Talnic cursed. "Get out of here!" he shouted to the others. "There's no use fighting! It'll kill us in minutes! Get back into the tower!" He pulled the door open, waiting for a moment to see if any one would take the opportunity.

Any one who didn't would be an idiot, however. Staying and fighting meant death, unless the dragon decided to retreat.

Traige wordlessly shook his head. He had slept through the first half of the battle, he was not going to run away for the second. However useless he would actually be.

The dragon was ready to strike again. They were taking too long. Minuet had missed her chance to leave, and Talnic wasn't going to leave if there was someone still on the roof.

Talnic drew his sword and charged the dragon.

Sorry, but I got a little confused by the architecture, lately. It appeared that Orpheus and Traige were somehow outside - but they probably were just looking out the window. Sorry, but I need to understand how some things happened.

Exodus appeared back on the roof of the tower.

"Do you need my help fighting this thing?" he called.

Orpheus appeared beside the man, Xeus, and he embraced the power of devils, feeling it course through his veins, his eyes glowing violet.

"Minuet, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

"Yes!" Talnic shouted, coming up to the dragon's side and swiping down. His sword bounced right off. Talnic swore, hoping he wouldn't ruin the blade.

The dragon turned to him, eyes wide and frenzied, and lunged forward. Talnic leaped to the side and swung up, hoping to catch the beast on the underside of the neck. The hit did little damage, but seemed to actually penetrate the dragon's hide.

The dragon roared in anger, spinning and swiping Talnic's feet out from under him with its tail. His sword clattered away.

He really hoped he wouldn't need to replace it.

Apologies if this post winds the clocks back from the action for a moment. I had been meaning to post this before the dragon attack, but I was at work when everything started to go down.

At the base of the Wizard Tower, the abandoned market stands surrounded the structure in a pattern of organized chaos. Wooden crates and boxes in varying shapes and sizes lay scattered about, with stolen items placed on tables for alluring display and unlawful resale. But for all the value these trinkets and supplies may have been worth, they had still been left behind in the looter’s retreat from Valzwyn and the others earlier that day. It was strange though, how the remains of the looter’s camp could look so full, yet feel so empty.

Inside one of the tents that was propped up behind a crooked stall, Ren sat on the frame of a wooden bed that had been lashed together inside the canvas enclosure, with a quilt of green and white fabric stolen by the looters tossed on a thin mattress of pine straw. Nearly a dozen wooden chests lay open on the thawed ground inside the tent, books and clothing packed inside each container almost to the point of bursting. Other miscellaneous furnishings were placed within the tent as well, including a simple nightstand next to Ren. Atop this small table was a lit candle, which cast a soft glow that illuminated the darkened space.

Turned with his left arm crossed onto the nightstand and his chin resting in his elbow, Ren’s right arm was extended out towards the candle’s light. Breathing softly, his fingers passed easily through the luminescent flame, lithely brushing them back and forth just above the tip of the burning wick. The heat did not harm him, and only small impressions from the flame whispered gently to Ren’s mind.

Pulsing with life as it swayed back and forth, the light danced to a rhythm that could not be heard. But as Ren watched the amber flame, he felt his mind began to sway in time with the shifting light. Slowly, the tent around him seemed to fade away, and red and yellow grass began to form before Ren's eyes.

Looking out at a land that had appeared before him, Ren found himself standing on the edge of a steep cliff high in the air. Far below where he stood lay a valley of maroon and gold, with plains of autumn grass stretching out until they disappeared into the horizon beyond. Each blade of grass moved as the candlelight did, swaying in waves of unison to a breeze that hinted of salt. A single river sliced through the endless field, flowing to the East as it fed into a sea of sapphire waters. Thin lines of foamy white grew across the face of the Eastern Sea before sliding into sandy shores, and the distant sound of crashing waves echoed lightly on the passing wind. Off to his right, the warmth of a setting sun enveloped Ren as it pierced through clouds of pink in the azure sky above. It was a perfect picture of beauty and serenity.

Ren did not know how long he stood there. Time and worry had simply become feeble things as a feeling of peace filled his soul. Breathing deeply, Ren wished to stay in this moment forever.

Glancing to his left, Ren finally looked at the boy sitting on the edge of the cliff next to him.

No more than twelve years of age, the youth had wavy brown hair that was tossed about loosely in the salty breeze. Although stained with dirt at the knees and elbows, the boy wore a set of clothing that resonated a rank of nobility. Regardless of any regal appearances though, there was an air of playfulness and frivolity about this boy. When he turned to look at Ren, the young man had eyes the color of polished copper and a smile that shone even brighter.

The boy said something to him, but Ren heard only silence.

Then it was gone.

Curling his fingers away from the candle’s flame, Ren lifted his head before extinguishing the light with a sharp puff of air. Dropping his head back down in the crook of his arm, Ren stifled a frown as he watched a single line of smoke rise into the darkness from the smoldering wick.

Suddenly, from the direction of the Wizard’s Tower, a terrifying roar split through the air.

Sorry to do this, but...

No one knows Gal's first name. I know it's confusing, with me calling him Gal all the time, but still. When you call him by his name out of speech I ignore it, but inside is problematic.

So we'll just pretend she called him Owlson and call it a day, fine?

Gal closes his notebooks and throws them into his bag, then closes the books and hurries to put them back in place.

Meanwhile, Sef finishes fixing the prophecy book, jumps out of his chair with it and goes out of the library, calling: "Assuming the young girl meant the basement, I can lead you there. We might need to hurry."

Traige raised his hand. "I'm Traige. And also I'm going to stay for awhile longer. I want to be somewhat useful."

You can make a character with whatever powers/magic/skills you want (nothing too crazy), as there's no set magic system. If you want me to add something to the map, I'll happily do that.

I'm not quite sure how this works, but I'm down. Tesh invited me.

Is this the right place to even put this?

Welcome! I´m Connie. Usually, we post OOC(out of character) posts in quote boxes, like I´m doing now!

Yes, this is totally the right place. Do you have a character, are you planning to make one, do you need help?

Hi Connie. Thank you! I'm working on final details for my character, and I was just thinking of looking around and referencing other people's characters for a guide on how to format mine.

Welcome aboard! I believe you can find all the character sheets on a doc linked in the opening post. We have a Wikidoc, I don't know if there's a link here or only at the Discord server.

Alright! I think this is my character. Tell me what you think.

(I'll wait to introduce him until I find a reasonable spot, I don't want to interrupt this fight scene.)

Spoiler

Name: Rylan Ryan VII

Age: “At least 23, but most definitely no more than 4327.” He has no idea how old he is.

Skills: Rylan is a master of the violin, guitar, lute, slide whistle, and the flute. He is also an experienced fencer.

Rylan fluently speaks English (or whatever your common tongue is), Dwarvish, Elvish, and a few others from his journeys. (I don’t know what languages are in this world, so I can update this as needed.)

Rylan is well practiced in arcane magics, as described below.

Magic: Experienced in the arcane, Rylan can use his magical prowess primarily to create lesser illusions and to heal wounds, but he can also use magic to bolster his allies in combat. While able to cast damaging spells, he is not nearly as good at those as a more dedicated wizard would be.

Appearance: A tan skinned man, looking not older than 20, the most striking thing about Rylan would be his ostentatious hat, a bright red bardic hat with the left brim curled up to hold a massive white feather (easily 18 inches long) pointed back behind him. He always keeps the brim low, both to hide his face and to keep his feather in the air. His hair is short, dirty blonde, just barely peeking out beneath his hat. His ears have an ever so slight point to them, not enough to mark him as an elf or even a half-elf, but there is definitely elvish blood in his veins. His eyes are dazzling green, brimming with mirth and a hint of madness that betrays his years. Rylan wears a bright red coat with gold buttons up the front, with long sleeves with gold buttoned cuffs. The cuff is torn off on his left arm. He wears plain, loose grey pants, and worn leather boots.

Rylan stands all of 5’10, with excellent posture.

Personality: As audacious as his dress, Rylan always has a quip to make, a tale to tell, and a boisterous attitude. (Think Hoid mixed with a less drunk Jack Sparrow, and a bit of Regis [one of the Companions of the Hall])

Backstory: Rylan is what is known as a Planeswalker, which means he is able to traverse the multiverse, so he has been to all sorts of worlds, real and fictional alike, where he has gained his skills. The one thing about him is that he is unable to control when or where he goes. Roughly every 3 years or so, Rylan is hurled across the multiverse to land in a new world, only to be taken somewhere else 3 years later. Because of this, he is unable to age, and his mind is slowly unraveling from being exposed to the great powers of the multiverse. He has been to so many places that even he has forgotten where he originally came from. He has spent his life as the result of a cosmic joke, and wants simply to be able to settle down in a single place, and live peacefully. But until then, he is happy to have more stories to tell at his next destination.

(If you are familiar with Dungeons and Dragons 5e, he’s basically a college of lore bard)

Since it says that there's no specific magic system, I'm assuming that magic can sort of be what we want. Because I'm very heavily inspired by D&D, Rylan's spellcasting will be very similar to that of the Bard class. He uses hard magic in that there is a list of specific spells that he can cast, each with clearly defined effects.

Rylan waited until the guards had turned the corner, out of sight, before pulling the chipped piece of flint from his pocket. Whispering the incantation that Yrtrimn had taught him, he struck the flint against the cool steel bars of his cell. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, with a flash, the metal bars warmed, and began to glow with heat after but a moment.

Rylan watched the red-hot metal for a moment that felt like an eternity. Steeling himself, he clenched his teeth, and grabbed the bars, wrenching them apart. His palms searing, the putrid scent of searing flesh filled his nostrils as the bars pulled apart, easily bent due to their heat. As soon as he was sure he could squeeze through, he let go, and stifled a scream. It took almost a full minute before he was able to remember the words to a spell to help his hands, which only reduced the pain slightly. He waited until after the metal bars were completely cooled before he slipped through, and quietly made his way down the prison hallway. He felt the cool stone against his bare feet, and tried to ignore the calls of the other prisoners as he walked past their cells.

As he neared the guard barracks, he pulled another object from his pocket, a small, clear gem, and crushed it in his hands, immediately wincing afterwards. He muttered a short phrase, and suddenly blinked out of view, becoming invisible. He quietly made his way past the inky blue-skinned humanoid guards, being sure not to step into their path. Casting a final detection spell, Rylan quickly found the room where his boots, sword, and most importantly, his hat, were being held.

In but a few minutes more, Rylan was back onto the street of Graazun, ducking past carts and horses, trying to be sure he wasn't seen by any more of those blue humanoids. It took nearly an hour of dodging and ducking, running from shadow to shadow, to make his way to the city gate. He crouched in the darkness, watching the gatehouse, trying to estimate when the best time to run past was, when he heard the skittering of stones behind him. Rylan turned, just in time to see an arrow streaking right towards his face. He raised his right arm, and felt the arrow graze across his wrist, tearing his skin open, exposing bone, and leaving the very tip of the arrow stuck inside his hand. He yelped in pain, but at least the arrow had been deflected. He looked down at his wrist to see the slash was bleeding profusely. He could just barely see the barbed Arratzzn-steel tip of the arrow keeping his wound open. He felt dizzy as his blood dripped down on to the ground. His vision was swirling, he couldn't see straight. Rylan could barely see as one of the blue skinned creatures from the prison approached him, its snarl exposing jagged yellow teeth, its red eyes blazing with the adrenaline of the hunt.

Then he felt it. That familiar gut wrenching tug that he had felt thousands of times before. He was being Kicked.

The creature raised its crossbow again, with another barbed arrow aimed at Rylan's heart. The creature curled its oily finger around the trigger, and then froze. A bolt of pure black energy shot down from the red sky above, sucking in all light around it, striking Rylan. All he could do was groan in agony as he was suddenly torn from his current reality.

...

...

...

...

Darkness. Rylan slowly opened his eyes, but it made no difference. There was nothing to be seen, only the eternal darkness of the space betwixt the endless universes of the Multiverse. He floated there, unmoving for what could have been seconds, and what could have been years. He was used to this. It had happened thousands of times before, and quite possibly would continue to happen until the end of eternity. Then, he saw light. A small speck, growing closer. A new world, a new life, and yet another round of the meaningless torture that the mightiest of cosmic powers forced him to endure. The light grew closer and brighter, first like a candle, then like a bonfire, then blazing like a star looming over him.

Time to put on a show, Rylan thought, as the light engulfed him.

He did tell her his name was Owlson, so unless she has a bad memory it should be fine that she'd call him Owlson.
