You are all correct. This second lake is the liquid manifestation of Ruin's power. That smoke in the chamber before the Well of Ascension is Ruin's "mist-like" form. I asked Brandon where that liquid Ruin was during the times of the books. He said it was in the Pits of Hathsin.

I think it could be more effective for a specific speculation area in pages, to let people know about that. Obviously, we don't want to reduce information. Though the 3 of 16 is fairly strong evidence for there being sixteen Shards, I do not know of explicit confirmation of this. In this case, I think this is a safe assumption.

The Way of Kings stuff is spoiler free, but once you get to the "Most Likely RAFO Questions", I highly suggest you have read the book before you listen to that part.
