The particular "ransomware" has already been disabled--there was apparently a kill switch in the software--and in any case the update has already rolled out to everyone. No need to worry.

Ooo, thanks for letting me know this exists. I'm always out of the loop coming to new music. I also liked the punk rock Paramore. I don't mind poppy stuff, but I will say I super do not care about lyrics. I have a very difficult time listening to lyrics, so that aspect is mostly irrelevant. I'm not sure if I will like this album because of it. But again, I don't mind pop in general.

Do people think it's better to have a Cosmere Q&A channel, or have it merged with the Cosmere channel? I can see merits to both: having q&a be obvious is good, but too many channels overall could be a bad thing. I think your idea very much has merit though, Pagerunner. Like a dedicated help channel for Cosmere knowledge.

Hey everyone! So as you probably totally forgot about, we had an IRC chat. That was great but it died a long time ago, so we're moving the 17th Shard chat from IRC to Discord, a really cool chat service. Discord is a text chat service and also a voice chat service! I'm not sure how many of you would be interested in voice but now you can! You can use Discord on a desktop app, mobile app, or even a web app if you don't want to download anything. All seem to perform pretty well in my experience and I've quite liked the mobile app. To join our Discord, go here: https://discord.gg/bMAUS5c If you don't have a Discord account you can make one right there in your browser window, but I do recommend the desktop app and mobile app. Unfortunately you will need another username/password to remember, which is annoying, but Discord is really nice. We really want the Discord to be welcoming to all people on 17th Shard and support whatever niche you love on the site. If you like book discussion, you can do that here. If you want to chat and hang out, you can do that! If you want to meme, you can do that. If there's something you don't see yet, we can totally create new channels for you guys! Just hit us up (maybe in the #17s channel to discuss it) and we can make channels to support you. Maybe you'd like some more RP channels, either text or voice. We can see how it goes and we are pretty flexible! One other cool thing about Discords is that it is really easy to move from one server to another, and there are some other Discords in the community that may also interest you. There is a community called Cosmere Chat, used by many Reddits, and there's a Discord for the Coppermind, for discussion on the wiki. Go join those too if you'd like! That's possible. But the distance of Suisna from Luthadel seems way farther even despite Vin's speed. Even in Kelsier and Vin's pewter run in the first book, they covered a very small distance compared to the distance we are talking about here. One's nearby, the other is halfway across the Final Empire.

Hey guys. I've forgotten to do this for quite a while (2017 has been absurdly busy for me), but I wanted to make a post about the new Final Empire map that came in with the Mistborn anniversary edition, and the poster that you can buy off Brandon's site. To my knowledge no one has posted this, but correct me if I'm wrong. If you don't want to go to the album, here's the main image here (though you can zoom more in the Google photo of it): It's a very cool stylistic map that has a lot of locations that were never on the world map prior, such as Mantiz (referenced in the Eleventh Metal story), Vetitan (site of the storage cache at the beginning of Hero of Ages), and more. It has the location for named plantations too, like Tresting. It's neat. Also cool: it canonizes the capital of the Southern Dominance as Austrex. This was a thing the Mistborn Adventure Game people made, so that's cool to get totally official. There's a brand-new city in the Southern Dominance, too: Lekal City. It's not mentioned in the books or at least in the base Mistborn Adventure Game. Perhaps it is mentioned in some of its expansions; otherwise, this is actually a brand-new city in Era 1 lore. (I'm totally wrong oooops. Time to write a Coppermind article to make sure that mistake isn't made again!) Errors I looked at this for a long time and I identified what I believe to be two errors in it, though. The first is regarding Tremredare and Fadrex City. In every dominance, the largest city icon represents the capital, such as Urteau in the Northern Dominance, Austrex in Southern, Tathingdwen in the Terris, etc. Except for the Western Dominance, where Fadrex's icon is clearly labeled as bigger than Tremredare's. I can only assume this means that this map is saying Fadrex is the capital of the Western Dominance. But, that's totally not the case. In the beginning of chapter 25 of Hero of Ages: I suppose there is some wiggle room, but it seems that Tremredare was the capital of the Western Dominance prior to the Collapse, and Cett deliberately did not make it his capital, and made Fadrex the capital instead. Unfortunately, though one could rationalize this map as being after the Collapse, there's a date listed in the upper right, which is 1021, which is prior to the Lord Ruler's death. All in all though that's a pretty small error--it's just an icon size issue. There's another error that actually has a city in the wrong location, and that is Suisna. Suisna is a city in the Central Dominance: Vin felt a start of fright. Suisna was only a day away from Luthadel. The koloss were close. (From Well of Ascension chapter 34, the only mention of Suisna in the text) However, on the map, you see that Suisna is waaaaay in the Eastern Dominance, southeast of Faleast. That seems really bad but I wanted to make sure that Suisna on the map was not somehow a single day apart. Fortunately in the first book we do get a scale of distance for this map. Regarding Holstep and the Holstep Garrison, which is located in the Central Dominance, it says that Holstep is just three days march from Valtroux: Valtroux and Holstep are pretty close on the map, so it's quite safe to say that Suisna, as depicted on this map, is not within a day from Luthadel. Maybe these errors are already fixed but I wanted to mention them in case they were not known

Hey all, So the Tech Discussion forum never really was hugely popular, but I still think such a thing has value here. So instead of removing this forum, we decided we'd remake the Tech forum to a general STEM forum, for all your science, tech, engineering, and math discussions you may like. That's a pretty big demographic here on the Shard so I hope this will get some more traction. If there's things that you notice that have been missed moving to this board, post here and we'll move them

So guys, lots of you have suggestions for Leaderboards, but it is a default thing built in with IPS and hooks in the way that rep works. It can't be filtered in these ways. Sorry. Basically none of those improvements can be done. Rep is treated equally by the system. @Pagerunner cool idea but can't be implemented without significant dev time, which unfortunately means it probably won't ever happen. @jofwu Streams are on mobile! Hit the menu and there's a My Activity Streams menu.

Mestiv is correct, the leaderboard system requires me to select a time zone for this and I have selected Pacific time.

It's not on iTunes yet. Later this summer, unfortunately. I will look into the Soundcloud matter. I'm not sure why that would be. Still, if you go to Soundcloud directly you can download every episode.

I'm going to look into this, seeing if this is possible. @Mestiv I don't anticipate storage is a big deal. I wouldn't expect such uploads to happen too regularly but I can see the use of just posting it here directly. I will look into technical stuff and determine whether this is possible, first off

I guess that's the default behavior now but that one in the picture you have does mention Brandon in the text, so it definitely works? Are you referring to text colors? They are totally there in the dropdown... I'm not quite sure what you referring to?
