A few minutes later they landed in a deserted alley near the guest house. “Stay close,” Kelsier warned, setting Lilli down and pulling on his gloves. “I don’t want to risk you being attacked again.”

"Yeah." I am going to make those grenades. I am not dying again.

Grenades are a great way to die again...

Kelsier nodded, flaring his steel and bronze. He wasn’t so much looking for where things were, but where they weren’t. Aluminum didn’t have steel lines, but everything else did. With practice you could learn to see the gaps.

It was with some relief that he reached the house, nodding to Aiguilles. The tailor was standing at the door, eyes wary. Verity was with him, and she flew to Kelsier with a delighted cry.

”Any word from my brother?” Kelsier asked as he undid the door’s protections.

”I’m afraid not sir,” the tailor replied.

Kelsier nodded. “Makes sense. He’ll likely meet me alone.”

With a soft click the door opened, and the Survivor gestured to Lilliana. “After you.”

It's the only thing she can do to protect herself at this point. Science rules!

She went inside. Well, that was really strange.

Being aware of her surroundings would be wiser. Not running away from safe houses or bodyguards... Little things!

She didn't think that walking less than a mile away would get her killed! Plus, the grenades would be for emergencies only.

They’re more likely to kill her too. She should learn to use a gun. I’m surprised she didn’t mention the Aviar.

Kelsier and Aiguilles followed Lilli into the house. Aiguilles sealed the door as Kelsier headed toward the cellar. “I think it’s safe for your friends to come out now. You’ll have dinner and then we can talk,”

Oh. I missed that.

Also, there is no way she'll be able to shoot a gun. She has no hand eye coordination. She would miss 10/10 times. :P

You need to be pretty far away to use a grenade safely. And it will cause collateral damage in the city.

Kelsier knocked rhythmically on the cellar door. A moment later Fouet opened the trap cautiously. “Master Thaidakar,” the tineye said, poorly disguising her relief. “The matter is done then?”

Kelsier shook his head. “It’s just beginning.”

True, but it wouldn't be very effective, as she wouldn't have great equipment... And she'd put very little ammonium nitrate in the grenade.

As I walk out of the basement, I sigh in relief, seeing that Lilliana is okay and- oh.
I look to Kelsier, then back at her. "Oh. Uh..." I open my mouth, gape for a moment, and think for a joke. Uh... something about her becoming evil and using hemalurgy? Death joke? Death joke. "Uh... so... Was being dead nice?"

My spike is covered. With a piece of fabric. Oh, wait. You know enough to guess.

"Well, I wasn't all dead. I was only mostly dead. And mostly dead is slightly alive." She was holding back a grin. Please get the reference.

Heh. I mostly fail to hold back a smile. "Well, I can't believe I was in favor of never getting lasik- I didn't want lasers cutting open my eyes. But that's nothing compared to getting a massive metal spike right through your skull and into your brain!" oh. That was a terrible joke. Oh no.

"Dying was worse." She rubbed her forehead. "But this is way more disorienting." She gestured to her spike.

I nod. "I... well I can't imagine what's that like, just like I can't imagine what being blind is like. Uh... anyway. What actually happened?"

"I got shot in the head. It hurt. And then I died." She said with a grin.

Okay, this is suddenly less funny now that I know it's definitely a murder.

"Oh. Uh... Please tell me it was like a mugger or something and not a planned assassination by some organization out for our blood."

I think for a moment. Crud, what do I say? She's lying, I think, but I don't want to be rude... "Uh... Err..."

Then he sees Lilliana. He hands her her bag. "Here. I thought there might be something dangerous coming, so I took your bag. Sorry."

“The best lies are true,” Kelsier said, scratching gently below Verity’s beak. “The person who shot her came from your world. Tennessee. He shot her as an experiment to see if she would become a Shadow.”

Random, it just occurred to me: a lot of things get more explicable if Saze is working with Insight. That would explain how they all ended up with the metallic arts and why they can be sustained as Shadows despite the distance from Insight making that tricky to explain.

Is no one going to notice the massive eagle on Kelsier’s shoulder?

Yeah, that would make sense.

Also, she died, met a bunch of worldhoppers, got spiked in the eye, and then traveled through a perpendicularly. She isn't going to be worried about the bird.

"Wait, what? I can't believe it. The situation just got weirder."

Hoblim turned to Kelsier. "Umm... Kelsier? Isn't that eagle... a little heavy? I mean, he is very big." He seems to be a bit worried, and annoyed. "Just, one thing, why say just 'Tennessee'? We aren't all from the US, you know. I guess I'm the only one who isn't?"

The "he" is intentional, there's no need to correct me. Just thought to insert a random minor linguistic problem - in Hebrew, like in many languages that aren't English, everything has a gender.

Plus, I might add that the USA for me is like NYC to Random: I see it as one country, and easily miss the states' differences, though I am aware to it. So, from my perspective, you could basically say "he's American" and I won't ask for specifics.
