"Well, yeah, but I didn't wield it. Wielding is, like... fancier and trained and everything."

"It's a fancier way to say it, I suppose. It just means use as a weapon. Like, for instance, cutting someone's arm off."

Melody shuddered. "Yeah, not glad about that."

"Hard to say he didn't deserve it," said Gerald, shivering and rubbing a hand over the place where Dr. Who Octopus's weapon had hit him.

"Hey, uhm... lady." Ellis held up a hand. "What does being the Chosen One entail?"

The woman's eyes grew distant. "Long, long ago, this land was ruled by a just and powerful queen, well loved by all under her rule. But outsiders came and whispered treacherous words in the ear of the queen's daughter, poisoning her mind and turning her against her mother. Taking that sword you now hold, she usurped the throne and locked away the queen's soul in a prison bound to her bloodline by destiny. Ever since, her lineage has brought great darkness upon this world. Heroes have risen against these Dark Lords- some to conquer, some to fall, but all to inevitably fail at preventing the next Dark Lord from rising. Until the Dark Lord is slain by a Chosen One, the queen's soul will remain trapped and the cycle of darkness will continue."

Ellis blinked. "So you want this kid to go find and kill a Dark Lord?"

"Indeed," spoke the woman. "There is no telling when next the sword will choose. It may be ten, a hundred, a thousand years hence."

"Prepare," said the woman simply. "The Dark Lord will soon rise."

There was a moment of silence.

"Well," said Gerald, "We'd better find the world's origin before then. It's not good to leave a bargain with Fate hanging."

The woman blinked. "You wish to go to the Origin? I can lead you there if you wish."

"The Origin?" Ellis prompted.

"The place where this world began," explained the woman.

The amulet surged with furious power, sending images flickering through Ellis's mind.

The images flickered too fast for Ellis to make anything out, each one pulling a bit of power from him-

Until it was done.
