Melody laughed, a panicked sound. "Okay, I know I was just barely lamenting how boring it was here, but I'd really prefer it if it went back to boring. Is that an option?"

"I'm boring," said Gerald.

"I'm afraid this place is too auspicious to be boring! We're in a story now, and there isn't anything anyone can do about it."

"Oh, a story! I love stories. I've heard a lot here in the garden. But uh... don't stories usually have princes and knights and stuff?"

Song walked into the garden to find Melody, saw the bizarre assortment of creatures and people, and ran to find her parents.

Melody looked at the person in the tree. "Can I help you down?"

You can't actually see anyone, but they could be hidden in all the leaves.

Come on, we're trying to be linear here. I apologize, that was premature, maybe you're introducing a new character.

Melody looked up, startled. "Where-- you know what, never mind."

Dr. Who Octopus crawled up out of his impact crater, adjustments twisting maniacally.

Villain? If you make a villain, make sure they have a backstory and a mission. Fadran, you could make a separate villain from Ellis. In Fellowship, for example, I'm going to have Herate, Wyrm, Daolan, good soldiers, bad soldiers, and other people that I come up with along the way.

Okay, so they're friends? Or old enemies who respect each other? I don't know, I just hope this works out.

Melody stared, goggle-eyed, at the octopus.

Sille enters the garden. "By right of conquest, I claim this land!"

Melody, who was climbing the tree, paused and turned around. "Conquest? I didn't see any conquest."

"Hey, I figured out why I can't get out of the tree! I can feel you climbing. I am the tree! Or maybe became the tree at some point, I'm not sure"

"That's inconvenient. Anyway, this is my house, and I don't know why you should get to claim it."

Absolutely! I think it may be a puppet master type character.

A tall man in a green suit walked into the garden, hands in his pockets. “Beautiful work,” he said, admiring a shrub trimmed in the shape of a whale. He called out, “Hello! Is anyone else here!” Then he rounded a corner, and looked up at the tree. “Oh dear...”
