Jek sighs. "Why do you care so much about rescuing Herate? You've known me longer than her, and Vapor even longer. And yet you rescue her the instant she is in danger, while leaving Vapor in the hands of the goddess of death, saying, 'oh, she'll be fine.' What is up with that? Is Vapor not important enough to you? Why can't you rescue her?"

Internally I sigh and suppress the raging beast that wants to strike Jek down. I turn to him. "You are asking the wrong questions. This is not about caring about Herate more or Vapor being less important. We could storm the gates of Rish's mindscape and very possibly be wiped out in an instant. Your love for her is both commendable and noble. However, right now we need a plan. This land can be saved right now. The Fox can be dealt with immediately. The longer that we wait increases Rish's chances of giving us an opening. If she underestimates us our odds improve immeasurably. She is not omniscient despite what she pretends. Don't throw your life away. If you want to save her. Let Rish make a mistake. This Fox could make the difference. It is a piece that she won't expect."

"The ones who attacked died because they were weak. You aren't. You have a chance at surviving, so long as you don't let it whittle," slash "you," slash "down."

Herate fended off the attacks with her claws. "It sure sounds like you think I should be on the front lines. If that's really what you want, I'm all right with it."

"Nath, don't..." Fadran closed his eyes. "Jek... there isn't anything I can say here. I don't have any excuses to make. You're right."

"Then you need to be attacking."

Once more, Psyder threw a knife at Herate.

Herate spun it and flung it back at him without touching it.

She caught it with telekinesis and grabbed it out of the air. "Here, you want something else back in exchange?" She tossed a splinter of soulstone into the air and held it there for a bit.. She'd gotten it out of her pocket while Psyder hadn't been looking.

Must be one of his powers - shadow travel, was it? Herate sighed and attacked with her claws.

Psyder dodged out of the way, letting the claws rake his face as he did so. He jumped upwards, scaling the wall in a single fluid motion.

Herate followed, but misjudged her strength and went over the tower, landing on the hill. She pursed her lips and jumped back the other way, where she landed on a different tower.
