Zanarkand Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 We know from Secret History that a former vessel can live on as a cognitive shadow indefinitely if they so choose. Will Rayse choose to go Beyond or will he persist? I think it would be cool for him to give some 11th hour info to the good guys to help them beat T-Odium, simply as vengeance for killing him. 1
Bejarden he/him Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 He was killed by nightblood so I think we have seen the last of him No CS no return bye bye Rayse 4
mathiau he/him Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 On the other hand it's conceivable for Aona, Skai and Uli-da

Serack he/him Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 (edited) My take is that between how badly Ati's identity had been warped by the power of Ruin, and how disorienting it was to fall from that power to a CS, he wasn't very coherent compared to say The Lord Ruler. I would try to compare this and Leras's frayed state to Rayse just before he was killed to try to determine if it is likely Rayse's CS was in a weakend state causing it to not hold out, or if Rayse had a strong sense of self that would have endured after getting killed, but I think @Bejardin1250 nailed it. 10 hours ago, Bejardin1250 said: He was killed by nightblood so I think we have seen the last of him No CS no return bye bye Rayse Quote uchoo786 I know that Nightblood is technically a shardblade (invested sword), but can one use it without being bonded to a Spren since on Roshar the only way to breathe is stormlight and use it is by being bonded to a spren? Would Nightblood also work like a shardblade, in that it severs the soul instead of consuming it when it touches a person? Brandon Sanderson Remember that the Honorblades do not require one to be bonded to a spren to use, or gain access to powers. Nightblood goes one step further, vaporizing and destroying on all three realms. /r/books AMA 2015 (May 18, 2015) So I'm pretty sure Nightblood "ate" Rayse's CS making the exercise moot. StanLemon Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Any former Shardvessel can stay as long as they want, Kelsier pretty much says so when he begs Vin to say. Ati likely chose to pass Beyond. As for Rayse, I'm pretty sure he's gone Quote The figure that contained Odium's power--the person who controlled it--evaporated, taken by the sword. 1
