Hello, disasters. I have a dilemma that I would like some help with. In eight days, my mom is going to an appointment with a doctor to talk about HRT, and it's possible that by the end of it I will have a proscription. However, as of right now, my mom is not completely sure about this (I am, though). I do believe that the doctor would argue in favor of starting estrogen, but I'm not sure she would convince my mom on her own.

One of her main concerns is fertility, and while I do not wish to have kids, and I've stated that if I did want kids, I would adopt them, she still seems concerned that my mind could change at some point.

The other concern she has is potential changes in the way I feel about sexuality, which I would be fine with, and would even welcome.

So I was wondering if any of you had any idea about anything I could tell her to sway her mind?

(She's not transphobic but storms she can be close-minded sometimes. I'll update you if anything changes, or if you have any questions.)

First off *hugs* second does she think the HRT/estrogen will make you not want kids? Also is there like a particular reason she’s concerned with your sexuality bc you could try to make sure she knows that your totally okay with your sexuality and it’s not gonna change bc you start HRT third and final thing *another hug* and I hope you get approved for it and your mom understands good luckkk

For the first point, no, I already don't want kids, the concern she has is that going on hormones can make you infertile, and that I could later change my mind about wanting kids.

For the second, it's a little more complicated. It actually is possible that HRT can change ones sexuality, not necessarily in who you like, but usually how you like them (it's complicated I guess), but the argument I'm trying to make is that I wouldn't care if that happened, and would be fine with any changes that happen.

For the third: Thank you so muchhhh.

Unfamiliar with the details, what is the likelihood of the hormones causing infertility?

Have you tried making that argument? (Not meaning to insult, just sometimes people don't catch the obvious arguments) Like could demonstrating that you are fully aware of the possible consequences and accept them help your case?

Also, *hugs* luck regardless

ohhh I think I get it she’s just not understanding that like while those things matter to you it’s more important to you that you get this gender affirming treatment? Idk in this case I would try to make it clear to her that those things are secondary priorities and that in case you still do want children you can adopt. (Also I rly appreciate the details on all that I have been considering looking into the side affects of HRT as well)

Eeee thanks for all the help everyone! I'll talk more when it's not so late, but I have part of an idea on how to refute her concerns.

I think communicating just how important it is to me would be a good idea, but I'm not quite sure how to do that, so let me know if you have ideas.

Who???

It was the court case legalizing gay/lesbian marriage in the US

And an anti-LGBTQ+ woman (stronger words than just "woman' needed) just requested that the Supreme Court review the case and overturn it on the grounds of religious freedom

And considering who the court justices are right now and the administration

It doesn't look great

I mean...no, but the case doesn't even fall under religious freedom at all. The whole thing is so dumb

I don't think we're supposed to talk about politics here but just to make sure y'all are informed on exactly what could happen, I'll explain a little stuff. If this is overturned, gay marriage will still be legal in all states except: Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Ohio, and Michigan

Does that still suck? Of course, it's horrible. But, not everyone knows the exact details, so just wanted to clear up the details.

Either way
I have the right to get married if I want to, so does Kansas, so does everyone in the South
