RP Idea

So I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a different kind of RP. This was the kind I always used to do with my friends back in elementary. We didn’t call it RP, we were just playing a game, but in hindsight it was really a RP. It’s very similar to DnD style RP, as in, rather than it being Free Form RP like most other RPs on here, it has a narrator, or a DM.

Our games were usually not character-based, so that’s another big difference from most games here. Everything else here is very very character heavy. This sort of RP isn’t so much focused on making a story or developing characters, it’s more trying to solve the puzzles the Narrator gives you. Much more Setting based rather than Character or Plot based. They can be plot based, but in that case it usually ends up being that the NPCs are more “characters” in the plot than the actual player characters. Instead of writing paragraphs detailing your characters innermost feelings, you’d spend more time narrating your actions and then waiting to see the results. 

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing something like this, and if you guys think it’d work well in this kind of Forum Format. One major downside is that you could only really play when the Narrator was online, but other than that I think it’d work pretty well. If people are interested I’ll think of a scenario (probably start with something basic like “stranded on a desert island”) and edit the topic and we can do it here.

I would give it a go, and I even think it would work if the Narrator wasn't online when you posted, but it wouldn't go as fast. I know some other RP's here (like the Mishmash Inn) has someone kind of 'running' it (in this case Fadran) and he replies when he is on, to all the things he missed. I could imagine this going similar, even if you're not online all the time.

Ok cool! Looks like there’s enough interest to maybe actually do this. I’ll work on setting it all up (thinking of a basic plot and scenario, maybe making some maps, etc) and then we can do this!

 

Update: it’s been a while, and I still want to do this, but AP Calculus is kinda dominating my life right now, so I might not get around to setting this up for a while longer. Just, don’t forget about this, all right? And don’t let me forget about it either.

I want to do this. I used to do it in elementary school with my friend. (We RPed mario and link. 'twas fun and I want to do it again)

I definitely still want to , but life has kinda gotten in the way =P

Its less that it’s taking a while to plan out, and more that I don’t really have enough time to devote to running this. The whole point was for this to be incredibly narrator reliant, but I don’t think I have enough time right now to do that. I’ve thought about making it less narrator reliant, but that was whole point of this, that was the gimmick. I don’t really want to cheapen the idea just so a weaker version of it can happen.

I have decided to finally start working on this. Life has calmed down and I have more free time. 

If anyone would like to help, just mention me here. Not help with running it, I can do all the Narrating myself, but help setting it up. Worldbuilding and stuff.

Things I could use some help on: 
1. Map making
2. Loose magic system ideas
3. Map making
4. Someone to bounce backstory ideas off of
5.Oh, also Map Making. 

If you think you’re good at any of this, and you want to help, feel free to offer your services. I won’t reveal too much about plot or the twists I’m planning, so you should be able to help plan, and also still do the RP itself.

Maybe I should explain how this is going to work a little bit more...

So, imagine a scale of 1–10. 1 would be ultra free-form RP, (think FotT) and 10 would be just a game with no RP at all. DnD would be a 6, Sanderson Elimination would be a 7, this is going to be an 8. Maybe 8.5. I almost put it in the Forum Games category altogether. The goal was to make this as different from a traditional RP as possible. Trying to make a RP-less RP. Y’all might not even have characters. Still deciding on that.
