I'm here all night folks.

*Grumbles under breath*

I've played the piano for about five years. Am I any good? Debatable.

13th note???

Oh so there’s a possibility that you can get 13 notes. You could have a 14th if a note or put all the notes into 13 tet instead of 12 tet, which is really weird, but there are songs made in it that people have created. 12tone on YouTube has a great explaination.

Probably a common thing but I feel the need to ask. Have you noticed how when you're only messing around, maybe playing short, simple songs, you can do it for ages, but if you play a longer song, one you find difficult, at the end you're really tired? It's a strangely amazing feeling.

Yes! You can literally mess around for hours but when you do a long song you are suddenly drained? Anyone else?

It’s your brain going “I don’t wanna. Do the fiddle fingers. Not the other thing” and it’s hard to resist when you really need to practice.

I see it as doing something that requires actual effort vs something that doesn't. You're so focused in so many things at once when you play something difficult. I've always been somewhat skeptical about the idea of mental effort tiring you physically, but with this I'm willing to believe it.

Yes, I have also been wanting to do piano for a while now, and I just got my keyboard, and I will start lessons in a few weeks. Are you doing lessons anytime soon? @McWafy

No. High school is pretty overwhelming. but I am trying to. ^_^

Me! I know that feeling! It's like a mix of exhaustion and accomplishment.

Rise from the ashes so I can vent. I was practicing a song after months of procrastination. First lap goes alright, full of mistakes but I slowly get used to this again. Second lap though, I get through the intro when suddenly I forget what goes next. Each subsequent try I get less notes right before my fingers literally don't know what to do.

I figured people here know what this is like. It's so storming frustrating.

Yes, this is very annoying. I took a break from a pretty complicated piece over the summer and now when I am practicing it I only seem to know it by muscle memory. One second it sounds good and then I totally forget what's next and I have to start at a previous part because the only way I know it is through muscle memory.

WAIT THIS IS A THING?!

Anyway I took lessons for about a decade and I’ve been working on playing by ear in my own time since college started…. So I’d say about 13 years of experience? Give or take a year? Wouldn’t trade this skill for the world.
