  1. I don't think it's that weird. That can just show that he's that desperate versus Odium. If Autonomy is this weird collective then you could try and find one empathetic to you. It's worth a shot. We don't really know the extent of Hoid's grudge against Bavadin anyway. It's not like Autonomy teamed up with Odium on Roshar. The two aren't teamed up like Honor and Cultivation.
  2. We actually streamed it! Brandon said that if you plan to attend a signing, don't listen to this so you can experience it yourself. But here it is if you are not planning to go to a signing: https://www.facebook.com/17thShard/videos/1910398742333428/
  3. As you'll see on a podcast airing Wednesday, here's our thoughts: The first letter is either Endowment or another Shard. Not Cultivation. The second letter is Autonomy. The third letter is Harmony (obviously). Uli Da is Ambition. All the letters are from Shards, clearly, so I think the second letter is weird and we know Autonomy has many aspects. Entire pantheons are actually her. So this could be some weird collective thing.
  4. It's midnight 11/14 Eastern time, which means at the release party they are handing out books. That means, yes guys, it is finally time. Oathbringer is OUT at last! I'd thought I'd go through our spoiler policy with everyone while we're at it, and give links to part-by-part topics, if you'd like to react as you read. You must preface topics with Oathbringer spoilers with the prefix [OB] in the front You are only allowed to post spoilers and spoiler topics in the Oathbringer Spoiler Board, Cosmere Theories, and some select work-related forums. For posts in the Oathbringer Spoiler Board you do not need to use spoiler tags inside a topic marked [OB]. For Cosmere Theories, you also do not need to put spoiler tags inside your topic if the topic has [OB] in the title. However, for Cosmere Theories, if you are adding Oathbringer stuff to an old theory without the [OB] tag, those must go in spoiler tags and you must make it obvious outside the spoiler tag that the spoiler is regarding Oathbringer content. For select things that do require talking about OB spoilers, in Events, Coppermind, and Arcanum forums, those are allowed but keep OB spoilers in spoiler tags Avoid and minimize spoilers in topic titles--even though those two boards will not appear in the Recent Topics ticker, topic titles still appear in Recent Activity and the forum home. You aren't allowed to post Oathbringer spoilers in places other than listed, even with spoiler tags. It will be nine months and then the Oathbringer board will be re-merged with the Stormlight board and you will not need to tag these spoilers. If you'd like to move something in the Stormlight Archive board to the Oathbringer board, to update it with new Oathbringer information, Report the post and we will happily move it to the Oathbringer spoiler board. Part-by-part Reactions Though the Oathbringer Spoiler Board will be very spoilery, very fast (maybe don't come there until you've read the book, as people do have copies that bookstores sold early), you'll have these five topics for reactions if you want to nerd out: Part 1 Reactions Part 2 Reactions Part 3 Reactions Part 4 Reactions Full Book Reactions For parts 1-4, they will not include the interludes immediately following it. On Discord All Oathbringer spoilers on Discord will be exclusively in the #oathbringer_spoilers channel for the nine month spoiler period and nowhere else. Enjoy the book, guys, and we'll see you on the other side!
  5. Hi all, On 12:01am Eastern time, November 14th, Oathbringer will be out, and at that time, you'll be able to discuss full Oathbringer spoilers. 8. To my knowledge we know nothing about Skyward other than those two quotes. I don't think it was ever read.
  9. If you use a separate recorder that isn't a phone (I do like this) make sure you can get the file off it digitally. We had some Arcanum audio where getting it off the recorder required using the headphone jack and the transition was very messy. Lots use phones though; Argent's advice is great. Have any recorder app suggestions @Argent?
  10. I'm thrilled to have Jebus on the 17th Shard team, his videos are great! You'll see his videos from now on on the front page!
  11. 12:01am 11/14 Eastern time. I just posted part-by-part threads and a full book reaction thread ready. When they unlock, you are free to go do that.
  12. Hey all! We used to do this a bit more frequently, but I've been a bit forgetful recently. So let's mention some of our recent promotions! All these people are awesome who you've seen around before, now granted the Hemalurgic spikes that grant staffdom. First up, @jofwu. He's a rockstar on Reddit and mods every Brandon subreddit @Pagerunner, a constant forum-goer who you've seen and one of our amazing Arcanists Of course, there's @Argent, who has been on the forums for roughly a billion years now and you've seen in discussion threads all the time @Greywatch, an upstanding member of the Tumblr fandom who graces Discord with her wonderful presence Lastly, there's @Overlord Jebus. He made great YouTube video content in his Walking to Urithiru series, and guess what? 17th Shard is finally going to be using our YouTube channel! We're going to put Shardcasts there, but also, Jebus is going to be making content for us there, too! I'm so excited to see what happens there! You'll see all of these fellows on our Discord, too We also changed our color scheme. Now moderators are in bold always (before, regular moderators were unbolded gold), and we have two new colors of people that aren't moderators but deserve praise: Arcanists - These are Arcanum staff. These are the people who have worked on Arcanum and transcribe a lot of things. Keepers - These are new Coppermind staff. Do you want these fancy colors? You can get them! Impress us with work on the Coppermind and you could be a Keeper too! Don't worry there will be plenty to edit for Oathbringer on the wiki. You can't publicly work on Arcanum yet, really, but getting nonstaff the ability to transcribe is our top priority. When that's in if you do stuff we could tap you to be an Arcanist as well!
  13. Full book spoilers on Oathbringer open 11/14 12:01am Eastern Standard time. When this topic opens you can discuss all of Oathbringer in this board. This topic is our usual book reaction topic. If you have not read the book get out of this thread right now. This will have mega spoilers and I imagine a lot of discussion on the ending! You have been warned! Let's put some extraneous white space here just so you're sure you want to proceed. Okay, let us begin. (Well, at midnight Eastern time at least.)
  14. Hello, Full book spoilers on Oathbringer open 11/14 12:01am Eastern Standard time. When this topic opens you can discuss all of Oathbringer in this board. This topic, however, is if you just want to discuss the book up through Part Four and want to nerd out a bit about it. If so, you're in the right place. Only stuff through the end of Part Four are allowed. This topic will not contain spoilers from the interludes following Part Four.
  15. Hello, Full book spoilers on Oathbringer open 11/14 12:01am Eastern Standard time. When this topic opens you can discuss all of Oathbringer in this board. This topic, however, is if you just want to discuss the book up through Part Three and want to nerd out a bit about it. If so, you're in the right place. Only stuff through the end of Part Three are allowed. This topic will not contain spoilers from the interludes following Part Three.
  16. Hello, Full book spoilers on Oathbringer open 11/14 12:01am Eastern Standard time. When this topic opens you can discuss all of Oathbringer in this board. This topic, however, is if you just want to discuss the book up through Part Two and want to nerd out a bit about it. If so, you're in the right place. Only stuff through the end of Part Two are allowed. This topic will not contain spoilers from the interludes following Part Two.
  17. Hey all, This will be a spoiler thread only for stuff from the prologue through Part One (Chapter 32). It does not contain any interlude discussion. This topic, like our other part-by-part spoiler threads, are for people who maybe read slowly and want to react after each part. After the book comes out do not post any information here beyond Part One. (Yes, I realize many of you who read the previews have already discussed Part One a lot! This one might not get a lot of traction but I imagine Parts 2, 3, and 4 will.) The other part-by-part threads open midnight EST, but this one you can use now.
  18. Remember how Apocalypse Guard was cancelled and Mystery Project was replacing it? Well thanks to some sleuthing by wackyHair on Reddit, we now (probably) know. They looked at the Random House publisher page on Brandon Sanderson. It used to say: Now it says: Oooo, Skyward replacing Apocalypse Guard? Sweet! That is a safe bet for the mystery project to me! Now, what is Skyward? It was mentioned in State of the Sanderson in 2013 and never was referenced again (which also fits Mystery Project, as Brandon said it was a project he had thought about for a long time.) Here's what Brandon has said on it: We also know it is science fiction. Now Random House publishes non-cosmere stuff for Brandon. Since the cosmere is pretty profitable for Tor I doubt they would let something like that go to another publisher. Maybe it is non-cosmere now. But who knows? Next up, let's talk about the next installment of the White Sand graphic novel. We reported its release date being moved back to December, but now it looks like it's even more dire. Peter now says it is likely to be February. So let's not hold our breath for it yet. Still, delays aren't inherently bad; a good product is better than a rushed product.
  19. Wikipedia is its own thing, but it runs on a fork of the software MediaWiki. Arcanum is its own thing but we call the software Arcanum runs Palanaeum, and so if other fandoms and communities want to use the open source Palanaeum, they can.
  20. Text but I see you are still have issues, maybe it isn't possible. I'll get back to you after Oathbringer I suppose, but maybe you should just make a text link honestly.
  21. Yes, you will eventually.
  22. Man, all these are awesome! Which is the best? It's hard to say! Just kidding. It's Shallan. (But really, these are great! I adore them all, and the Chasms one!)
  23. We reported last week we're getting an interlude on audio on Monday, but turns out it is here early. Check it out. It's fourteen minutes on audio, but it's pretty spicy. You should take a look. We're so close to Tuesday, guys! The hypestorm comes. Next, we have an interesting annotation on Way of Kings Chapter 6. It explains how the Shattered Plains transitioned from Yolen (Dragonsteel) to Roshar (Stormlight Archive).
  24. The spren is named Ulim. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/91-general-twitter-2015/#e819
  25. I guess we got things up early, as we thought it'd be up tomorrow. Let's use this for discussion.
