Kings_way he/they Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 (edited) "You'll need to be careful. Meens is not someone to be messed with." The driver looked back at Ermin, taking in his relaxed posture and crisp, dust free clothes. Ermin smiled. "Don't worry, I'm not planning to get in a fight. I'm just checking to see if these are the guys making trouble around here. If it's clear they're bad news, I'll try to get some backup from whatever local law I can find. I'll be fine." The driver snorted. "I wasn't worried about you. If they catch you, don't tell them who brought you. I'd like to live a little longer." They rode in silence for a while, the carriege bumpind along the dirt road. After a few minutes, Ermin asked, "Shouldn't we be there by now?" "Meens camp should be close. They may have moved, but you might be able to track them down." The carriege halted. "You get out here." The driver pointed. "Camp is that way." Ermin stepped down and handed the driver some coins, then set off. There wasn't much on the plains other then a trail of smoke rising into the sky, most likely from a campfire. He stopped storing luck, in case he was ambushed. As he got closer, he could make out the shapes of tents, but they seemed a little lopsided. Then he saw the bodies. They all seemed to have been killed by tent stakes. Some had holes through their chest or skull, while others still had a post piercing their body. Some were pinned to the ground by a tent peg through an arm. Ermin saw the outlines of corpses underneath collapsed tents. "Allomancers." he muttered, burning his bronze to see if they were still nearby. He didn't sense anything, but that wouldn't mean much if they had a Smoker. Though the bodies seemed to have been flung around, it looked as though they had been running from something. Ermin slowly walked towards the center of the camp. A tent stood in the middle of the massacre, although stood might be too strong a word. The walls and roof were more holes than actual tent, and one of the posts had collapsed, causing it to lean like a three legged dog. Ermin flared his bronze but didn't sense anything, started tapping a bit of fortune, and stepped pushed aside the tent flap. Surprisingly, there were only two corpses inside. The first had been stabbed in the back, and lay on the ground. The second matched the description of Meens that Ermin had been given. His throat was slit, and he sat slumped, leaning against the wall of the tent next to a chair. Ermin swore. How was this possible? How could someone have gathered enough allomancers to do this? He should have heard of them before this massacre. He took out his notebook and started taking notes on each body in the camp. It was grisly work, but he knew he didn't always notice everything when on the crime scene, so he continued. A short while later, he was back in town, comparing his notes to his files. Who would want to attack Meens, and had the resources to get so many allomancers? He couldn't find records of anyone like that, but organizations like that tended to be adept at staying hidden. Instead, he gathered a list of recent activity that was suspected to be Meens doing. The most recent was some attempted arson on an Inn. The door of the inn opened and Ermin stepped in. There were a few people sitting by themselves, but most of the Inn's occupants were gathered around one table. Ermin walked over to the counter. "I'll be needing a list of everyone who was inn this in yesterday." He said. He glanced at the group sitting at the table, then burned bronze. Also: I LOVE the way you described Marie and Kell (mostly Kell’s) carnage. Two odd things you might note: Meens and his lieutenant were killed with a stone dagger, not a steel one, so the cut may be different. Obsidian can actually give a sharper edge. Also, Meens was killed from the front without putting up any fight. Edited February 24, 2021 by Kingsdaughter613
