But as she spoke, she knew she didn't believe it. It made sense, that was why he had hurt her, that was why... oh storms it all made sense. No, she loved her brother, didn't she? "It, it couldn't be!" She insisted. She didn't want it to be true, it couldn't be true! Circestran recoils for moment as Fox answers angrily. Her tears return. She stands back unsure of what to do. My face blanches. I close my eyes and take a steadying breath, but tremors shake me. Discomfort and pain flow freely through my body. "I can't be sure daughter, but I believe it to be true. When I first met you, you were running from pain. Someone had hurt you. You distrusted us all, because we had not given you a reason to trust us. I saw that pain in you. It had made you hard, but it also broke you. I believe that he was what you were running from." I cannot stop my trembling.

Suddenly a hundred emotions struck her as violently as a lightning strike. Horror, grief, anger, hatred... love... fear.... Fox looked up from the water, her heart taken captive by an irrational terror, which became overwhelmingly evident on her face. She was so afraid. Why was she so afraid? Why did her brother seem so scary all of the sudden? Panic shot through Fox's body like pure adrenaline. She realized she was trembling like a leaf. No. She wouldn't be afraid. She wouldn't let herself be so weak. Fox set her jaw and began twirling one of her knives between her fingers, but it clattered to the ground. Fox stared at her hand. It was shaking. She couldn't stop it. She couldn't control it. Fox wanted to scream, but refrained, and took in a shaky breath.

"Stop acting like a two-year-old." I am a sword, and swords aren't very intelligent. "You're an exception for reasons we both know." Fine. He looked like a regular sword again. Fear which for so long was a foreign emotion floods my flesh. My bones are saturated. I can feel so may emotions. Some of them spill over our connection while yet others radiate off of her. I can smell the horror flow from her. The sound of the knife hitting the deck rings loudly in my ears. A portal of darkness swallows me. There is something unnatural which grabs at my soul threatening to obliterate it. Weakness saps me dry. However, I am not for myself anymore. I stand with great difficulty. My knees buckle as I stand in front of my daughter. For her I will be strong. With a supreme force of will I force my body to still. I reach out and take hold of her hands ignoring my own discomfort. I gently squeeze her hands. "He cannot hurt you anymore. Fox, look at me please. You are safe now. I love you my daughter. You are safe now." Circestran kneels beside Nath and places her ghostly hands above his. 1

Inspecting Velles closer, he noticed that his arm seemed to be made out of metal, but decided not to ask. Instead, he went back to the lab and started inspecting the equipment and pilfering supplies.
Spren of Kindness she/her Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Martin finally speaks, after spending the entire trip thus far silent. He's standing near the door, and has an expression of extreme distrust at the sight of the sword. "I don't know what's going on either, ...Wrenden, was it? And Velles?" Quote I can't believe I missed five pages. Also, I should probably bring Kindness back over here, no?

Herate decided to stay back on the boat with Fox and Nath in case they needed her, she's been standing guard right next to the boat. Don't worry, she can't hear any of what's happening. She's just close enough that she'll hear if something bad happens. Good thing too, because she would totally (at least verbally) attack Fadran. The guilty take the truth to be hard, right? Woo hoo, soon we'll be on Sel!!! Eeee!!!!! Hiiri had been following behind, invisible, but now she reappeared. They'd probably need to see her if something bad happened, and bad things were apparently fairly common with this group.

Condensation she/her Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Hiiri raised her eyebrows. That was new. Had he really not seen her when she walked up to them before they got on the boat?(hint hint)

The fear fluttered around in her stomach beyond that of mere butterflies, it was more like swarms of vultures sweeping down to devour her innards. It was overtaking her, she hated this so much, this raw emotion that she couldn't control. She wanted it to stop, anything for it to stop. Fox's eyes were distant, and when her father took her hands, she did not feel it immediately, it was as if she were experiencing her senses from through a door. She feebly raised her eyes to her father's. Fox was being so fickle, she was being so transparent, she was being so weak. She was looking weak in front of her father. Yet... his love for her was so evident. Father loved her even though she was weak and even though she was scared. Why? How? She did not have the strength to squeeze his hands back with her trembling fingers, but she did savor the warmth that radiated from his touch. He had said that she was safe now. That was a lie. That was always the lie. "I-I-I'll never be safe." Fox had meant for that to be said steadily, but it came out in a stuttered whisper, barely discernible from the soft breeze.

Breath barely escapes and enters as I gaze into her eyes. The fear within them is undeniable and it lances my body. Calm forms within from a place that I don't recognize. It chains the fires that burn me from within and teaches the lessons of a hundred lifetimes. Its words are uncompromising lashes that strike me over and over again branding their message into my tender flesh. How often had I espoused such a message. Through the threats of death herself I had spoken such words as I now must. For just a moment primordial power races through me. Existence sings as it has not done for so long. I can almost see Circestran standing before me. My love remains, but a strength beyond that enters my eyes. She does not squeeze my hand back, but she does not have to. A decision rises to encompass the whole of my being. I give love and strength even though I have little enough to give. Silence builds after I hear her denial. I refuse to accept it. Even if she would repeat it for ages, it would not be true. "I am a fool my daughter. I have spoken and forgotten. Once I told you that words were a cheap thing and I chose to act. Now I will do so again. Ancient gods have at times failed me, hear my vow." I look straight into Fox's eyes. My gaze filled with all that I can muster. "I swear by the ancient gods that so long as I draw breath you Fox, my daughter, will be safe from harm." The air glows slightly and then all is at it was. "If Circestran were here she would have loved you as I do." This last portion is more whisper than clear statement.
