Shardplatecast!

Chaos
 Share

This week, it isn't Shardcast, but ShardPLATEcast, because we're talking about Shardplate. We talk about all the details on how Shardplate works, its function, differences between the Radiant version and non-Radiant version. Of course, we hypothesize how one gets Plate and how that works. But wait, there's also Inception noises and Avengers references. Everything you could want, really.

We just have three of us today: Eric (Chaos), Evgeni (Argent), and Ben (Overlord Jebus) who's mic is bad today because... well, you'll see. Grrrr. Yes, I know he sounds like crap in this.

Was anyone else like screaming “Demoux!!” at the screen after like the second clue on “Whose that Cosmere Character”?

I just did not think he was grizzled at all!

I don't have any proof, but I always wondered if the glowing glyphs corresponded somehow to the Radiant's oaths.

Another stray thought I had while listening... if the cousin spren used in making shard plate is somehow drawn or cultivated from the Radiants Nahel bond spren, I am curious to see if Adolin's plate matches the same original Radiant as his blade, and if that was contributing somehow to his relationship with Maya.

Thanks for making me laugh as I spend a thoroughly crappy weekend sitting around a hospital. You do noble work!

Maybe it would scream for ice cream.

Also, was Ben wearing a bathrobe? I'm not complaining. I mean, it's fine: Hugh Hefner did it all the time.

I have a question about plate regrowing. Does it grow back in its unornanented slate grey making them repaint it every time? I imagine it would. Shardplate is cool. I also wonder what would happen if you divided the plate evenly and fed it an even amount of stormlight. Which set would “die?” Is there a main piece, like the helm possibly, that is more important for regrowth to be possible?

On a somewhat related note. The gems they put on shardblades essentially seem like transportation fabrials. Which I think is above current fabrial technology, but they essentially take what post recreance was a purely physical object and allow you to transport it somewhere else and summon it at will. That gem is weird.

I greatly enjoyed this podcast!  Jebus’ audio was not that bad.... no worries.  The only thing I would add is a disscussion about the idea of using Biochromatic breath to make shardplate and the theories around it.  I appreciate you guys working to make these podcasts great!

Always Faithful,

BlackLeaf

Oh. I also had a thought on the Who’s That Cosmere Character. That second one was awesome. All those clues for the second one were totally fair game. They accurately described a single character. No one complains about Hoid clues coming from multiple works. But your reactions were hilarious.

I've heard of a theory about Shallan at the ending of Oathbringer. When Jasnah walks up to her, Shallan is resting with Veil and Radiant (who is in plate). Jasnah assumes that "Shallan" is the real one, but it turned out that "Radiant" was the physical body. So does this mean that Shallan was able to summon plate or do you all think that it was part of her illusions still?

WRT form-fitting Plate, I learned from Shadiversity (which was recently featured on the other Brandon Sanderson podcast, though I was watching it before then) that historical breastplates were actually domed, for the same basic reason that modern car bodies have crumple zones.

I was thinking,

Plate is separate pieces that work together to make a single form...

Legos are separate pieces that work together to make a single form...

You can mix and match pieces of plate

You can mix and match Legos

Shardplate is just magical Lego armor

Must be very painful to walk on broken pieces of shardplate then
