"...even though JKR is who she is?" feels unnecessarily harsh.

I do think she has the potential to change and I certainly wouldn’t call her evil, but I believe that she holds several ideas which are...not good, and that she is at the very least misinformed about some things - and that this needs to be taken note of and stopped before more hate is spread. This video explains my opinion very well, I think, without being hateful on either side.

It touches on free speech and agrees with Silva, and I just, this video is so good, guys, watch it :P

I'd watch the whole thing but this one post isn't worth an hour of my time,

A note that this is my thoughts, and I have no idea where this essay came from I have only heard of the tweet

And from that I don't see why people are upset, all she said was that there is a male and female and you shouldn't be fired for acknowledging it.

As for HP, well I like the main part of it, logical wonder is great. However the plot is like Swiss cheese, and the missteps are everywhere.

Sorry to derail this thread, everyone, I’d be happy to move to a PM or somewhere if you’re also willing?

But the short of it is that that tweet was misinformation; the woman (I forgot her name, sorry) who had her work contract not be renewed (not exactly the same thing as firing) had that happen because she was creating a hostile environment in the workplace, not because of her beliefs. People can believe whatever they want, but when they start being rude to other people and violating their rights, people naturally aren’t going to want to spend time with them. She also took it to court and tried to get the judge to agree that her lack of belief was protected by law. The preexisting laws and rules said that it wasn’t for various reasons.

Um, are you making an argument based on wording?

...no? I’m relaying what happened? The wording happened to be relevant to the case.

Does anyone have Marauders headcanons? I’ll be honest, I sometimes forget they exist, but I love them anyway

I mainly read fic about Marauders and have no idea what the canon about them is.

If I remember correctly, she said (or implied) that trans people were wrong.

I keep seeing this around and, while I haven't done the research myself, according to hearsay Rowling is is very transphobic. A lot of tweets or remarks from her keep coming up in my Tumblr feed. I'll post some links if I can ever dredge them up.

Ok, so Ene, I'm going to assume you're a good person that believes that you shouldn't kill innocent people.

Right?

I'm also going to assume that you feel you should be able to say that.

So what makes your lack of belief in moral indiscriminately killing, overrule their lack of belief in the ability to change sex through force of will?

I don't know what your referring to exactly(as stated above I only know a little about what she actually said)

I do indeed believe both of those things. However, I’m confused as to what you’re trying to say in the second paragraph; who said any of my beliefs or lack thereof overruled any of hers? I’m not having a moral debate with her (though I certainly disagree with her morals), I was summarizing the events around her going to court. I’ll see if I can find you the time stamp for when the video starts talking about her, and I know they have another one that’s specifically about that tweet.

Even if I was having a moral debate, I’ve never said that she doesn’t have the right to believe whatever she wishes. I do think that she doesn’t have the right to violate the rights of others, nor the law, and that her job has the right to dismiss her for violating those things.

First off, @Frustration, I get the feeling you're having some strong emotions on this, which is fair, it's a loaded topic. But maybe take a sec to cool off.

I think you're right, and I think most if not all people here agree with you in general, we're just disagreeing on how much we're supposed to let that matter to us about Rowling and her art. I think she needs to stop because her place as a famous author gives her a lot of clout and attention that I don't think someone as discriminatory should get, but at the same time we can't really stop her from posting her opinion.

Also I just realized I never posted here so I need to do the customary things :)

Ravenclaw but I sneak into the Slytherin dorms on occasion.

I've been told it's either a jackrabbit or a parrot. I'll take parrot.

Birch, 10 inches, Phoenix feather, somewhat flexible

Noted. I do have some rather strong feelings, and I find it rather annoying that most of my basic ideology of life is considered taboo, and I feel like I can't speak my mind.

Anyway I have to disagree that public figures should be held to a different standard, just because you're famous shouldn't add extra responsibility to you, nor exempt you from the rules everyone else has to follow. (Looking at you Bill Clinton!)

I agree on every level, but don't take it out Ene.

@Frustration

I agree with you about the you shouldn't be fired stuff, but since this is the first time I have heard of it, I don't think that that is what people are angry about. Most of the controversy is because Rowling is against trans people (This is not the way I wanted to phrase it.)

I agree with this, but you can't actually practice it. If someone normal, has beliefs which people around them consider wrong, they will call you out on that stuff. Similarily, for celebrities, everyone who hears will tell them that they are wrong, or boycott them, or etc.

My point about the responsibility is that because she's famous, people will listen to her. If Brandon came out tomorrow with some kind of political stance,  like say supporting BLM or a specific feminist organizations or such, while we all wouldn't follow him blindly, that kind of announcement would give that organization a lot of publicity, and Sharders that don't have an entrenched political belief might be persuaded along that specific view.

While true I think it's the fault of people who haven't settled yet.

You can't blame the thirteen year olds enjoying their fantasy books for not having good political skills. I still don't know which party I identify with and I'm supposed to vote this year

By that time I was smart enough not to make decisions just because someone told me.

And a word of advice, don't vote by party, vote by issue.

Find who you most agree with and vote for them, don't get into the 'red until we're dead', or 'blue no matter who' cults.

From what little knowledge I have about the American politics, I don't think there is there any difference apart from red/blue between the parties?

Also, even if Brandon can influence people due to his fame, this doesn't mean he must always watch he wants to say. He should say what he thinks is right.

More than there should be, we're very divided right now.

This is getting into a whole separate issue that's no longer about Harry Potter. Want to take it somewhere else?

You are correct, time for my logic to break the series,

If goblin made objects are indestructible, then all Voldemort had to do to win is make a gallion a Horcrux.
