@Condensation, was Herate Wyrn's daughter? I feel like I can recall something to that effect...

What is the command structure of the resistance?  Can I RP a member?

Quote

Yes. Shh! :)

Um, yeah! Okay, so Herate was the founding member, Daolan has army experience so he's the general(because I want him to be), and I've got some random soldiers. Nothing in between, if you'd like to take one or more.

Hm. How big is the resistance? That is to say, how many officer ranks are needed?

Also, how much of a plan do you have for the plot?

Here, I'll PM you.

Everyone, it's finally ready! Only three of these apply to you, but the rest are pretty cool. At least, that's what I think.

Jek goes through the portal.  Jek cautiously steps through the portal, looking around warily.

Herate is so excited she can barely hold herself back. "Okay, everyone follow me. There's a path through the forest right over... there!" She points southwest.

"Alright, then." Fadran follows her, smiling.

No one wants to miss this. *devious smile* I'm excited. Should I summon everyone so they can go through the portal and follow me, or should I just assume that they're doing so?

She speeds up slightly, then checks herself and looks behind to make sure everyone is following her.

"I believe that our friends are on the move. We should follow them. Hold on tight." Again the winds obey me and lifts us inches above the ground. My strength drops dangerously, but I hold on tight for her. They carry us gently after Herate and Fadran.

Fadran is, but he has to jog.

As they enter the wood, Herate breathes in deeply and savors the scent of pine. She leads them through the forest, following barely noticeable signs.

Deor yawns, leaning on his spear. Nothing interesting had happened in days. Days? Weeks? Months? He wasn't any good at telling time.

"When's the lady general coming back?" Deor asks aloud to nobody in particular. At least he'd have something to gossip about if she and Daolan were still doing their kissy thing.

Something in the forest moved. Deor jumped grabbing his spear and pointing it at the forest, before realizing that he was holding it backwards and flipping it around. "Who goes there?"

Herate stepped out of the shadows and smiled at the soldier. "Me."

Deor stared for a second, then jumped to attention. "Sir yes--Herate... Ma'am! General, sir... General, ma'am! Good general--good day, sir MA'AM." He cleared his throat. "Welcome, general. Should I alert Daolan? Or, just... I'll just..." He bowed, embarrased, then opened up the gates for Herate.

"Thank you."

As she walked into the encampment, Herate looked around fondly. The camp had grown while she was gone, though not by much. A smaller crowd of soldiers than she had expected began to gather around them, whispering.

"She's back,"

"-thought she was dead,"

"She's returned,"

"-back from the dead-"

"-captured-"

"The Lady General--"

She heard the last one the most, and her heart began to pound. "Will one of you go get the general?" she asked, voice beginning to shake.

Several soldiers turned around and ran back through the crowd. Herate turned and paced anxiously.

Daolan ran his hands through his hair again, looking away from the report he was reading. Whoever knew that running an army took so much paper? he pondered. It was a stupid question, of course. People had been thinking that since there had been armies to run and paper to run them with. His thoughts drifted yet again, and he tried to force himself to continue reading. It didn't work.

It wasn't that he was usually like this, in fact it was usually the opposite, but Herate had been on his mind a lot lately. He had been getting this weird feeling, like he could feel her getting closer. That was silly, though. If Herate were here, she would scold him for 'letting his imagination run wild again'. He could almost see her now, frowning playfully as she went on about whatever was on her mind right then. He shook his head, trying to rid himself of these thoughts, and turned back to his report reluctantly.

Footsteps pounded outside his tent, and he stood, fearing the worst. What else could bring a messenger so quickly? Three soldiers burst into the command tent, panting.

"General!" said one.

"What is it?" asked Daolan, off-put by the knowing, excited look on the soldiers' faces.

"Sir, there's someone here to see you. It's urgent!" said the second soldier.

"Who? How urgent?" asked Daolan, rounding his desk to stand before the soldiers.

"Very urgent, sir. You need to come now," replied the first soldier.

"They're on the west side of camp, sir, they're waiting for you there!" added the third.

Daolan motioned to the doorway. "Well? Show me!" Then he followed the soldiers as they went back through the door and began running toward the west path into the camp.

The crowd parted, and Herate saw a familiar face. One she had never dared to hope she would see again. He looked worn, his hair and uniform out of place and messy.

"Daolan..." she breathed, mouth curving upward. They stood there for a split second, Daolan's mouth opening wide with surprise, then broke and rushed to each other, Daolan enfolding her in his arms. He pulled back and held her for a moment at arms length, examining her and grinning openly, then drew her closer, kissing her squarely on the mouth. She sighed and melted into him, remembering how good it felt to be with him.

After a long moment, Herate took a small step backward, reluctantly breaking the kiss. "Herate," said Daolan, his eyes roving her face. His deep voice gave her chills, just like the first time they met. "Herate."

Herate smiled, tears welling in her eyes. "It's so good to be back," she said.

"Hey!" called a familiar voice from further inside the camp. "Herate's back!"

A youthful solider with unruly blond hair strode up in a series of bounding steps, a wide grin on his face.

"We were beginning to get worried!" he added, seeming completely oblivious to the moment happening between Herate and Daolan. "You've been gone forever."

"Yes, I know! Oh, Daolan. You need to see something that I got from Wyrn's office."

"Wyrn's office? You were supposed to be checking the tower cells!"

"I know, but I went up the wrong stairway and ended up in his office. You need to see it, it's in Hareon's backpack."

"Okay." Catching sight of the people behind Herate, Daolan steps to the side. "Who are these people?"

Fadran cleared his throat. "Hi! I'm Fadran! We're Herate's friends. I hear you're running a revolution?"

"Wyrn saw me and I somehow got transported to this weird universe, where I met these guys and eventually made it back here."

"Yes, we're running a revolution. It might not last very long, though. While you were gone, most of the others decided to attack the castle without you or my direction. They haven't returned yet and I fear the worst."

"I can help with that. I've had more than a little experience with leading an army."
