Actually, the gem could be made of the same material as the cores without too much trouble.

Platypus (well, at the moment Ookla the Arbiter) explained that Thread Perception isn't even a power Narrators necessarily have. But there is the Plotblade Lore, which allows whoever has it to change canon...

The wiki will not be of very much use to you at the moment - xino's blog had astronomically more information, unless you want to know about specific characters played by the people who edited it. I'll PM it to you, though.
