  1. Now that I've reeled you in with a ridiculous (yet intriguing) title, I will clarify my meaning. Can Spren be captured (figuratively) on film? Do mirrors reflect their images? Do they cast shadows? Or is it instead the case that only other living, Cognitively-present beings can perceive them--thta they are not fully "present" in the world? On that note, is stormlight actually light in the normal sense of the word, or is it some kind of Cognitive/Spiritual radiance that hacks into the "seeing" portion of human perception? (okay, that one's a stretch). While I'm basically betraying myself at this point, I'm tempted to think that Count Sylcula would be visible on a camera. But the question might merit some discussion, so I wanted to bring it out in the open in case anyone was secretly inclined towards being able to reveal Syl's evil nature with a well-placed mirror. Discuss!
  2. Just a quick tidbit that I found in the interview database: It was filed under the Alcatraz section, which may be why it has (to my knowledge) been missed so far. I would guess that this is going to be a plot point in the planned Warbreaker sequel, probably involved in whatever war needs to be broken next (pun! ). I also found a Mistborn factoid on the same trawl.
  3. We've had some chats about the possible natures of the Atium alloys, and I just found this tidbit in the interview database: I'm somewhat surprised by this. Theories up until now--that I know of, at least--have tended to see Atium as merely "reversing" metals, like Gold+Atium seeing someone else's potential lives instead of your own. I've even seem some alluring theories that "pure" Atium is actually an alloy of Electrum. Oh well, theories are made to be broken. Now we can ground further Atium alloy discussion in this knowledge. With that in mind, I hereby open the floor for rampant speculation as to the unique temporal effects of the Atium alloys! I'll start us off: What in the name of the Stormfather could temporal Copper do? I also found a Warbreaker factoid on the same trawl.
  4. Actually, that's more likely fodder for the "Gaz is attracting a Spren" theory (something hiding in his blindside...).
  5. I've had the experience. One time I picked it up just to fact-check something here on the forums, then I found myself reading for about two hours. Oops.
  6. What? Threads that...don't revolve around theories. That, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that... An error has occured. 7. Maybe. *Sniff* Maybe. I think the Herald's would have an incentive to share such a fact, though. I can think of half-a-dozen theological shenanigans you could pull to justify using the power of the enemy against him, or claim that Honor tries to counteract Odium's influence, which makes stormlight "neutral" or some such. As for panicking about a regular weather pattern, I think that the regularity of highstorms is actually an advantage to people not panicking. It's "like" if you had a hurricane blow through town every week: sure, you can prepare for it, and perhaps even begin to think of that weekly hurricane as inevitable, but you can easily see how your life would be better without it. And then someone comes along and tells you that this hurricane is the work of Evil and that, by beating these scary voidbringers, you can also get rid of the hurricanes. The hurricanes have always been a negative factor in your life, and will continue to be so when you learn their true origin, but the difference now is that you have a way to stop them. So, in the end, the Heralds get an even more motivated army and are also able to prove that Odium will still come back eventually for another Desolation whenever the highstorms don't stop.
  8. Not necessarily. It could be the case that both or either (but certainly at least Allomancy) don't really entail "holding" Investiture in any real amount. If the user is simply a conduit for power, then he is not himself Invested any more when he is using magic than when he is not. The user is almost certainly just a conduit for the vast majority of Allomancy, leaving the rest of Allomancy and Feruchemy to be considered. Even the more "internal" Allomantic metals--and Feruchemy--could conceivably also work on a "conduit" level. If you see Allomantic Pewter as expending Investiture to produce physical enhancement as opposed to Investing the user to produce physical enhancement, then even the most "held" powers could fail to result in a real increase in how Invested a magic user is. The same could cross-apply for Feruchemy.
  9. Tanavast talked about Odium (I think he referenced him directly) letting humanity fall to rust after they think they "won", the fight taken to the heavens with Man victorious on Roshar. If humanity knew that the highstorms were caused by Odium (because he should took credit for it, as you suggest), then the highstorms not stopping would be a bit of a hint at the ruse, no? Actually--forgive me if someone else has brought this up before--that is fairly strong evidence that Odium has no part in the highstorms, or at least is not their sole cause. The Heralds would probably have known and passed on the fact that Odium, The Enemy during the Desolations, was the one behind the highstorms, so their claim that he was defeated wouldn't have held water from the get go when the highstorms failed to stop.
  10. There are a few more Cosmerical tweets here.
  11. Thanks. EDIT: NO! (/YES!) There is another page of tweets. Just glancing through for #torchat, I saw this one: Q: Does the chasm on Sel have a counterpart in the cognitive realm? #torchat A: Yes, it does. But moving around there is really tough . . . #torchat Anything else to be seen, oh spoiler-proof ones?
  12. I still haven't read AMoL, so don't want to read the TorChat, but is there anything about Brandon's other books that was revelationated?
  13. "Well, that was unexpected."
  14. ^No, we succeeded and settled pretty definitively on "surge," though "overtap" was a close second.
  15. Yes, "priceless," but everything has a price. Like, say, a Soulcaster or seven for a Shardblade? As far as kingdom==Shardblade goes, it was actually that kingdoms have fallen for a single Blade. I would hazard that these are either small kingdoms or that the Blades are merely contributing factors and/or inciting incidents for wars, instead of the entire cause.
  16. *Adds king of nowhere to "people to avoid in dark alleys" list.*
  17. Once again: Potentially awesome. It probably isn't possible with Forging, but a version of Shai with an extra couple decades of expertise would probably come in handy.
  18. We don't know, and Brandon has RAFO'd it. It's been theorized that it strengthens the memory to the point of perfect recall.
  19. ^It could be less a case of "Troy didn't exist, fool" and more a case of "El Dorado didn't exist, fool" on the scholar's part. Allegory and whatnot.
  20. "A wild Lurker appears!" Seriously, though, welcome to the forums . I'm glad you took the time to look at Brandon's work outside the WoT. You can head over to the Introductions section and introduce yourself if you want a cookie/waffle (but definitely not a spike in the face, because the Admins totally aren't spiking people left and right or hiding spikes inside delicious treats. Whatever gave you that idea? )
  21. I wasn't judging, so no worries. Your reputation is as pristine as ever. Yes, but the idea I'm holding onto right now is that you have to act (or at least be capable of acting) on a decision for that decision to count, once again pulling an inordinate amount of inspiration from Aristotle. So a Kaladin who was tied to a chair his entire life with no hope of escape won't attract Syl no matter what "decisions" he makes.

    Pewter

Pewter is fairly unique here, actually. It's one of the few Allomantic powers which lines up with its Feruchemical counterpart (along with Tin), so I don't see how storing Strength from Allomantic Pewter is necessarily akin to compounded Health from gold. "Allomancer Health" can only be gained by compounding existing Feruchemical Health, while the extra strength gained from normal storage when burning Pewter doesn't need to involve compounding.
  23. But still not aware enough to consciously give up their Breath (can't find the link just now), so Lifeless are qualitatively different from humans and possibly interact with extraneous invested Breath differently.
  24. Ah, I see. Well, there's a decent chance that people will swear in some way whenever they see a TvTropes link--because they just lost several hours of their lives right there--which is why I laughed evilly.
  25. Yes, but only "90%".
