Yess tru, tru. If you look on Google the earlier spelling in French was "coronel" so I can see "kernel" a tiny bit better from that but who's the genius who decided the R should be swapped for an L? English be mad confuzzling sometimes

R and L are actually more similar than most people think, at least when it comes to pronunciation. Here's a 3 minute video by Tom Scott on a similar topic. His Language Files videos are pretty good.

It wasn’t announced or anything, but using the internet wayback machine we can see that very recently the Oxford Dictionary on their website changed the word “bigot” from something like “someone who is intolerant of other peoples opinions” to “someone who is unreasonably or obstinately attached to a belief.” And many feel that’s targeting Christians, among others, because to them religion is unreasonable and people who believe in such things are stubborn.

As someone who doesn't consider religion to be unreasonable, really? I agree that the new definition is not quite as good of a match for how I use the term, but Oxford has to describe how a planet's worth of people are using a particular word. For that matter, I'd probably change the old definition myself if given the chance. Language is fuzzy, and I can't help but feel that you're reaching a little

I agree with you, but (personally) I find it hard to believe personally when the moment that ACB uses the term ‘sexual preference’ that the Webster’s dictionary adds ‘offensive’ to the definition of it.

I’m not necessarily saying that the change of definition was specifically targeted at Christians, but it could easily include them. I find it easy to believe why people would see a Christian still holding on to a belief against gay marriage to be obstinate, when, really, it just plain comes down to religious beliefs, which mean nothing in arguments and logic. Therefore, unreasonable.

And to anyone reading this, it’s just my opinion and I’m just trying to explain why I personally believe the dictionaries are biased, and I do not want to start an argument arguing over this, or gay marriage, or the offensiveness of ‘sexual preference’, or ACB. I very much dislike political arguments.

Why not say hee hee, then? Hee hee is in the dictionary.

Because, for me at least, hee hee is not the sound I make when I chuckle. Hehe is.

Hee hee sounds like a little schoolgirl being chased by her crush on the playground.

You're not wrong.

I disagree with that statement. However, I'm tired and can't think of a good rebuttal, so I'm just not going to try.

Huh that's actually kinda interesting. Woulda never guessed they are made with the same movement. Oh, I guess I also have a speech impediment now who knew :P That's super interesting actually how the way people make their r has changed over time for so many people now they are like "well, guess it's just another way to say it instead." I wonder what causes that to change.

Still though, while they are similar in how you pronounce it, I think at least spelling wise and in the word they are pronounced quite differently it seems odd to swap.

Understandable, I will pretend to respond to your rebuttal with a further explanation I  am too tired to explain.

Good, we understand each other then.

I guess we’ll find out. He did say he knew what it was going to be yesterday.

I put out a RoW spoilers theory.

My father was originally from New York but moved away before having me and so I was born and raised in Ohio. Do you know what you get when you're an Ohioan raised by someone with a New York accent? In my case, a lisp and funny sounding R's.

Sounds unique, but it also sounds kind of fun. You can sound like you're not from anywhere. :)

Ha! Not anymore. Years of speech therapy have done wonders. But I can still bust out a killer NY accent when I want to and my Bostonian isn't too shabby, either. B)

Nice, that's great! I don't know if I have an accent. I probably do, living in Utah.
