“Don’t ask me,” she said after dropping down the well. Q brushed herself off, squinting in the dark.

Gerald frowned. The fact that the amulet kept acting up was... concerning, to say the least.

"Would you rather one of us held it?" he offered.

"Strange," she murmured under her breath. "This wasn't here before..."

"What wasn't here before?" asked Gerald.

"These tunnels," said Cupra. "Before... it was just here."

"That's probably a bad idea. You couldn't handle it. You--"

Wait.

I squeezed his eyes shut, shoving away--

Ellis shook. "I can't."

Q frowned. "What do you mean by that?"

"As in, it was there." Cupra pointed down the tunnel, which curved slightly away from the bottom of the well.  "Short tunnel. Big gold doors at the end. Impossible to miss."

Wait.

I squeezed his eyes shut, shoving away--

Ellis shook. "I can't."

"What do you mean you can't?" whispered Gerald urgently.

"It won't." Ellis--I--Ellis pulled his hand away from his pocket. "It's--"

"Normally, when someone is reluctant to relinquish a newly found artifact, that's a really bad sign." Gerald twitched his tentacles. "I've seen people possessed before. It isn't pretty."

I squeezed my eyes shut again. It was still calling.

"T--take it away."

The amulet thrummed angrily.

Without further fanfare, the Gray Man dropped down the well.

Q rose an eyebrow at Ellis, concern flickering in her gaze. She forced herself to look at the newcomer instead, her knives appearing in her hands.

The Gray Man whips out his own own sword, his mouth stretched open wide in a soulless grin. He moves to strike- far, far faster than before.

The ground squelches. The Gray Man's eyes flash black.

From the shadows, two revenants emerge. They charge - not at Ellis, but instead at Melody and Q. In their hands are a pair of well-worn daggers.

The Gray Man matches Ellis's strikes with superhuman strength, but he remains defensive.

I ignored the revenants. Blade on blade, clatterings and clangs through the air. Weaving my blade left, right, and center, I--

Wait. Ellis pulled away, turning to the revenants; to Melody and Yulong. No. Nonono. This--

A piercing agony shot out from his spine, hot blood running along his back and coating his shirt. Ellis shouted in pain.

I spun around, back to my enemy. The pain faded and the wound closed.

Dark sludge bubbles out from the wound as Ellis heals it.

The Gray Man pauses, tilting his head slightly as he gazes at Ellis. He waits until Ellis is ready once more before striking again.

Oh flip. Didn't realize we were actually going. Let's get going then, if it ain't too late.

Q swore under her breath, quickly bringing her blades up to block the revenant's attacks with one, giving a quick slash at the creature's neck with the other.

"Begone." I hiss.

The Gray Man freezes in place, quivering slightly.

The revenant leaned back clumsily, the blade nicking its neck.
