Does the text box not appear for you when going to the signature edit page (found at http://www.17thshard.com/forum/settings/signature/)? I can edit it on my phone on Chrome. I'm curious to know your phone and browser.

The Splintercast Reads Edgedancer, Episode 3
Chaos commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
Hey guys. It's my fault this is so late; I'm sorry! Being permanently overtime the last few months has been a lot more busy and draining than I expected. So feel free to blame me, please, not Alyx! The next Splintercast will, for realsies, be next week. (I've done what I need to do!) Shardkeepers is also coming back April as well!- 6 comments

As this topic has run its course, I am closing it

Hello @Rockobar, I'm closing this topic as it is getting too heated. I would encourage you to contact Brandon directly: https://brandonsanderson.com/contact/ I don't think Brandon reads the forum much, if at all. Since this topic hasn't been good at fostering discussion, I am closing it, but I do think your attention to detail can definitely be great for the community and so I encourage you to stick around. I appreciate the time you took to write this. I would also encourage others to realize that it's okay for people to disagree. I generally think the reaction to this post has been super overblown, even if you think it's a bit abrasively written. It has its points to it and I think that should be encouraged. But regardless, clearly this discussion is not going anywhere. As for your content, I would say that Brandon has steadily put in more and more sexual references into books, so that aspect is improving. I wouldn't expect many straight up sex scenes though, but I think it's a reasonable balance. EDIT: Upon Rockobar's request I have reopened this, but let's keep things civil! I will be watching.

It's slightly late, but for today and tomorrow, on Tor.com, you can download the first book in the Stormlight Archive, The Way of Kings, for free. You have to download it between 12:00 AM ET, March 23rd and 11:59 PM ET, March 24th, 2017. This is a crazy great deal, though, so if you don't have an ebook of this, do this right now! It's really easy, too. All you need to do is put in an email address, then Tor sends you a link where you can download the book. You can download it in .mobi (Kindle format) or .epub (other format), and it seems to me these are DRM free. So that's awesome. It could not be easier. Unfortunately, this is only for US or Canada. I suspect it is because Tor is only in charge of publishing rights in those regions, whereas other publishers are in charge of other countries. But, if you are in US or Canada and you don't have DRM free ebooks of this, I'd download this right now. Go to http://giveaway.tor.com/ to get your link!

No, sorry, that's by design. Rep is supposed to be the community average. By hiding this there's way less "OMG you downvoted me HOW DARE YOU", which is exactly what is not supposed to happen. Some people take any downvote, even if it gets averaged out, extremely personally.

Forums Page Unread Icons are Misaligned on Mobile
Chaos replied to Elenion's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Obviously, haha, but can you install one of them and see? You don't have to keep it installed, but I would like to see if it's device or browser related. That's what I'm saying. I don't have your device or exact built in browser to test on, so I'm going to need your assistance to help nail this down. However, it might not be possible for me to truly fix it. These CSS arguments are nothing strange and should be very compatible with most every browser and I've tested on the big three, Chrome, Firefox, IE/Edge. (I don't have an Apple device to test Safari directly.) It might be some strange CSS rendering issue on old AOSP browser that was fixed in later Android versions. -

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do proper testing on a built-in browser like that to identify the cause. Can you see if this still exists on Chrome or Firefox on the tablet? -

Today, we got the cover for the third Stormlight novel, Oathbringer. It's also by Michael Whelan, featuring Jasnah being totally awesome. This scene is quite evocative, so maybe you can glean some plot details from this. We also get the scheduled release date for the book, and an Oathbringer update on Reddit. Here's the cover: Whelan describes the scene in the Tor.com article: "We’re centered on a scene where Jasnah confronts the invaders. A giant has smashed a breach in the city wall, and Jasnah is called upon to restore it. After dispatching several invaders with her Shardblade sword, she covers the gap with a brassy wall of magical metal. It’s a very visual scene, in which I saw a lot of possibilities for good images." I will say that the expanded cover looks quite a bit cooler than the zoomed in part on the front cover: So we see Jasnah with her Shardblade (uh... spoilers if you haven't read Words of Radiance?). There's a city under attack, and in the background we see a number of cool things. First, we see a lot of red lightning, probably the Everstorm. I would rate the situation as being "quite bad" by the looks of it. Then there's a giant thing in the breach. People on forums suggest its a thunderclast, and that seems like a reasonable assumption. If you look closely, Jasnah isn't actually floating , but is on some stairs of glass, probably Soulcast. On Tor.com you can see more of Whelan's sketches of this scene and how it proceeded. What do you think of the cover? What city do you think it is? Tell us all your thoughts. We also get a release date: November 14th, 2017. Astute readers already knew this from Amazon, but we wanted to wait to a more official source. Tor says that is when it is scheduled, so that isn't definitive, but it seems quite likely. One more bit of Oathbringer news: Brandon posted another Stormlight update on Reddit. Oathbringer 3.0 was finished, incorporating feedback from Team Sanderson and Tor, and he recently wrote the epigraphs and epilogue. The length of the book is insane, at 514,000 words, which is 100,000 longer than Words of Radiance. (Hey, remember at Way of Kings' release when Brandon said the future books would be shorter? Hahahahaha.) I expect revisions might cut this down a bit, but it's still huge. Brandon says the US hardcover release will be in one single volume, but for the paperback, there may be two volumes released at the same time. That's about it, though Brandon does finish with: Comment below on this exciting Oathbringer news, or discuss the cover on the forums, too!

Yes, you do not need to make topics, the report button is much better at getting our attention.
-
It isn't (things under strict spoilers have spoiler boards), but people should generally not put colossal things like this in the topic title regardless, in my opinion. Spoilers are allowed here, but this is a little on the nose.

Thanks Kurk. Yes guys, @Sherwin94, please watch out if someone already has posted about said topic Also, news article coming in soon.

Yeah, I don't really know how to fix this without totally changing how those icons are displayed. It's pretty tedious CSS.

That is correct, 17S does use Cloudflare but was not affected. Rest assured Cloudflare has been top notch in notifying and if something did go awry I'd be very clear, even sending out mass emails, to notify users of something going wrong.

I don't know why this would happen, but yes, I am moving this to Tech Support as it is a direct (potential) issue with the site itself. I don't check other forums, but I do check Tech Support religiously for things that I need to be aware of.

I've decided to add a bit to this. This account is used for members with certain restrictions, namely reputation restrictions. Generally this is because of reputation abuse or some other matter that is not bad enough to warrant a ban yet. However one of those two members that you mentioned was banned due to multiple accounts, which, as always, is not allowed. The reason why I gave a terse response initially was because we don't talk about punitive measures in general, but apparently someone got very upset by this and decided to make five accounts to downvote me, which was a very mature response.

I guess I need to make a sticky topic explaining why there won't be an app. I've also never really heard a truly compelling use case for why an app is even needed. Kelsier, can you explain to me why an app is essential?

You don't need to worry about it.

What the. I haven't encountered this. Link me to the posts this has occurred, and mention your browser and OS so I can attempt to duplicate.

I guess.
