As T scanned the area near her companions, she felt the darkness reaching out and sent mental energy, disconnected from herself, towards it. She was about to communicate to Alex, but realized she might need her concentration.

The weight of T’s mind left his. Alex almost asked why, but shut himself up when he saw the soldiers come around the bushes. He squeezed T’s hand as a reminder to stay absolutely still.

The soldier came around the bush and stared right at them.

But saw nothing.

[Mist she/her]

She stayed still, trying to keep from moving in any way. For a moment, she remembered this tense feeling from another time, then jumped herself back to the present mentally. Why is the soldier not seeing us? she thought.

UP. Alex replied. It's hiding us, but if you move it can't account for that.

The darkness in the soldier's eyes crawled into the reflection of Hiiri's eyes.

Hiiri stepped back from the soldier, who had collapsed on the floor, breathing heavily.

"Thank you," he gasped. "Thank yourghhh..."

His voice cut off as Hiiri blasted a hole in his head.

She felt something...different...in Hiiri's mind, and reached out slightly more. What's... What's going on?

The creature attempted to block mental communication with T.

She felt something different for a moment, then was quickly cut off. Something... Something is up. I'm not sure how safe it is to reach out, or even if I can. Is ... Are there telepaths on your planet?

What? No! If you're caught doing magic the government takes you away. Alex stiffened as the guard started walking around the area. But nobody really knows what for.

She remained frozen, not reaching out. I'm not sure what's happened to our friends, but I think there's a mental component. I think we've got a problem.

Currently, wait for this soldier to leave. Or attack him. But next would be finding them, I think.

There's no telling how long he'll take. Alex clenched his fists. Do you have any methods of knocking him out real quick, preferably without alerting the others?

I could whack him thoroughly on the head. She sent the impression of laughing over the link. Do you know what communication they have between themselves?

Nothing mental; I can assure you of that. They do shout a lot, though.

T whacked the soldier over the head with a field, wincing as she did so. There's that complete. Last I felt them, they were over there. She gestured.

She prepared to leap up and to use the wind amulet. One…, two…, three! She jumped up with the wind swirling around her and ran towards Hiiri and Davey.
