"The woman doesn't have a soul," Igor said sadly. "She don't follow normal human morality."

Darrin moved to grab his opponent's neck, whipping out a dagger. "You think I would have entered without an escape?" He chuckled.

"Ah, lovely. Would you mind sharing it?" Jasper then grabbed Darrin's knife arm at the wrist and proceeded to headbutt him.

Wendy buried her face in her arms and cried.

A pile of rags shifted in the corner, and a raspy voice came from it. "Would you mind keeping it down?!"

"S--sorry." Wendy took in a breath and tried to quiet her sobs.

The pile of rags groaned before shifting to reveal an ancient man, cursing strangely under his breath. "Why must I be this way?" The ancient man moved to Wendy, which took an agonizingly long time. "I meant to eavesdrop and I heard some of your problem, but would ya mind repeating it again?"

"W--what?" She looked up and wiped at her eyes.

The ancient man looked annoyed behind his unruly facial hair, "I said I wanted to hear what was buggin' ya. Of course, if you don't wanna share . . ."

"The Raveness has... she has..." Wendy took in a breath. "My friend. She's just a child; a little girl named Arabella."

"Oh, no, miss. Not many places I could go, after all, what with the lockdown." He chuckled, a twinkle in his brown eyes. " 'sides, you'd probably get lonely without me, I'm thinkin'. Wouldn't be too chivalrous to leave, miss."

"Whatever you say, Sir Kimby." Alienor turned to the wall for a moment, rubbing her forehead, then pasted on another smile.

The old man simply sighed, bowing his head. "How old?"

"I hope so too, but... would she?"

"She didn't to my girl, or so I hear. If she's with the Ravenness, then she's better off than us." The old man considered it a moment before letting out a sigh, "the again, it's been ages since I knew her."

"So you don't think the Raveness would hurt her?"

"I don't know kid," the old man bowed his head, closed his eyes, and shook his head with a single tear making its way down his face. he spoke under his breath, "curse that woman to oblivion. I can't help, it's out of my power. I . . . I . . ."

"Hey... shh, it's... okay..."

The old man slunk down against the wall, his face a mixture of sorrow and frustration. He slammed him fist into the ground next to him, "why? Why do I even ask any more?"

The old man remained silent for a moment. His voice rattled when he spoke again, "do you know where they're keeping her?"

----

Caden finished giving the guardsmen the passcode and stepped into the room that they had placed the King. Upon seeing him awake, Caden went to a knee. "My lord, are you well?"

"I've been better. Have you apprehended whoever shot me yet?"

Jasper stumbled back a step, but managed to keep his footing. "If I let you go, do you promise not to hurt anyone else?"

"If I said yes, there's no guarantee I'd actually hold to that promise," said Darrin. "So what doesn't it even matter?" He swung for another punch.

The old man was silent for a moment more, "all of the Ravenness's victims are sent down into the dungeons until she comes for them."

-----

"I have my men tracking a lead, but I had to make sure you were safe my King. As soon as I am done here, I will deal with this lead personally. We also have a few prisoners that I want to handler myself instead of handing them over to the Ravenness."
