What else is there to say? It is the last section of Words of Radiance. You know what's coming. You know Alyx will freak. And stress about Renarin until she seems him... Look, I'm not going to spoil it. Enjoy.
It's a horrible, horrible thing to keep you waiting, so here's a Splintercast very early Wednesday. In fact, you've waited for this moment since you first heard Alyx's rampant Shallan/Renarin shipping. You've waited as she gets more tired, more emotional, and goes deeper into the depths. Prepare yourself for the breakdown and the rest of the amazing climax. (It happens early in 86, by the way...)
We're deep into the climax, so what can I even put in the description that isn't immediately spoilery? This chapter contains one of my favorite lines in the entire book. And Alyx gets emotional--but since when is that new? Such emotion. Much wow. This is Splintercast.
Our heroes reach the center of the Plains and confront the Voidbringers today on Splintercast. Tensions ramp. The battle begins. And Kaladin makes a realization that will change everything.
The Writing Excuses Anthology, containing stories from all the Writing Excuses podcasters--Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, Howard Tayler, and Mary Robinette Kowal--will be called Shadows Beneath. Intrepid 17th Sharder masaru discovered it via Googling "writing excuses anthology". It is not for sale yet, but it should be out July 3rd
For cosmere fans, this is of interest because it will contain the cosmere story Sixth of the Dusk.
Ladies and gentleman. Boys and girls. Brightlords and brightladies. It is time for Part Five of Words of Radiance, and it's just as wonderful as it sounds. In the immortal words of Samuel L. Jackson: hold onto your butts.
It's the end of Part Four on Splintercast today, plus the next set of interludes, featuring our favorite nicknamed character, Mr. T (Taravangian). I pity the fool who doesn't listen to this episode right now. What are you, Rocky Balboa and think you can fight Mr. T? No, of course not, so you better listen to Alyx's continued insanity right now.
Legion: Skin Deep, the sequel to the novella Legion, is now available for preorder from Subterreanean Press. It is a $45 limited edition with a full-color dust jacket, and two full-page and full-color interior illustrations too. They are limited to 2500 copies, and are signed leatherbound copies. Additionally, you get the ebook for free.
Today, Kaladin and Shallan confront the chasmfiend, and anything more would be far too spoilery of an introduction. Enjoy the insanity of Feather in this Splintercast.
Big news today: White Sand, an unpublished cosmere novel, is going to become a three part graphic novel series, the first coming out next year.
White Sand was the first novel Brandon ever wrote, and he eventually did a complete rewrite of it around the time of Elantris. That version of White Sand was good enough for Brandon to get his agent, though they decided to submit other works instead. White Sand was to be the first in a planned trilogy, but Brandon was never satisfied with how the plot turned out originally, but we now we'll finally get to see it and its world.
In this episode of Splintercast, Part Four of Words of Radiance really kicks off with something you really didn't expect to happen, and it is wonderful and terrifying.
We previously reported that there would be a new edition of Mistborn coming in May, and it came out last week. It's a trade paperback size, and this time it's marketed towards teens. The actual text is exactly the same (save for a few mistakes that were finally fixed), but has new maps. I snagged it today, so let's take a look.
This time on Splintercast, we get a Shallan flashback, where she plans for her family to escape. Kaladin and Adolin have the best bromance of all time, and Alyx freaks out (but that isn't new). Then we actually see Dalinar again! And Wit appears, and has a conversation with Amaram, and gets one of my favorite lines in the whole book. It's wonderful. Prepare yourself for more Splintercast right now.
It's Splintercast Wednesday! On today's episode, Kaladin mopes (surprise!), and we meet a Herald. (Or, as Brandon puts it, "a man who thinks he's Taln," whatever that means. Mraize is in it, so you can imagine Alyx's reaction. Prepare yourself for this Splintery goodness.
Hey Sharders!
Brandon has added an awesome perk to the Altered Perceptions campaign, and it's definitely worth looking into.
What, a Splintercast actually on Monday, when we said it would be? Madness. Well, it is episode seventeen, so, you know. It was all part of the master plan. It's the beginning of part four, so enjoy!
On this episode of Splintercast, we get the interludes after part three, which are Lift, Szeth, and Eshonai. Unfortunately, you don't get audio on the Lift interlude, since that was available before Words of Radiance, but you do hear a lot of Alyx freaking out about Eshonai!
It's time for a super-sized Splintercast. (You should maybe call this one a Splinter+Slivercast or something) And this is it. The moment you've waited for. One of the moments where you know Alyx will lose her entire mind. Yep: it's the duel at the end of part three. What more could you ask for? Really, you should just listen to these right now.
There's something very cool happening: the campaign to fund the Altered Perceptions anthology. It's a campaign conceived by Brandon to help Robison Wells, who has crippling debt due to medical issues. It's a cool, awesome thing. And what can you get for doing it? Well, some chapters from the original draft of The Way of Kings.
As Brandon explains on his blog...
This episode of Splintercast is brought to you by Beyonce* and her new hit single, Single Shards. "If you hate it then you should've put a Splinter in it." Yep, Odium loves it.
*Lyrics may not actually be written by Beyonce.
We're back! Where have we been? Did Odium Splinter us in our sleep? Well, that's entirely possible that he Splintered my brain, yes, but it's mostly due to busy busy business on both Feather and I's part. Fear not, though, because Splintercast is going to dare to do what a 17th Shard podcast has never done: use a schedule. New content will go up three (maybe four) times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. A buffer is in the works so you don't have to wait more. Woo!
Splintercast Reads Words of Radiance is back, and every chapter here is fifteen minutes long, or longer! Is it a special event? Of course it is! It's our gift to you, our loyal listeners. (No it isn't; that's just how it happened. I mean, shush, it is a gift obviously.)
Look, when I say this is the best day of Splintercast yet--or, quite possibly ever--I'm not kidding. This is Alyx's very favorite. Just listen to Chapter 41. There are gasps and also, perhaps desks broke. It's hard to tell. And that's not all, because then you get to her totally fangirl over Mraize. It's a very deep kind of love there.
Also, kittyspren.
More Splintercast! More Adolin and Shallan! An awesome flashback! And then, Sebarial. It's a Shallantastic section of Splintercast! Oh, and Feather does some talking too.
It's Splintercast, and we're going into Part Three of Words of Radiance! There are Splinters, and they are cast. Like the splinters that cast themselves away from your fleshy fingers. Like the splinters that cast magic spells. Presumably Awakening, I guess? Like... Kaladin cast off his chains? I don't know, but I should probably be saving these terrible puns for other episodes where I'm late on uploading, and I haven't had time to listen to them.
