I must disagree, knight. I would say that the 10 orders each have their own interpretation/expression of "honor", but it's relatively objective for each of them.

Honestly Aluminum should just burn for its Feruchemical effect, given how all other Compounding works, but apparently it's especially weird, with even aluminumminds burning away. Source:

A very generous offer, Miyabi. In order of importance: Thread. What happens when a Pulser is burning Cadmium and in a speed bubble? She'd be burning her Cadmium 20x faster than usual--so far as her bubble and those in it were concerned--and her slow bubble would extend far outside the area made "normal" by the effects of the speed bubble, so where does all that extra energy go? Thread. Would it be easy for a Forger who'd once almost lost her arm (freak guillotine accident) to make a stamp to lose it temporarily, or would it require some more involved Forging than "my arm actually got cut off that one time"? -On that note, is Resealing a subset if Forging, or a separate system like Bloodsealing is? Thread. Do bigger gems hold more stormlight for longer than smaller gems? So a broam, if it's 20 times heavier than a chip, would hold 20 times more stormlight and take ~2.7 times longer to lose it all: a chip lasting for 6 days would let a broam last 16, for instance. I included the threads for everyone's edification.

A question I once asked Brandon about Plate
Kurkistan replied to Miyabi's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes, I am a ninja. -
True. Still, the main point in this context is that Pewter adds power, it doesn't multiply it.

That WoB was purely in the context of Stormlight retention/use, not fighting ability. -
An interesting though, and you are welcome to it, though I can't say 100% that no one else has ever offered that interpretation.
-
Ah, sorry. Thanks for the link, though adding a "#189" to the end would have made it slightly easier to follow.
-
Keep in mind that Pewter adds right to the top: it doesn't actually care about base physique (in either the books or the MAG). So Vin burning Pewter arm wrestling Ham burning Pewter will be identical to Vin and Ham arm wrestling without Pewter.

Identity isn't about motivation (that's Determination, as turns out ), so I think a Soulbearer could manage the task. Rarity of full Feruchemists could be a problem, I'll admit. But Hemalurgy! As for only being able to approach the limit of zero: perhaps. You probably don't need to go all the way, though; if a Hemalurgist with a hacked-in Spiritual Identity from a spike is close enough to access a metalmind, I think a tiny sliver of Identity wouldn't be a problem. I agree that it certainly would not be as efficient or useful as being a Compounder proper, but it could still be quite useful. Especially if your "supplier" was himself a Compounder. Non-compounding Twinborns could also benefit (so Wax could burn someone else's ironmind steelmind, for instance). [EDIT: That second sentence does not make sense on several levels. Sorry.] I'm not so sure if "fully charged" is necessarily true: we have hints that "charges" are distributed fairly evenly throughout a single metalmind, so even a smidgen should still count. Either way, you could just swallow and burn small shavings at a time to be more frugal.
-
No, they're summoned one at a time. Can't find the source for the life of me, though.

So we know from the MAG that "[w]ith proper manipulation [of Feruchemical aluminum], it might be theoretically possible to tap someone else’s metalminds..." There have been some theories on this, with one of the prevalent ones being that a Feruchemist drops themselves to 0 Identity and then their metalminds are "unlocked," and/or that a Feruchemist with 0 Identity can tap someone else's normal storage--doesn't run afoul of whatever mechanism stops people from normally accessing each other's metalminds. Someone asked the former on Twitter today: Source: So that. Assuming that ":)" means yes, then I have had a thought. What's to stop an Allomancer from Compounding such an "unlocked" metalmind? This actually goes beyond whether Brandon's answering yes or no, though, since Compounding can do interesting things either way. Even if the trick is just letting Identity-using-Feruchemist access random metalminds, he could still Compound that metalmind if he could burn it Allomantically. But the first case is far more interesting, since the second is essentially just a streamlining of a normal "tap, then store". EDIT: Wait a second, the second case is not "essentially just a streamlining of a normal "tap, then store". It lets an Feruchemical aluminum/a<Anything> twinborn compound whatever his allomantic metal is, without the need to rely upon another Feruchemist being a willing participant and/or a Full Feruchemist. And there's no storing going on. Past-me had a brain fart... --- So the first case: Scene: We have an Augar named Amy who's feeling a mite ill. She calls her Full-Feruchemist friend Friendly Frank for a favor: "Could I have some Health, please?" "Sure thing," Friendly Frank says. So he stored Identity and filled up some gold with Health and took it to Amy's hospital bed. "Thanks Frank! You're a lifesaver!" With that, Amy swallowed the metalmind and sensed two distinct reserves. Choosing the unfamiliar one, she burned the gold and was flooded with Health. And so Compounding granted a Feruchemical attribute to an Allomancer FIN And, therefore, Augors are actually useful in the future, once they figure this out, since they'll just make a habit of buying Invested metalminds from full Feruchemists. All other stripes of Allomancers could behave similarly. --- Also, a "yes" would essentially confirm some variant of the "key-lock" theory we discussed back in the day. ------- UPDATE: Theory confirmed.

A question I once asked Brandon about Plate
Kurkistan replied to Miyabi's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's a lot of theorizing. I agree with most of it, though I doubt that the KR are in the habit of casually destroying and regrouping parts of their plate. Dismissal/summoning, like with Blades, seems more likely: people don't destroy and recreate their Blades, they just send them away and retrieve them. If the KR could instantly regrow Plate then they probably would have done so in their battle in Star Fall, instead of allowing it to remain cracked for any length of time. As to utilizing the Stormlight in their Plate, I believe I suggested that in my thread, and I agree that it would be awesome. -

Brandon explains himself a bit here, if you'd care to read.

@Shardlet I doubt the bond is transient. The Cryptic says "The stronger the truth, the more hidden it is, the more powerful the bond.", and then Shallan drops a pretty fundamental truth. I see from this that the bond isn't transient. First of all, it's not described as a toll, but as a "bond." Second, that's a pretty big truth, and it seems to be important that Shallan would share it. So what, is she just going to keep saying that every time she wants to soulcast? That takes some of the import out of it, I would say. Or does she need to keep coming up with new truths every time? In that case, then Jasnah "wasted" a finite number of truths by, among other things, turning some wine into crystal for a paperweight.

Theory: There are no Universal Soulcasters
Kurkistan replied to Kurkistan's topic in Stormlight Archive
So by what mechanism would people become "invested through their actions" without meeting some criteria that spren require? What other criteria are they meeting? Does Roshar just judge them and say "eh, you can get some investiture"?- 46 replies

Theory: There are no Universal Soulcasters
Kurkistan replied to Kurkistan's topic in Stormlight Archive
To reiterate, I primarily base my belief that people are not "innately" invested on Roshar on that Brandon quote (well, paraphrase, but you get the idea). They get magic by acting a certain way. Maybe spren are the only way to judge those actions, maybe not, but I am not inclined to credit a theory that allows for "natural" surgebinders on Roshar.- 46 replies

A question I once asked Brandon about Plate
Kurkistan replied to Miyabi's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think we may think alike, Miyabi. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/2970-infusing-shardplate/ -
Have you forgiven Mistborn, then?
-
Here you go. Source: This probably isn't the proof you were thinking of, though, since Brandon essentially gives a very thorough RAFO while confirming that spren are not primarily Physical (which we'd kind of guessed ). This may be hubristic of me, but I do have a thread on that matter, if you'd like to look further. Beyond that, I'll have to agree with hoser that the rest of your theory is a bit of a reach at this point.

Theory: There are no Universal Soulcasters
Kurkistan replied to Kurkistan's topic in Stormlight Archive
Nice to see the old thread back in action. To summarize, I would like to reiterate that I think it reasonable to posit that access to Shadesmar to be a core component of using universal soulcasters. Magics tend not to have a "deeper" level of access than they strictly need to function, and that's a lot of additional fluff on Shallan/Jasnah's soulcasting ability if it just so happens that they can also access Shadesmar on top of being able to just "talk" to objects without going there. Also, Gloom, I seriously doubt the existence of "innate" soulcasters on Roshar, if only because we have it from the horse's mouth that magic on Roshar depend on people's actions. That suggests that some outside entity (read: spren) judges and responds to those actions in some way. Szeth is weird, as always.- 46 replies
