"Aww. Now that's sweet of you, miss, takin' care of the girl." He glanced up at Ara and grinned at her before asking Wendy, "Somethin' happen to her parents? Surely she ain't yours."

Wendy turned away, pulling open the door to go to the next room. "I'm not her mother. Hers is gone now. But that doesn't mean she isn't mine."

With that she left.

"What, you'd like me to wear those massive shirts you have in the closet?"

"At least put on the dress you wore yesterday or something," he stated as he placed the koekjes back into the cupboard that he found them in.

Nico kept his eyes on the door for a few seconds after she left. "Overworked, that lass," he said. "Poor girl. Sweet though. Are you good for her, miss 'Bella?"

"Now wait just a moment, I want one of those," said Riva, munching on her cheese and grapes.

"Then get them yourself." He walked back to his spot, and brushed aside the koekje crumbs. "You took my room without my help, my koekjes should be no problem."

"You're right. I did." She tossed her hair back and dug into the jar to get a cookie for herself. "Now, how old did you say you were again, Caden? Ah, never mind, it doesn't matter. Surely you've been married before though."

"Well, it's a massive house. You're rather sulky and lonely which is consistent with someone who's lost a loved one. And let's be honest, anyone would complain if they were to be married to me."

Posted

"I've never been married, Raveness; no matter what you skills of deduction would say." He adjusted his shirt so that it might be a little more comfortable on him, "the only person I've 'lost' is my father, and his time was going to come sooner or later anyways."

Huh. Either he was a good actor or he was telling the truth. She paused, then leaned back on the counter, genuinely interested in what his response would be to her next question. "Do you think I am evil, general?"

Caden stopped adjusting his uniform for a moment, evidently thinking the subject over with great care. Only a moment later he shudder slightly, as if clearing himself of a particularly strange thought. He looked towards the Raveness with a suspicious look in his own eyes, "what am I supposed to say, 'no?'"

He spoke without allowing himself a single moment to actually think it over, "I am a servant to the King. I don't care to ask if his will is "good" or "evil," just if it is the best choice to achieve his goals."

Caden set his jaw at the statement, "be careful not to confuse cowardice for a strategical mindset. Everyone's willing to call the man who retreats from a fight a coward instead of looking past such notions for the logic behind the move."

Posted

"Oh, I'm not talking about retreat. I'm talking about a man who isn't willing to do his own dirty work or look the prisoner on death row in the eyes." She sighed, then smiled. "Wow. We just had an actual conversation, didn't we?"

"You're--"

What.

In the world.

Is going on here today?

"Uhm... yeah." Wendy covertly wiped a bead of sweat off her brow. "Hi."

Alienor smiled and set her meal to the side.

After Wendy left, she stood. "Sir Kimby, I was wondering... could you perhaps make another of those flowers? I don't have much to add to this room."

"Well, o'course I can, miss! How many does ya need?"

Caden scoffed, turning away from the Raveness. "Don't think much of it." He got up, and walked towards the kitchen door.

With a grin, Riva ran after him and took his arm, bumping him playfully with her hip. "Oh, c'mon! Maybe this marriage isn't for nothing after all!"
