with me on Day 1 and we hashed it out behind the scenes before his big reveal. So I'm partially to blame both for Peng's big workload (thanks for putting in so much work, btw ) and for our current state of embuggerance . ---- I agree with Porridge that muggles were more likely targets on Cessie's part. Another full disclosure: I'm a muggle. Please don't lynch me.
  3. @Meta Okay then, so at least Uber-Pewter was passive. With "some", that leaves Copper and Tin as realistic possibilities. So Team Evil could just know everything.
  4. No Porridge, it does not mean that. At worst, most of our daytime conversation is compromised. The nighttime info is still safe.
  5. Nice write-up, Meta. So. Uber-Tin. Well This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules. Let's do damage control, shall we? I doubt Cessie was reading many PM's at night (or any, I think). Using Uber-Tin would be mutually exclusive with any other action, and I think that the Inquisitor acted every night. Someone chime in if there was a night when she could have been inactive. So that leaves Cessie reading day-time PM's. Not all of them, though: I doubt she chose Tin on Day 1 because there wasn't much of interest, but either way anything she saw wasn't interesting. The other days, after Peng came out, are more problematic. She likely used Tin every single day after that. Until Day 6 (the first vote for Cessie). She had to use Pewter that day, so no Tin. Day 7 was probably Tin for the last time. So just about anything sent before Day 2 or during any of the Nights is likely safe, but any other day besides Day 7 should be assumed to be entirely in the hands of the Spiked, of which there are 4. I can't recall: were there any on Day 3 (the first time there were any Spiked) who suddenly became vocal about PM'ing Peng our roles? That might be a very nice target to focus on. EDIT: Start of Day 3, for reference's sake. I'm to bed for now, though.
  6. Motion to shorten the day by as many hours as we lose if Meta posts the write-up immediately? There cannot possibly be a question here.
  7. As I mentioned a few days ago, it has been my intent for the last while to go on a short hiatus from the forums once WoR's release became imminent, so as to avoid spoilers. With the Amazon leak of that 7th chapter and Brandon apparently reading the Epilogue of WoR at LTUE, I begin to fear that a critical mass of "information some random Sharder could accidentally mention and so spoil the book for me" has been reached. As such, I shall be taking my leave of the site for three weeks or so, until I've read WoR in an unspoiled fashion. I'll be filtering out all email alerts (including for PM's) and only visiting the Sanderson Elimination boards (at least until Kukri dies ), and that infrequently. If anyone desperately needs to get in touch with me, I have an email address listed on my profile, and I do intend to keep an eye on that. ---- I also invite anyone else taking a similar vacation to post on this thread and let the forum as a whole know, so that everyone knows we're gone on purpose and that Brandon hasn't ascended us.
  8. "Thir be SPOILERS ahead!" *Unfollows thread.*
  9. It's fairly definite that they do have a group-kill ability. From the description of UberSteel: "This ability counts towards the team kill that the Spiked have."
  10. Has anyone figured out the Tineye's message yet, by the way? It looks like it might be a punch card, but I don't even know where to start trying to decode it.
  11. A fairly plausible theory on its face, one that has been raised before. He's not, though. Source:
  12. Could we perhaps get another round of "this is who I suspect" from Peng before the Night ends? I'm not getting a good feeling about his continued survival.
  13. *Whistles* (But seriously guys, I need some reportage here. Especially with the massive surge in activity lately, I can't spot every oath myself.)
  14. As some of you may know, Alaxel is... on an enforced break from the forums for the next while. The circumstances surrounding his absence aside, Alaxel got in touch with me via email (apparently I'm one of the few people who has an email address on record ) and asked me to post some info on his behalf. I am ever eager for new WoB, so I agreed to serve as his agent in this matter. Without further ado: Alaxel got a personalized copy of WoK, and written in it was "Odium and Hoid were once friends." I would like to publicly thank Alaxel for sharing this info, and say that I take this as a good sign that we can turn over a new leaf and avoid hurtful/heated discourse going forward. ----- EDIT: So far as analysis goes, this indicates that Hoid's hatred of Rayse now is the fruit of some poisoned friendship rather than a lifelong rivalry.
  15. This is fairly plausible, and basically in line with a pretty widely-espoused theory on the matter.
  16. Harakeke here was the one to crack the code initially, so I don't think he needs much help understanding how the script works.
  17. Spren bonds are Spiritual in nature (WoB, don't have to time to hunt down the link just now), so I don't think that question will bear much fruit.
  18. I don't really buy Team Evil actually trying the Gambit you propose. At best it buys Cessie 1 day's freedom from suspicion (remember: anyone can be Spiked at any time), and it always costs them 1 of Cessie's lives and the foregone chance to kill a villager. Not worth it. Let's say you're right: This is all a big gambit by Team Evil that's backfired now that Shiv has finally PM'd Peng. Cessie is either a de-fanged Spiked or the Inquisitor him- (or her- actually) self. Then you should be fully on board with us getting to the bottom of this as quickly as possible. The route to doing so just so happens to go through your dead body. A noble sacrifice, if ever there was one. If you're innocent, then Cessie dies tomorrow, bar-none. But in the meantime we can use our Seeking (if we have any left) to focus on other suspects. We'll have payed 1 innocent life to "seek" Cessie during the day, then, essentially. --- If we didn't have Peng's word on the PM's, and for some reason just had a choice between 2 people, one of whom we knew was Spiked for sure, then it would still be in our interest to kill one of them. As it is, though, we have significant reason to kill Shiv over Cessie, so we go from a coinflip to a fairly well-based choice.
  19. EDIT: Misread your post. It is a vague possibility that Cessie attacked herself and that's just how Meta narrated it. Very vague. Or that the Inquisitor can both convert and kill in the night and for some reason hasn't done so yet. I agree: Highly unlikely. You're right that it's even more unlikely considering how Meta narrated it and just common-sense on how the rules likely work. I just want to be sure to acknowledge the possibility.
  20. Yeah, sorry Shiv, but I'm pretty sure you're Spiked just from your behavior at this point. In no world is not killing either of you the best choice. Either you or Cessie should die tonight, since it's guaranteed one of you is Spiked. Sitting and waiting is counterproductive. ---- Even his suspicious behavior aside, let's look at what would have to have happened for Shiv to be innocent: The only way that he is not Spiked is the following scenario: 1) Cessie is Spiked 2) Cessie was an Unsnapped who Snapped upon being Spiked (1/4 of that happening upon Spikeage) -And she happens to be a Thug. This is necessary for a plan such as he proposes, but not really a factor in terms of probability 3) Team Evil can attack their own, and did 4) They actually did all this convoluted nonsense for the express purpose of offing exactly one villager (Shiv), at which point, if he's innocent, Cessie would immediately die the next round. So this versus the simple solution of Shiv being Spiked? I'd kill Shiv first. If he's innocent, then Cessie dies next round and it all ends with a 1:1 trade, which is still definitely in our favor. Either Shiv or Cessie should die tonight either way, and he's the more likely suspect.
  21. Ah, a very old question that I haven't seen in quite awhile. Apparently, though, it wouldn't work. According to Brandon, the Alethi would have to build the bridges out of wood, then Soulcast them to stone, then add some ropes and whatnot for support because turning it to stone makes the bridges to heavy. I, for one, find this answer unsatisfying. As the Romans showed us, it's thoroughly possible to create free-standing stone bridges over much more challenging gaps than the chasms represent. Conclusion: Either the Alethi are truly and utterly terrible at engineering (remember, they only have to deal with 0.7 gravity on top of how easy it is to build these things on Earth) and/or Soulcasting even relatively simple structures like bridges out of thin air is very hard. Or Brandon didn't quite think it through when he thought of why there couldn't be permanent stone bridges.
